Dear All -
I tried to install R-1.3.1 on a Ultrasparc 10 running Solaris 2.7. I have
followed the directions in the INSTALL file exactly, but R refuses to
create the file R.bin. I also had someone else, who is better with UNIX
than I am, try the installation. It didn't create the R.bin file for him,
either. As a result, I cannot run R, even after going through the
installation process.

installing R-1.3.1 on Solaris 2.6
Hi All,
I am trying to install R1.3.1 on solaris 2.6 using the gcc/g77 compiler.
The configure step succeeded, but make failed. The compiler versions I used
are:
gcc version 2.95.2 19991024 (release)
g77 version 2.95.2 19991024 (release)
CC workshop Compilers 5.0 98/12/15 C++ 5.0
I can't use the c++ compiler(v2.95.2), since it failed the configure step. I
can't use f77 either,

MCMC coding problem
Dear All,
I am trying to convert some S-plus code that I have to run MCMC into
R-code. The program works in S-plus, but runs slowly.
I have managed to source the program into R. R recognizes that the program
is there; for example, it will display the code when I type the function
name at the prompt. However, the program will not run. When I try to run
the program, I get the following error

packages with FORTRAN code
Recent sensible changes to the dynload mechanism have made an old
problem resurface: how should we deal with packages which contain
Fortran code and may need to be linked against additional libraries
such as -lf2c?
The current consensus is that extra Fortran libraries maybe needed are
handled via the make variable FLIBS, and that `-lf2c' or `-lg2c' are
added by default if g77 is used.

Compiling on a Red Hat 5.1 system
I'm feeling kinda stupid right now, but I'm actually having problems
compiling R-0.62.3 on a Red Hat 5.1 Linux system.
I'd be happy if someone could point out for me where to look to fix the
problem. I've included the output from the compiling below. Thanks for
any help.

Problems compiling R65.0 (PR#262)
Hi,
I appear to have a slight problem compiling R0.65.0 under Linux
(slackware) using g77. By simply typing configure then make, I obtain
a binary which when "ldd" does not contain the f2c library. I
therefore cannot load any libraries containing fortran code (I obtain
unresolved symbol messages from R.X11 and an unable to load shared
library from dyn.load(file)).
If I change the

segmentation fault with GCC 3.0.2
I have now tested R 1.3.1 compiled with GCC 3.0.2 on Solaris and the example I
previously posted (repeated below) still gives a segmentation fault, as it does
with GCC 3.0.1 but not with 2.95.2. The eigen calculation sometimes needs to be
repeated several times before the segmentation fault occurs. La.eigen does not
cause a problem. (The problem occurred with R-devel too, but I have not tested

be thankful if somebody could help me working that out.

Underscores and Fortran code
This might more properly be filed as a bug report, but ...
I came upon the following problem while trying to dyn.load a library
of Fortran code into R. I'm running RedHat 7.1 on a Pentium III
laptop, with R version 1.3.1 (latest rpm from CRAN) and gcc/g77
version 2.96.
My library has a number of Fortran subroutines that have underscores
in their names for readability. By default g77
