Problem with factors in lm() when using Rscript but not GUI
Hello R-help
I am having a curious problem. I am using a batch file to call an R script and am getting an error when performing a lm() fit using factorial data only when running in batch mode (see below). I do not get the error when executing the same code in GUI mode in R 2.10.1. Nor do I get the error when using Rscript version 2.9.2....

[Bridge] two fields are missing in brctl output when using /sys
I've noticed for a while that
# brctl showstp
output is showing 0 for port_no and port_id
It seems that somewhere in 2.6 sysfs land the following items got
printed in hexadecimal, and brctl code was parsing for decimal only
doug:/sys/class/net/eth0/brport# cat port_id
0x8001
doug:/sys/class/net/eth0/brport# cat port_no
0x1
The following patch to bridge-utils (git and 1.2 release) lets

[LLVMdev] Problem in External/SPEC/CFP2000/177.mesa/Makefile ?
Hello folks,
The makefile for 177.mesa says that for a small problem size, it will
get 100 frames. But in the spec sources I have, the test folder only
contains numbers for 10 frames:
$ speccpu2000/benchspec/CFP2000/177.mesa/data $ wc -l test/input/numbers
10 test/input/numbers
Generating 100 frames causes undefined behaviour because the program is
doing unchecked fscanf on that

[PATCH 1/1] lua: Enabling io.read() in Lua.c32 with some restrictions
From: Hung-chi Lihn <hlihn at google.com>
The current Lua.c32 does not enable io.read() due to some missing library
functions. However, this strongly limits the Lua script from getting user
inputs and reading files (even in pxelinux via TFTP).
This patch enables io.read() in Lua.c32 with some restrictions:
1. the io.read("*line") is fully supported.
2. the

Scanning data files line-by-line
Hi all, is there a way to read a data file into R line-by-line, akin
to what fscanf does in C, say?
It seems that "scan" and "read.table" both read the entire data file
in at once, whereas "readLines" allows one to read a file partially,
but doesn't quite read line-by-line either.
I guess what I was hoping to do is something like this:
while( linebyline(

Detecting KLIBC from userspace
Hi
Currently I am trying to get device-mapper and dmraid ported to compile
against klibc. So far there was no real issues, as the only thing they
used was fscanf and feof not available presently in klibc (but easy to
work around).
Other than that there are really no way to easily check for installed
klibc's other than trying to mangle the output of klcc (from adjusted
configure.in):

Odd behavior of plot function
The following code snippet taken from plot.survfit now gives me a surprising result:
tempx <- c(0, 400, 0, 0)
ytemp <- c(.0657, .98, 1, 0)
plot(range(xtemp), range(ytemp), log='y', type='n')
In that the max value for the x axis is now 10. The 0 on the end of ytemp was actually a
mistake and shouldn't be there, if you remove it then the upper limit is sensible.

Winsorizing Multiple Variables
Hi All,
I want to take a matrix (or data frame) and winsorize each variable.
So I can, for example, correlate the winsorized variables.
The code below will winsorize a single vector, but when applied to
several vectors, each ends up sorted independently in ascending order
so that a given observation is no longer on the same row for each
vector.
So I need to winsorize the variable but

loglogistic cumulative distribution used by survreg
Dear all,
What is the cumulative distribution (with parameterization) used within
survreg with respect to the log-logistic distribution?
That is, how are the parameters linked to the survivor function?
Best regards,
Mario

I DL and installed the WINE program on my Ubuntu 7.10 and can see it on the Applications. Selecting 'Configure Wine' brings up the 'grey' screen but nothing I do to it seems to function.
I opened the terminal and typed 'winecfg' and stuff happens like: 'bob at

dovecot-1.2.12 fails to build on Solaris 8 and 10
configure fails with :
configure: error: Unsupported off_t type
I am not too sure what off_t is needed but this is a pretty standard thing.
My configure line :

--prefix=/opt/csw --with-zlib --with-ssl=openssl
--with-storages=mbox,maildir --with-libiconv-prefix=/opt/csw

Custom com32
Hi all
I've written a basic COM32 module that checks (using the DMI example
code) the product and BIOS and if the BIOS is not at the required level,
is supposed to exit and boot using a DOS floppy image to flash the BIOS.
The problem is that I can't work out how to call the DOS floppy image.
Looking at the website, I see "Run Command" AX=0003H via int 22. The
image name will
