query on converting survey data from one structure to another
Dear R users,
I am trying to convert a dataset from one format to several rectangular
datasets. A consultant helped design the data entry program for our survey
using Delphi/Pascal and for each household the information is stored in a
file called "EA-HM-HH.TXT" where EA is the enumeration area number, HM is
the homestead number and HH is the household number. Within this file the

SVD Memory Issue
I am trying to perform Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) on a Term Document
Matrix I created using the 'tm' package. Eventually I want to do a Latent
Semantic Analysis (LSA).
There are 5677 documents with 771 terms (the DTM is 771 x 5677). When I try
to do the SVD, it runs out of memory. I am using a 12GB Dual core Machine
with Windows XP and don't think I can increase the memory

DTrace typewriter
G''Day Folks,
I''ve found another use of dtrace, this makes your console keyboard
sound like a typewriter.
http://www.brendangregg.com/DTrace/typewriter-0.70.tar.gz
I''ve only tested it on an UltraSPARC 5 and a Pentium laptop so far, more
to follow.
Ok, sorry, not actually a practical use of DTrace. :)
Enjoy!

Need for speed, the car is going to be left alone
Hello ... I hope you find someone who speaks Spanish.
I am new to linux, I installed Need For Speed Undercover and most wanted, and in both games looks the same, when I enter the game everything is fine except that the key (whether you assign) that makes the car turn left menu does not work, and when in the game is as if oppressed all the time that the car will be left alone.
I have Wine 1.3

Scatterplot color options in CAR package?
Hi All.
I'd like to change the default plotting colors used to construct a
scatterplot with regression line in the CAR package.
So,
scatterplot(y~pred,smooth=FALSE, xlab="X", ylab="Y", lwd=2)
If I change the palette (e.g., palette(ranbow(6)), I can change the color of
the lines and points.
However, the axes and labels remain in black (i.e., the first color in the

flac car stereos
are there any car stereo flac players?
My CD transports are all broken or stolen, and I tend to ride with my
PowerBook attached digitally to my car stereo anyway. Seems like if
I buy anything to replace what I had, it should be a hard drive
player that supports flac, maybe with a removable drive. I remember
hearing about Linux players many years ago ... anybody know whether I
could

"Writing R Extensions": bad example with CAR / CDR as lvalues (PR#11054)
Full_Name: Simon Anders
Version: 2.6.2
OS: Ubuntu Linux
Submission from: (NULL) (86.22.75.91)
This is a rather minor "documentation bug", certainly not at all urgent.
The manual "Writing R extensions" explains in section 5.10 ("Evaluating R
expressions from C") how to use the eval function. Without going into much
details, an example is given how to build up a

vif() from Design and car
Hi,
I've been generating linear models with lm(). I wanted to look at the
VIF's for the coefficient. Using the vif() function from the package
Design, I would get unusually high VIF's.
However using vif() from the car package I get more reasonable values
(ie in line with the quality of the model).
What is the difference between the two vif functions? (I dont have
access to the
