statistical help
Hi All, Briefly, I belong to a fisheries research group. At this time I'm working on my PhD and I'm looking for some statistical help. My mathematical and statistical skills are still scarce, I've gathered many different types of data (landings, climate and upwelling indexes, rains, etc) and I wonder about what kind of statistical procedure use with them. I'm a little confused

about s.window in stl
Hi, Is there anybody who could explain a little bit the use of s.window and t.window in STL. If I decompose a series using the default values, I get a very irregular trends, but if I play with the options, I get less rare trends. If anybody can explain me the concepts behind these options I will appreciate a lot. I'm not a mathematician ;-) Thanks in advance Cheers, Antonio Antonio

The Future of R | API to Public Databases
Dear R Users - R is a wonderful software package. CRAN provides a variety of tools to work on your data. But R is not apt to utilize all the public databases in an efficient manner. I observed the most tedious part with R is searching and downloading the data from public databases and putting it into the right format. I could not find a package on CRAN which offers exactly this fundamental

time-series
Dear R helpers I have a daily rainfall dataset of 5 stations, but the time-series are of different lengths. Three stations measured precipitation from 1917 to 2004, one from 1930 to 1979, and other from 1975 to 1998. I'd like to know how to analyse if rainfall is similiar at all stations. Is it possible to compare time-series like these? Best Regards!

Memory exceeding for split
Hi R-users I'm working with a data.frame of 40000 x 10, for which I need to apply the "split" function. The result is very long and cannot be stored in a variable due to memory exceeding. I've tried to send the result directly to a file through sink(filename) function, but the problem still occurs. Does anyone have an idea to solve this issue? > dim(dados) [1] 40000 10

ssd quandry
On a CentOS 6 64bit system, I added a couple prototype SAS SSDs on a HP P411 raid controller (I believe this is a rebranded LSI megaraid with HP firmware) and am trying to format them for best random IO performance with something like postgresql. so, I used the raid command tool to build a raid0 with 2 SAS SSDs # hpacucli ctrl slot=1 logicaldrive 3 show detail Smart Array P410 in Slot 1

The procedure adopted in SAS is as follow, but I'm having difficulty in to implement the contrasts for comparison of all treatments in R. I have already read manuals and other materials about manova in R, but nothing about specific contrasts were found in them,

How can I extract part of the data in a panel dataset?
Taking the Grunfeld data, which is built-in in R, for example, (1)How can I construct a dataset (or dataframe) that consists of the data of all firms in 1951? (2)How can I calculate the average capital in each form over the period 1951-1954? What I can imagine is to categorize the data by firm, and then select the data between 1951 and 1954 for each firm, but how can I do it? Thanks, Miao

list to data frame
Dear R helpers I am trying to convert a list into a data frame but when I try, I get a stack overflow error (Error: protect(): stack overflow).
