Incorrect display of b[hat((a))] expression in plots
Hi, I am not sure if this is a bug or a non-implement feature of text-drawing functions with TeX-style expression, but hat() and some of its equals does not get the right "bounding boxes" if they are put in sub- or superscripts. Spam-Filter @stat.math.ethz.ch: was dead for about 15 hours

Fortran 90 / 95 compilers? // interface packages for R ?
We have (spatial statistics) group here that are (about to) interface Fortran 90 and/or 95 software to R and/or S-plus. My recommendation has been against this because of non-availability of GNU or other free (not only moneywise, in the GNU sense) compilers for Fortran 9x. Hi All, What do you consider to be the best book(reference) on nonparametric regression? I am currently reading the book of Kunio Takezawa(2006): "Introduction to nonparametric regression". What is "..." when it's empty? -- differences to S
i) (function(x, ...) length(...))(1) gives 0 in S (plus 3.4) and an error in R. It also gives an error in Splus 5.0r3. So we could well remain as we are... however ii) (function(x, ...) length(...))(1,2) gives 1 in all dialects of S that I have available. finding interpolated values along an empirical parametric curve
Given the following data, I am plotting log.det ~ norm.beta, where the points depend on a parameter, lambda (but there is no functional form).
