problem with attr()
I got this wired behaviour of the attr() function using R-1.6.1 on both linux redhat 7.3 (i386) and Solaris 8 (Sparc): > tmp <- list(id=1) > > attr(tmp,"n.ch") <- 2 > attr(tmp,"n") <- 1 > tmp $id [1] 1 attr(,"n.ch") [1] 2 attr(,"n") [1] 1 > > attributes(tmp) $names [1] "id" $n.ch [1] 2 $n [1] 1 >

attaching data.frame/list within a function
I'm trying to find a good way of attaching a list within a function such that the attached variables (the list's members) precede the global environment (.GlobalEnv) in the search list. Here is a non-working example using attach(), which hopefully explains better what I'm trying to do: > foo <- function(x=0, input=list(a=10)) { + attach(input) + on.exit(detach(input)) +

make fails with Sun Forte compiler (PR#6815)
Full_Name: rodney sparapani Version: 1.9.0 OS: Solaris 9 Submission from: (NULL) (141.106.120.97) I'm following the instructions for the Sun Forte compiler. I had success with 1.8.1 so I think the compiler settings are correct (config.site): CC="cc -xarch=v8plusa" CFLAGS="-xO5 -xlibmil -dalign" F77="f95 -xarch=v8plusa" FFLAGS="-xO5

Late Make Problem with Readline (PR#1673)
Full_Name: Jeremy Fox Version: 1.5.0 OS: Solaris 8, 64 bit Submission from: (NULL) (171.64.232.63) I am compiling R under Solaris and the compilation stops at this point. The problem only happens when I link in readline. The R binary is actually compiled and readlne works. The main problem with the compiled binary (other than that all the supporting files were not correctly installed) is that

R not giving memory back to system?
This might be because I didn't get it right, but; I thought R would release memory back to the system as (big) objects get removed? core dump on 64-bit Solaris (PR#990)
Using the 64-bit Solaris compilers make check dumps core in La_rs at 73 F77_CALL(dsyev)(jobv, uplo, &n, rx, &n, rvalues, work, &lwork, &info); I can't reproduce it easily, but example(eigen) occasionally stops with Error: abs(sm - V %*% diag(lam) %*% t(V)) < 60 * Meps is not TRUE which might be connected. The tiny rounding errors in example(eigen) aren't

'pausing' in R
I have this 'odd' problem; I need to let R pause, for a given time, before starting next iteration in a loop. I'm using the following to do this task, but feel a little bit guilty because I'm using as much CPU time as I can get while pausing: while(keepGoing) { t.end <- proc.time()[3] + 5 ## the time this loop should end at [block of R commands] while(proc.time()[3]

core dump during make check when building 64-bit R on Solaris 8/9
Hi, I am building a 64-bit R 2.0.1 on Solaris 9. The compiler is Sun Studio 8. Make was successful but I have a core dump during a make check. By the way, this problem also happens on my Solaris 8 machine though I did not get a core dump. I do not have 64-bit versions of the readline, tcl/tk, libncurses, etc libraries so these caused configure not to use them with ELFCLASS32 errors. I use

regression constraints (again)
Im trying to do regressions with constraints that the weights are all >=0 and sum(weights) = 1. I've read the archive and have set the problem up with solve.QP and just the non-negativity constraints along the lines of: y as the data vector X as the design matrix D <- t(X) %*% X d <- t(t(y) %*% X) A <- diag(ncol(X)) b <- rep(0,ncol(X)) fit <-

Matrix: how to re-use the symbolic Cholesky factorization?
I have been playing around with sparse matrices in the Matrix package, in particularly with the Cholesky factorization of matrices of class dsCMatrix. And BTW, what a fantastic package. My problem is that I have to carry out repeated Cholesky factorization of a spares symmetric matrices, say Q_1, Q_2, ...,Q_n, where the Q's have the same non-zero pattern. I know in this case one does

core dump during make check when building 64-bit R on Solaris8/9
Hi, After reading some of the posting in this list, I came across this posting from: From: Peter Dalgaard <p.dalgaard_at_biostat.ku.dk> Date: Fri 29 Oct 2004 - 08:02:40 EST Replying to Re: [R] Errors during make check He described a problem similar to mine, that build 64-bit R (I am building R version 2.0.1) with sunperf library gives a core dump during make check. So I configured my
