How to change the type of segments ends?
Hi,
I am trying to plot odds ratios and the corresponding confidence
intervals in horizontal segments. It would be ideal if the confidence
interval segment can be drawn with little vertical bars at both ends. I
have tried very hard to change the type of ends by using 'lend'
arguments, but cannot make it. I even tried 'arrows()', but still
failed. Following is the code I use:

boxplot and xlim confusion?
I have some code as shown below. Basically, I would like three
boxplots to be set next to each other with no ylabels on the two
"inner" plots, and I want the same x axis range on all three. However,
it seems like boxplot does not respect the xlim setting. I've tried
the various ways I thought would work (par, boxplot(...xlim=)) but
none of them seem to work. I then tried plot.window,

complex plots using layout()
Dear r-help,
I am trying to plot several scatter plots with marginal histograms on
one page. Ideally, a page is equally divided into 4 figure regions.
Within each figure region, a scatter plot with marginal histograms will
be plotted.
I followed Dr. Paul Murrell's code released online to successfully plot
the scatter plot with marginal histograms. The code applies "layout()"

windows device transparency issue
I read in a thread in r-help today that the windows device in 2.6 supports
transparency, so I tried an example and had some issues. The density plots
should be filled with transparent color in the following example (similar to
the points), however the color is "fully" transparent. This works in the
Cairo device, but not in the windows device.
Thanks,

asking about contour plot with R
I'm working in Rosario, Argentina, trying to plot some contours.
I found the function "draw.contour" created by James Forester at
R-bloggers. If you take a look at that function you'll see it's very
useful!
But I have a problem with it and James is trying to help me (but also
asked me to seek for more help) I hope you can help me (don't worry if you
can't):

the proper way to use panel functions in lattice package?
Hi,
I was trying to stack a topographic map readed in from esri shapefile with a
contour map and a vector map. However, the plotMap(maptools) and
contourplot(lattice) do not seem to work well on top of each other. Here is
part of my code.
xrange<-range(225000:350000)
yrange<-range(2685000:2810000)
basemap <- read.shape("Twn25_town_dxf_Polygon.shp")

Beginner Q- dates in the xrange?
Hi all- terribly beginner question here, but I can't figure out how to put
dates as the values for my x range in a plot. Example:
xrange <- results$current
yrange <- results$DIFF
plot(xrange, yrange, type="n", xlab="Date", ylab="Differential")
lines(results$DIFF, type="l", lwd=1.5, col="red")
Where xrange is:

in order to save space for a publication, it would be nice to have a

Masking oceans using polypath
Hi R-help
I am trying to mask the ocean from an image plot I have made.
Here is some example code:
library(mapdata)
image(x=110:155, y =-40:-10, z = outer(1:45, 1:30, "+"),
xlab = "lon", ylab = "lat")
outline <- map("worldHires", plot=FALSE) # returns a list of x/y coords
xrange <- range(outline$x, na.rm=TRUE) # get bounding box

range
I'm just beginning with R, and i've got a little problem, I would like
to have my own xrange and yrange on the graph when I plot a matrix, and
not the one R creates automatically.
Thank you for your help

Maintaining specific order when using aggregate or change order on axis
Hi All,
I'm using the following code to produce some stacked bar graphs.

How to break an axis?
Dear list,
I need to plot four almost horizontal lines with y-values around
1,3,4, 400. If I plot them directly, the first three lines will be
indiscernible so I am thinking of breaking y-axis into two parts, one
with range (0,5), another (395,400). Is there an easy way to do this?
I can think of two ways:
1. use two plots and draw axes manually. The plot margins, are however
difficult to

Window on a vector
Dear all,
I have a large vector (lets call it myVector) and I want to plot its value with the logic below
yaxis<-myVector[1]
yaxis<-c(xaxis,mean(myvector[2:3])
yaxis<-c(xaxis,mean(myvector[4:8])
yaxis<c(xaxis,mean(myvector[9:16])
yaxis<c(xaxis,mean(myvector[17:32])
this has to stop when the new ..... yaxis<c(xaxis,mean(myvector[1024:2048]) will not find the correspondent number

Comparing density plots using same axes or same axes scale
Good Evening-
I have a set of nine scenarios I want to plot to see how the distribution

am using this code

for(i in 1:9) {
d<-density(sag[,i])

parsing numbers from a string
Dear R-help members,
I have several large data sets from certain simulations I did and now I want to plot the results nicely.
I don't know anything about the size of the x and y values in advance.
Plotting these values is not a problem.
However, I want to add errorbars (errbar in the Hmisc package).
1) For this I'm factoring the data (xdata00 varies from 0 to max(xdata00))

barplot with log base 2 scale or shift the x-axis
Hi,
I have data that is on a log base 2 scale. It goes from negative factors of
2 to positive ones. I am using barplot. However, I don't want the data
centered at 0 - I want the min of the yaxis to be just below the lowest
value in the data. The plots are kind of deceptive switching between
positive and negative. I see that barplot has a log option, but that
doesn't seem to be

How to plot several graphs in a single 2-D figure?
Hi, R-listers
I tried to plot several graphs in a sigle x-y coordinate settings, like the
following:

where "*" and "s" denote two diffrent plots.
However, when I used

Re: using shapefile as owin
My sincerest apologies, as this is a very elementary problem, but I have
searched through archives and FAQs and on the web, and I am at the end of my
own resources.
I need to do analysis of a spatial point process occuring with four
counties, using spatstat. I've had no trouble importing the shapefiles, but
I can't seem to figure out what I need to do in order to use the boundary as

barplot
Hi,
a couple of simple graphics questions:
1. I have a little function that makes bar plots. Now I would like to
limit the Y-axis outside this
function (that means after calling the barplot() command) depending on
the data to be plotted .
Does anyone know how to do this ???
2. When using barplot() and limiting the yAxis, R draws the bars below
the x-axis. How can I avoid this problem ??

help to use ppp in spatial analysis
Hi,
i am using spatstat package for spatial data analysis and now i have a problem to create a point pattern. The points are in file "points.txt" (first column for Latitude and second column for Longitude ) and I imported them and separated each columns in two arrays x and y. If I plots x and y ( e.g plot(x,y) ) the result appears in square area without problems and the scale is
