segfault after page view
I realize this is slightly off-topic, but I''m stumped and I hope someone
else has had the same problem.
When running a rails app using webrick (script/server), I can load any
given page which involves a controller once, and any subsequent page
loads trigger a "Segmentation fault" without any other info.
This problem is very new, and has only started occurring since I last

observe_form without ajax?
This betrays my lack of javascript knowledge, but is it possible to
watch a whole form for changes and activate some javascript when those
changes occur without any remote request?
That is, I want to do exactly what observe_form does, but without the
ajax call actually happening. I realize I could use the form_tag
:onchange parameter, but that seems to be incapable of doing things like

imap internaldate
I think I found a bug in dovecot which I'm not sure where to fix. (I may
even have found a reference to it in an archived list message from Jul
2003.) Here is the situation:
dovecot (dovecot-0.99.10.4) running with an imap server on an mbox
system is queried by a local client program, like Mail.app, and is
told the "Received" date of the message (presumably sent through

Check if user is in right group
What is the best way of checking this?
I have 3 tables:
groups
users
group_members
class GroupMember < ActiveRecord::Base
belongs_to :group
belongs_to :user
validates_uniqueness_of :user_id, :scope => "group_id"
Then I want a method here that checks if a given user is a member of a
given group. What is the right way of doing that?

JOIN conditions
Hi,
how can I get Rails to generate SQL queries with conditions in the JOIN clause?
What I would want is:
SELECT * FROM people p
LEFT OUTER JOIN jobs j (p.job_id = j.id AND j.salary > 9999999)
I tried
People.find(:all, :include => ''jobs'', :conditions => ''jobs.salary > 9999999'')
but that generates
SELECT * FROM people p
LEFT OUTER

I have a photographers app that requires giving access to galleries for
users. in one part, I want to be able to define gallery access for a
user seperate from updating any of the user info. I have this function:

@user = User.find(params[:id])
@user.galleries = Gallery.find(params[:gallery_ids]) if
params[:gallery_ids]
if @user.update_attributes(params[:user])

I have a problem related with the HABTM relationships with checkboxes.
I''ve got a profile and a service model, both related with

The problem is that i can insert new data in the profiles_services

What could be the problem?

Model Madness: habtm vs through
This has me scratching my head:
a Person has many Things
a Person has many Collections
a Collection has many Things
...Things in a Collection are ordered
...Things in a Collection can be related to (created by) any User
...a collection has additional attributes, such as a name etc
I am confused about habtm in rails (especially when using
acts_as_habtm_list) vs. going the :through route.

STI and HABTM
Hey gang,
How does STI work with HABTM?
For instance...let''s say I have the following models
-----
Category < ActiveRecord::Base
Item < ActiveRecord::Base
Product < Item
Deal < Item
-----
Each product or deal can have categories. Would I then setup Item with
has_and_belongs_to_many :categories, then create a table categories_items
??? Is there a better way to do it?
