Alternative to list()
Hi, Suppose I have a dataset with 10 columns, let's call it "foo". Now if I want to extract out only column 2 ~ 8, then I know I can use either: foo[ ,2:8] or fooNew <- list( foo[ ,2:8] ) (Is there any other alternative, just out of curiosity?) But, if I only want, say, column 1, 4 and 7, I tried: fooNew <- list( x = foo[ ,1], y = foo[ ,4], z = foo[ , 7] )

read.table("clipboard")
Hallo Please I have a question regarding read.table. I wonder if there is any possibility to read a content of 'clipboard' directly (let say as a copy from Excel like programs) or if it is always necessary to save a file in an appropropriate format. I use 1.2.0 W version with W95. Thank you very much. Best regards Petr Pikal Precheza a.s. Nabr.Dr.E.Benese 24 tel: 00420 641 25 2257

Problem to interpret wilcox.test
I've got two set of data : 22.45 21.56 20.48 19.59 21.52 = A and 22.15 21.98 20.42 20.58 19.61 = B I perform a wilcox.test on this two set wilcox.test(A, B) and I'd this answer: Wilcoxon rank sum test data: A and B W = 12, p-value = 1 alternative hypothesis: true mu is not equal to 0 Should I interpret that there is no difference between the two sets ? -- Cordialement

sdate<-as.POSIXct(strptime(date,format="%m/%d/%Y %H:%M"))
Newbie here~ I've spent a ton of time on this, but have to admit I am stuck. I've tried various combinations of strptime and the package CHRON, but still can't get there. My simple task is that I want to plot salinity (S1 or S2) on y-axis and time on x-axis, but I want to use a lay-understandable representation of time (not Julian). If I use the following command, I can make a

significance of random effects in poisson lmer
Hi, I am having problems trying to assess the significance of random terms in a generalized linear mixed model using lme4 package. The model describes bird species richness R along roads (offset by log length of road log_length) as a function of fixed effects Shrub (%shrub cover) and Width (width of road), and random effect Site (nested within Site Cluster). >From reading answers to previous

2.1.1: doveadm backup errors
Hello Timo, I'm experimenting with 'doveadm backup' on 2.1.1 (latest hg, full dovecot -n output attached) and haven't managed to get it working. This is what I have done: 1. Create the directory /tmp/backup which is empty 2. Run doveadm -v backup -u testuser at ubuntu-test.localdomain mdbox:/tmp/backup/ Then I see the following errors: doveadm -v backup -u testuser at

Samba performance issues
Hi all We are implementing samba-ldap to act as an nt pdc and are seeing performance problems. We have a 1ghz, 3gb Ram, 36gb box that is running samba-2.2.5 and openldap-2.0.23 under redhat 7.3 with kernel 2.4.18-3. Clients are all Win2k SP3. All the ldap requests are to the localhost interface. The box is acting as the PDC for the domain, and also sharing diskspace and printers. When we get

applying a set of rules to each row
All, I would like to apply a set of rules to each row of the sample data set below. The rule sets are the guidelines for determining an individual's date for retirement eligibility. The rules are found in this document, http://www.opm.gov/feddata/RetirementPaperFinal_v4.pdf. I am only interested in the top two categories for retirement eligibility, the CSRS and FERS plans.
