R Packages in Windows
I have installed R version 1 for windows and have installed
the survival5 package in the library folder, but the base package
only seems to partially acknowledge survival5's presence.
How have I screwed up? The diagnostics are as follows...
>library(survival5)
** no warning given.. seems OK **
>help(package=survival5)
**this gives the contents of the package correctly,

unbalanced design
Hi all,
I'm new to R and have the following problem:
I have a 2 factor design (a has 2 levels, b has 3 levels). I have an
object kidney.aov which is an aov(y ~ a*b), and when I ask for
model.tables(kidney.avo, se=T) I get the following message along with
the table of effects:
Design is unbalanced - use se.contrast() for se's
but the design is NOT unbalanced... each fator level

Converting PROC NLMIXED code to NLME
Hi,
I am trying to convert the following NLMIXED code to NLME, but am
running into problems concerning 'Singularity in backsolve'. As I am new
to R/S-Plus, I thought I may be missing something in the NLME code.

reshape help
Dear R users -
I have a list of patient identifiers and diagnoses from inpatient
admissions. I would like to reorganize the list, presently in a long
format to a wide format in reshape, but in the absence of a "time" element,
I am uncertain how to do this - any help greatly appreciated.

A question regarding random effects in 'aov' function
Hi,
I am doing an analysis to see if these is tissue specific effects on the
gene expression data .
Our data were collected from 6 different labs (batch effects). lab 1 has
tissue type 1 and tissue type 2, lab 2 has tissue 3, 4,5,6. The other labs
has one tissue type each. The 'sample' data is as below:

documentation for survival5?
Dear R-Helpers:
What other references are there on the capabilities of the survival5
package other than the help files and the chapter on survival analysis
in every edition of Modern Applied Statistics with S? I'm thinking of
something like "An Introduction to Survival Analysis in R" with worked
examples that might complement or extend the chapter in MASS.
Thanks,

survreg() with frailty
Dear R-users,
I have noticed small discrepencies in the reported estimate of the
variance of the frailty by the print method for survreg() and the
'theta' component included in the object fit:
# Examples in R-2.6.2 for Windows
library(survival) # version 2.34-1 (2008-03-31)
# discrepancy
fit1 <- survreg(Surv(time, status) ~ rx + frailty(litter), rats)

fda modeling
Dear friends - We have 25 rats, 14 of these subjected to partial removal
of kidney tissue, 11 to sham operation, and then followed for 6 weeks.
So far we have data on 26 urine metabolites measured by NMR 7 times
during the observation. I have smoothed the measurements by b.splines in
fda including a roughness penalty, and inspecting the mean curves for
nephrectomized and sham animals indicate

survival5 for windows
I downloaded binary of survival5 for windows95
(also the splines, date).
The function survsum shows up in content, has a help page,
but the function itself is missing.
Can we cut and paste the survsum from survival4 ?

rats in survival package
Dear R-listers,
Does anybody know what is the correct source of "rats" dataset in survival package?
The help gives the following information:
Rat data from survival5
Description:
48 rats were injected with a carcinogen, and then randomized to
either drug or placebo. The number of tumors ranges from 0 to 13;
all rats were censored at 6 months after randomization.

Boxplot, formula interface, and labels.
I have data I'd like to plot using the formula interface to boxplot.
I call boxplot like so:
with(mydata, boxplot(count ~ geno * tissue))
I get a boxplot with x axis labels like "wt.kidney". I would like
to change the '.' to a newline. Where is this separator configured?
Thanks,

methods for interval-censored data
Dear all,
Are there functions or packages in R that can handle interval-censored
data? I have looked in various packages (such as survival5 or event), but
it seems that only right-censored data can be analysed.
More generally, are there methods to analyse both interval-censored
observations and right-censored observations in the same data set?
Thanks in advance.

announce: survival5 bug fix
Anyone using the penalised partial likelihood routines in survival5 should
update their version.
A bug has been fixed in the S package: in coxph() models with penalised
likelihood and strata it was possible in some circumstances to get an
infinite loop or perhaps an incorrect answer.
The new version (2.3) is on cran.r-project.org and will percolate through
CRAN in the next few days.

Extracting approximate Wald test (Chisq) from coxph(..frailty)
Dear List,
How do I extract the approximate Wald test for the
frailty (in the following example 17.89 value)?
What about the P-values, other Chisq, DF, se(coef) and
se2? How can they be extracted?

lattice, add text to xyplot
Hello listers,
Does anybody know how to add text to an xyplot without whipping out
the existing curve?
That's all.
For instance,
Lets say you generate a graph like this
A <- data.frame(x = rnorm(100), y = rnorm(100))
xyplot(y ~ x, data = A)
How would you add 'Hello world'?
I tried 6.02E23 different partial solutions found on the web and
failed. I just need one EXAMPLE that
