Just out of curiosity, has anyone created wind roses using R?
Thanks.

How to plot Histogram with frequence overlaid by distribution curve
Hi,
I am facing the problem that I want to plot a histogram chart set
freq to true and overlay with normal or weibull or exponential distribution
curve.
The sample code is shown as below:
>samp<-c(-8.2262,-8.2262,-8.2262,-8.20209,-8.09294,-8.07321,-8.07321,
-8.07321,-8.07175,-8.04948,-8.04948,-8.04948,-8.03848,-8.03848,

Transactions and migrations (lots of records)???
Hi all -
I know this must be really easy to do, but I can''t for the life of me
figure it out.
I have about 100,000 rows I need to migrate over into rails using a
migration.
Right now, I select all of them out of the old database and do a series
of:
...
new.col = old.col
...
new.save
...
Problem is each one is it''s own transaction. And it''s slow. I''d

Function completely locks up my computer if the input is too big
Dear r-help,
Somewhere in my innocuous function to rotate an object in Cartesian space
I've created a monster that completely locks up my computer (requires a
hard reset every time). I don't know if this is useful description to
anyone - the mouse still responds, but not the keyboard and not windows
explorer.
The script only does this when the input matrix is large, and so my initial

[PATCH] Transparent cube
Hi,
Recently i have worked on re-writing beryl's transparent cube, and
ported 3d plugin to compiz.
I'm attaching a patchset here that includes the transparent cube
patches (i'll post the 3d plugin when i fix some problems that didn't
happen in beryl).
Patching order: btf-ftb.patch, clip-planes.patch, plugin-events.patch,
cube-paint-order.patch, transparent-cube.patch.

Specifying medoids in PAM?
I am using the PAM algorithm in the CLUSTER library.
When I allow PAM to seed the medoids using the default __build__
algorithm things work
well:
> pam(stats.table, metric="euclidean", stand=TRUE, k=5)
But I have some clusters from a Hierarchical analysis that I would
like to use as seeds for the PAM algorithm. I can't figure what the
mediod argument wants. When I put in the

question about llvm partial unrolling/runtime unrolling
Hi Hal,
I did
opt.exe -S -debug -loop-unroll -unroll-runtime=true -unroll-count=4
csShader.ll
and it prints out:
Args: opt.exe -S -debug -loop-unroll -unroll-runtime=true -unroll-count=4
csShader.ll
Loop Unroll: F[build_cs_5_0] Loop %loop_entry
Loop Size = 82
partially unrolling with count: 1
Thanks,

Calculate median from counts and values
I am tangled with a syntax question. I want to calculate basic statistics
for a large dataset provided in weights and values and I can't figure out
an elegant way to expand the data.
For example here are the counts:

n4 n3 n2 n1 p0 p1 p2 p3 p4
1 0 0 0 1 1 3 16 55 24
2 0 0 0 0 2 8 28 47 15
3 1 17 17 13 4 5 12 24 8
...
and the values:

patch for textspecial and defaultfont in xfig
Hello,
The current xfig device lacks the functionality to set the
textspecial flag and use the defaultfont in xfig. This is necessary
when you want to export to xfig and use interpreted text (e.g., $
\frac{1}{e}$ gets interpreted by latex). The attached patch adds this
functionality.
Why would you like to do this?
- Use math in labels (e.g., name your variables $r_{xy}$, do a

[LLVMdev] Is this a bug with loop unrolling and TargetTransformInfo ?
Hi,
I ran into this issue recently and wanted to know if it was a bug or expected behavior.
In the R600 backend's TargetTransformInfo implementation, we were setting
UnrollingPreferences::Count = UINT_MAX. This was a mistake as we should have been
setting UnrollingPreferences::MaxCount instead. However, as a result of setting
Count to UINT_MAX, this loop would be unrolled 15 times:

Can't Get Lattice Histogram Minor Tick Marks to Work
I'm drawing a paneled histogram using the lattice package. I've succeeded in
adding minor tick marks to the vertical axis, but I can't get the desired
number of minor tick marks between the major tick marks.
I've attached a self-contained program to illustrate the problem.
Thanks for your help,
Don Macnaughton

Bloomberg data import
Dear R Folks,
I know that Enrique Bengoechea ( Credit Suisse ) had posted some code
snippets for importing Bloomberg historical data into R.
I found them to be very useful.
Has anyone succeeded in getting the below items
from Bloomberg to R?
(a) historical economic release data,
(b) tick/intra-day data
(c) bulk data such as Index membership info, etc.
If someone is willing to share their code

Can't Get Lattice Histogram Minor Tick Marks to Work
Thanks Jeff,
I attached a file with the program to my earlier email because the posting guide seemed to imply that non-binary attachments would work. But I see that the file was stripped off.
I installed the program file on a web site, but when I downloaded it, the line breaks were stripped out. So I've included the program below:

NOTE: unstated dependencies in examples
Using R 2.13.1, I am now getting the following NOTE when I run R CMD

package
* checking for unstated dependencies in examples ... NOTE
'library' or 'require' calls not declared from:
gplots sp
Under R 2.12.x, I didn't get these notes.
I have ~ 25 .Rd files in this package, and AFAICS, every example uses
library or require for the
functions used;

Answering the nTh call ...
Curious to know if anyone's created something similar to the following,
if so and you'd care to share an AGI or dialplan, much appreciated.
I will be eventually write a script to answer the nTH call. (if I can't
find it (why reinvent wheels).
Looking to do some testing sending anywhere between 50-200 calls to a
machine. I'd like a Snom/Polycom/whatever to pick up after the nTh
