Highlight raises Segmentation Fault Error in Ferret 0.10.9 in Windows
Hi Everyone, I am currently in process of upgrading Ferret 0..9.1 to Ferret 0.10.9 with Ruby 1.8.4 in windows platform. I am trying to use search highlight feature on index_searcher subject = index_searcher.highlight("subject:(blah blah)", 0, :field => :content, :pre_tag = "<span

AAF and DRb with highlighting
How would I change this method in order to get highlighting working with DRb? I''ve given up on searching on Google, I''m getting no results that are actually helpful. def self.find_storage_by_contents(query, options = {}) # Get the index that acts_as_ferret created for us index = self.aaf_index.ferret_index results = [] default_options = {:limit => 10,

another issue with highlighting
Hi, I''m encountering another highlighting issue. (about the first one "range search and highlighting", i received no response. I don''t even know if somebody tried to reproduce and/or if it''s normal behavior) about the new issue, an example will be easier for you to reproduce: I''m filling an index with random data, i try to match for "*1*"

Which method to use to get content from index with a_a_f?
Hi everybody, After staring at the a_a_f API for quite sometime now, I decided it''s time to ask... Which method should I use to get content from the index without using highlight? Consider the following controller action: def preview if params[:search].blank? # normal case @text = @myfile. # which method do I use here to get the :text from the index??? else # if we come from

ANN: acts_as_ferret
Hi all This week I have worked with Rails and Ferret to test Ferrets (and Lucenes) capabilities. I decided to make a mixin for ActiveRecord as it seemed the simplest possible solution and I ended up making this into a plugin. For more info on Ferret see: http://ferret.davebalmain.com/trac/ The plugin is functional but could easily be refined. Anyway I want to share it with you. Regard it as a

DRb server crashing
I''m having a problem where the DRb server seems to be disappearing (crashing?) and I don''t know how to track down the cause or work around the problem. Unfortunately I haven''t found a way to reproduce the problem, but it seems to happen fairly often (maybe once a day). Other then that ferret seems to be working well. I can''t seem to find any trace of the

Escaping special characters before highlighting
Hi all. I need to perform some operation on the results of a ferret search before it gets highlighted. Is there a way to do this? This is my code which calls the highlighting inside a Rails View: <%= result.ferret_highlight(@query, :field => :ferret_text, :pre_tag => ''<span class="keyword">'', :post_tag => ''</span>'') %> --

highlighting and range queries
Hi there, Is highlighting for range queries supposed to work ? It doesn''t work here. here is an non-working example: (highlighting works when q="test:2007*") require ''ferret'' include Ferret index = Index::Index.new() #index.field_infos.add_field(:test, :store => :yes, :index => :untokenized) i=1 for a in [ "20070505", "20071230",

:store => :yes doesn''t work in some cases
I''m not really sure if this is a bug, but it makes my search results look a bit strange. I have an acts_as_ferret declaration that looks like: acts_as_ferret :store_class_name => true, :remote => true, :fields => { :ferret_name => { :store => :yes, :boost => 2 }, :ferret_content => { :store => :yes } } I store both fields so that I

lock problems from concurrent processes.
Hi! First, thanks a LOT for ferret. The API and documentation is great. I''m trying to integrate ferret into a RoR app (DamageControl) and have run into a problem with locks. DamageControl consists of two processes that start up and run in parallel. The first one is the webapp (which is just a plain RoR app). The second is a daemon process that runs in the background. The daemon process

Problems with Ferret 0.9.0
Hi, I upgraded from 0.3.2 to 0.9.0, and now my old search code doesn''t work anymore. I get a lot of ArgumentErrors, for example: "query.add_clause(Search::BooleanClause.new(query_parser.parse(term), Search::BooleanClause::Occur::MUST))" raises: ArgumentError (wrong number of arguments (2 for 0)) "index_searcher.search_each(query)" raises: ArgumentError

Effective search when knowing ID
Hi list, I''m new to ferret and I wonder what is the best way to search if I know one fields id and want to search on its content. I have experimented with FilteredQuery but I don''t know if this is the best way. Eg. index = Index::Index.new(:path => ''/tmp/all'') @dbh = Database.instance.connect result = @dbh.exec("SELECT pk_fulltext_id, fulltext_text

Ferret 0.11.4.win32 indexing speed vs Ferret 0.10.9.win32
Firstly, thanks Dave for all your hard work. Ferret Rocks!, I am just testing 0.11.4.win32 and it seems to work just fine, however the index creation phase of my app is perhaps 3x slower under 0.11.4 vs 0.10.9 Details follow: System: windows xp sp2, index on local hard disk, Ruby 1.8.6 Run #1, Ferret 0.10.9 - Reboot - Build index, 35,000 rows added in 297 seconds - Run #2, Ferret 0.11.4 -

undefined method `add'' for Ferret::Search::BooleanQuery
Up to now in my ferret development I have been using simple single-word strings as my search queries. I just now am trying to increase the complexity of my queries. When I was passing a single word with no spaces in my index searches, like so: count = index.search_each(''testing'') do |d, s| ... end everything worked fine. But now when I do something like this: count =

aligning Ferret''s IndexSearcher.search API with Lucene''s
Recently I''ve been revisiting some of my search code. With a greater understanding of how Java Lucene implements its search methods, I realized that one level of abstraction is not present in the Ferret classes/methods. Here are the relevant method signatures: Ferret''s search methods: in Ferret::Index::Index: search(query, options = {}) -> returns a TopDocs

multibyte character corrupt in highlight method
When I apply highlight() method to the search result, multibyte characters are corrupted. The post_tag is located in the middle of last character, so the last character corrupts. Here is my code. query = "SOME_MULTIBYTE_CHARS" searcher.search_each(query) do |doc_id, score| puts searcher.highlight(query, doc_id, :field => :content) end And this is the result. ... bla, bla, bla,
