Segmentation fault on large index
I''m getting a segmentation fault on a large index (15GB). I''m running ferret 0.11.4 on OpenSuSE 10.2 with ruby 1.8.6. The segmentation fault appeared after I optimized the index, see further below for the error message I got before that. Ferret works perfectly on other (smaller) indexes. Is this a known issue, and if so, is there a workaround? --------------------- after

terribly naive question
Dear R-Representative: I am very new to R and I have to admit that I am not the cleverest of users. So, please bear with me. I have installed R on my Mac OS 8.6. I am interested in eventually using the packages -- many useful ones have been downloaded with the basic R software. I have looked through some of the manuals, however, I have not yet found how to access the commands in these packages.

Hello, I have a dataframe of say 20 lines with one line per individual. help on sampling from the truncated normal/gamma distribution on the far end (probability is very low)
Hi, guys, I am trying to sample from a truncated normal/gamma distribution. But only the far end of the distribution (where the probability is very low) is left. e.g. mu = - 4; sigma = 0.1; The distribution is Normal(mu,sigma^2) truncated on [0,+Inf]; How can I get a sample? I tried to use inverse CDF method, but got Inf as answers. Please help me out. Also, pls help me on the similar

Ordering results by something other than relevance
Along with the contents of the documents in my index, I have stored the date they were added. I want to search for keywords in the index but have the results be sorted by their date rather than their relevance to the keywords. How would I do this in ferret? Thanks, Carl

sample a matrix with one element to be 1 from wishart distribution
Hi, I am not sure if this make sense at all. I'd like to sample a matrix, which follows a wishart / inverted wishart distribution. However, the (1,1) element of this matrix should always be equal to 1. How can I handle it in R? Any suggestion is greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot. Sonia [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

return ONLY total_hits without querying from real database
Hey guys, I know I can run search(q).total_hits, but if I try to put :limit=>0 it gives me an error. I don''t want it actually query any of the results, I just want it to tell me how many total_hits I would have if I wanted to search it. How can I do this? -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Reverse sorting
I am getting strange results when I reverse sort a query. I am sorting by date, but it doesn''t seem to be related to dates (I have tried just integers). I also paginate the results. Items in the result set are sometimes duplicated and the not ordered at all. When I try a non-reverse sort I don''t see duplicates and the ordering is correct. Any ideas what is going on? Thanks

Adding entry breaks index
Our ferret 0.10.13 index has been slowly growing on our debian server and has just got up over 14,000 records. Yesterday I randomly noticed that one search I did was suddenly giving whack, unexpected results. I have spent much time trying to track the problem. Tried ferret 0.10.9 - no change. Tried on a windows machine - where it works fine, and doesn''t give weird results (which just
