data grouping and fitting mixed model with lme function
Dear all,
I have data from the following experimental design and trying to fit a mixed model with lme function according to following steps but struggling. Any help is deeply appreciated.
1) Experimental design: I have 40 plants each of which has 4 clones. Each clone planted to one of 4 blocks. Phenotypes were collected from each clone for 3 consecutive years. I have genotypes of plants. I

Drawing dendrogram
Dear all,
I would like to draw a dendrogram and mark some parts/branches (by using "segments") including their labels. If I draw it without specifying the length of x axix, I am able to do that (as in My dendrogram 1 of the following codes). However, if I want to specify the x axix, I am not able to draw marking line (by using "segments") including labels (as in My dendrogram

Bar graph with 2 Y axis
Dear R users,
I need to draw a barplot with 2 Y axis. I have 3 days each of wich having 2 groups (and error bar for each of them). The height of the 3rd day is too tall compared to others. That's why I have to use a second Y axis for that. I am using "barplot2" function of "gplots" library (to be able to add error bars as well). Data and codes currently I am using is

eps file
Dear All,
I need to create eps file which is the required figure format of the journal that I want to submit a paper. I am able to create files in pdf or wmf format but not in eps format. Is there a way to convert pdf or wmf to eps? or alternatively, how can I create an eps file in R?
Any help is deeply appreciated.
Kind Regards

Exporting objects plotted with plot3d() - rgl package
Dear all,
Can anybody tell me how to export a 3d figure made with the plot3d
function? I'm careless about whether it's still interactive or not in
another format, as long I can get it out of R.
Thanks!

memory limitation with Fortran interface
Hi,
I'm using R 7.0 under Linux as a programming interface to Fortran (g77
v0.5.24).
Basically, what I want to do is to call a fortran subroutine of mine
which performs MCMC computations.
Apparently I'm getting into memory management problems.
To track the problem I wrote the following small Fortran subroutine
(saved as test.f) :
subroutine test(n,p)

Create package with Fortran 90 and C code
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

I'm trying to add some Fortran 90 code to an existing package.
When I compile and load the file manually like:
SHELL> R CMD SHLIB file.f90
R> dyn.load("file.so")
I can use the .Fortran() fine. However, when I try to build, install and load
the library I seem to be missing something.
I do a:
SHELL> R CMD build dir

plot() with type="s" and lty=2 (PR#2630)
Full_Name: Jerome Asselin
Version: 1.6.2
OS: RedHat Linux 7.2
Submission from: (NULL) (142.103.173.179)
In the following example, the line type lty=2 does not show properly
across the entire line.
x <- c(seq(0,.5,.001),seq(.6,1,.1))
y <- rep(1,length(x))
plot(x,y,type="s",lty=2)

tapply and names
I have a data frame containing children, with variables 'year' = birth
year, and 'm.id' = mother's id number. Let's assume that all the births of
each mother is represented in the data frame.
Now I want to create a subset of this data frame containing all children,
whose mother's first birth was in the year 1816 or later. This seems to

Error in the inverse of a diagonal matrix?
I?m new to R so maybe this issue has been asked before and I still could not read the complete set of past messages sent to the list.
I found a weird behabiour that I will explain with a simple example. Lets consider the following block of commands:
> x <- diag(c(1,4,10))
> x
[,1] [,2] [,3]
[1,] 1 0 0
[2,] 0 4 0
[3,] 0 0 10

Hi all,
I've got at really basic Q for you all: How do I produce a 3D plot in R?
Like the one in the screenshot on the R-project wab-page.
What is the command?

survreg: fitting different location parameters
Hi R-Help!
My question: I have lifetime/failure data of machines with different
stress levels and i think an weibull/extreme value distribution would
fit this data. So I did:
model1 <- survreg(Surv(lfailure)~stress,data=steel,dist="extreme")
(where lfailure=log(failure))
Now I would like to do a likelihood ratio test to test the hypothesis

installation of packages
Dear All,
Have just installed v2.5.1 on Windows XP. Works fine but I had quite a few
pakages loaded for 2.5.0 (from contributed) and was wondering how I can
get 2.5.1 to recognise them without having to reinstall them all.
Is this possible or do I have to reinstall all the packages again?
I required 2.5.1 for lme4 and matrix.
Many thanks in advance.

I was wondering if someone can help me
interpret the results of running

I run the following and get the

TeX distribution on Windows
I'm looking for a Windows distribution of TeX that works with R, after a
few years' absence from Windows. On Duncan Murdoch's Rtools page fptex is
still recommended, but it turns out that fptex is "defunct" as of May 2005,
see
http://www.metz.supelec.fr/~popineau/xemtex-7.html
So, what is suggested? TUG (tug.org) recommends something called proTeXt,

read.spss: unrecognized record type
When reading an spss file, I get the following message:
Warning message:
../totmorH.sav: Unrecognized record type 7, subtype 13 encountered in system file.
What does it mean? Do I have to worry? The result looks as expected. I do
not have (easy) access to SPSS, so I cannot check exactly that I got what I
should have.
Thanks,

And, I'm using R-2.0.1 on Debian testing (from source).
