blues in c
G'Day,
I'm a little confused why the c function has the followng effect on
classes - is this a feature ? My workround [ class(cc) <- c("POSIXt",
"POSIXct") ] seems to do the job.
Many thanks

RODBC & POSIX & Daylight Saving blues
Dear All,
The recent improvement in RODBC to recognize datetimes in tables has
exposed my ongoing confusion.
All my data are obtained from a satellite system (Argos) which tags events
in the GMT time zone. Daylight saving is ignored. To my way of thinking
this means that
1. twelve-o-clock means halfway through the day regardless of season, and
2. the difftime of any two dates where

AEL Question
Hi, all. I'm making my first foray into AEL. I'm starting with a
simple macro, but I've already encountered an odd behaviour. I'm
wondering if someone can shed some insight:

macro newPlaceCallPSTN {

Outbound Call Transfer Problem
Hi
I am using Asterisk 1.2 and for the life of me, I am unable to transfer
outbound calls (eg calls I initiate from sip extensions). When I press
#, nothing happens. Inbound calls transfer fine, but only once per call.
The problem happens:
- With both software and hardware phones.
- With calls going out through the ZAP channel and to internal SIP
extensions.
- After I have transferred an

ChanIsAvail not working
I'm testing ChanIsAvail context and it is not working for me.

Regression slopes
Hi,
Sorry if this is an obvious one, but is there a simple way to modify the lm
function to test whether a slope coefficient is significantly different
from 1 instead of different from 0?
Thanks,
Martin

Factor level comparisons in lme
Hello,
I''m trying to fit a linear mixed effects model of the form:
lme(y ~ x * Sex * Year, random=x|subject)
where Sex and Year are factors with two and three levels respectively. I
want to compare the fixed effects for each level to the overall mean, but
the default in R is to compare to the first level. This can be changed by
adding the term -1 to the righthand side of the model

accessing current factor in tapply
G'Day,
I want to access in a function called from tapply the current factor. In
my example below, all I want to do is to write the current factor on each
histogram. Needless to say my example does not work. I would be grateful
for pointers in the right direction.
Many thanks

An error message I don't recognize
I have recently been told I will have to maintain some CentOS servers at
work. Since I have only been using Slackware for the last 16 years, I
decided to install CentOS on one of my servers at home to get an idea of
the differences. I installed CentOS 5.4 from CD with no problems, did a
yum update, set up a couple of samba shares and started to copy over
some files from one of my other

Problem with checkinstall
I installed checkinstall 1.6.2 on CentOS 5.4 VM (VMWare Server on
WinXP). After getting the dependencies installed it compiled with no
errors. But when I run it in its own source directory, I keep getting an
error that I can't track down. The message is:
install: cannot change ownership of '/usr/local/lib/installwatch.so': No

Removable drive configuration
I have a box running CentOS 5.3 with two Dataport removable drive bays
installed on the second IDE interface (/dev/hdc and hdd). I want to
configure it so I can plug in and mount various drives at different
times, including different size drives. So far it will only recognize
the first drive I plug in, and only if I boot the box after inserting
the drive.
Is there any way to set it up so I

DTMF Question (misunderstood '*' button)
Hi all!
I'm experimenting a strange problem in my Asterisk PBX:
I've got an Asterisk pbx in the office: I dial an external number; the dialled
number answers me correctly, but as soon as I press the '*' button (i.e. to
navigate through the menus or to enter a password) my Asterisk box put me on
hold.

nls.control: increasing number of iterations
Hello,
I'm using the nls function and would like to increase the number of
iterations. According to the documentation as well as other postings on
R-help, I've tried to do this using the "control" argument:
nls(y ~ SSfpl(x, A, B, xmid, scal), data=my.data,
control=nls.control(maxiter=200))
but no matter how much I increase "maxiter", I get the following error

Polycoms and BLF
I'm trying to get the BLF to work correctly on my Polycom phones. I
have the buddy watch working correctly, but can't get the BLF to change
based on the state...
Example:
When an extension is ringing, I get the same 'red light' that I get when
the extension is actually in use...
I was wondering if anyone had any experience with getting the Polycom
phone to
