Building shared libraries under Windows
I didn't manage to build a c shared library under Windows. I used rcmd shlib both with a source file and with an object file, but I got error messages in both cases. I get the same error messages both using a Dos shell and Cygwin. If I use the source file, I type: rcmd shlib prova.c and what I get is: make[1]: `libR.a' is up to date. windres --include-dir

controlling usage of digits & scientific notation in R plots; postscript margins
Dear R users: I assigned students to make some graphs and I'm having trouble answering some questions that they have. We are all working on R 2.1 on Fedora Core Linux 4 systems. 1. In the plot, the axis is not labeled by "numbers", but rather scientific notation like "-2e+08" or such. We realize that means -200,000,000. We want to beautify the plot. We would rather

R Graphics Device margins
Hello, I am relatively new to R and am using it to run Classification and Regression Tree analysis. My only issue at this point is that numbers are always cut off on the lower nodes. I've tried changing the margins with mai=c(0, 0.5, 0.5, 0) but this has not so far worked. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Best, John Z. Metcalfe, M.D., M.P.H. "figure margins too large" in RGtk2 drawing area as cairo device - why?
When using a gtkDrawingArea as a Cairo device I very often encounter the error: "figure margins too large" Even for the below "getting started" example from http://www.ggobi.org/rgtk2/ this is the case. > win = gtkWindow() > da = gtkDrawingArea() > win$add(da) > asCairoDevice(da) [1] TRUE > plot(1:10) Fehler in plot.new() : Grafikr?nder zu gro? > Also

graph margins
Hello All, I am drawing a graph having 18 small graphs inside using par(mfrow = c(6,3)) command. My problem is how to specify the margins of the whole 18 graphs. I used par(mar=c(6.5, 6.5, 1.5, 1.5)) for each graph separately already but it does not left any margins for the 'mtext()' for the margins of the whole 18 graphs. Any comments please. Thanks, MJK [[alternative HTML version

0 margin for creating eps files
Dear all, I am trying to create eps files of R plots (in Linux) so that I can import them into Word (obviously in MS Windows). What I would like is for the files to be cropped so that there is no margin around the actual plot, because I have no way of editing the files after they have been created. I have tried using par(mai=c(.75,.75,0,0)) in order to reduce the margin; it works fine when I

trellis margin sizes in absolute units
Dear R users, I have a lot of experience with traditional R graphics, but I decided to turn to trellis as it was recommended for spatial graphs by the sp package. In traditional R graphics I always first set the size of the device region absolute units (e.g. mm) and then I firmly fix the inner margins with mai and the outer margins with oma also in absolute units. What is left from the device

Lattice (Trellis) plot margins
Is there an equivalent way to set plotting parameters as in par(mai=c(......)) in the Lattice package? I searched trellis.par.get(), but am not sure which one can be used. Paul E. Green [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Setting plots margin
I have a problem with plot for summary s<-summary(response~ x1+x2+x3+x4+x5+x6+x7+ + x8+ x9+x10) > plot(s) Error in plot.new() : Figure margins too large I tried to set the margins to null with par(mai=c(0,0,0,0)) but keep getting the same error message.... What is wrong? Thanks Anne [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Unadulterated plot
To all, Apologies if this question has already been asked but I can't find anything. I can't seem to think of more specific search terms. I want to display/create a file of a pure plot with a specific height and width. I want to utilise every single pixel inside the axes. I do not want to display any margins, legends, axes, titles or spaces around the edges. Is this possible?

Multiple histograms in one plot
Hi all, I'm trying to plot multiple histograms in one plot (cross-validation values of model parameters), but I cannot seem to reduce the margins enough to fit as many of them in as I would like. I'm using split.screen to divide the window into a 5x4 grid, then plotting with hist. I've tried explicitly reducing the margins with par(mar=c(1,1,1,1)), but it doesn't seem to have

Making a picture that is wide and small height
How do I make a picture that is a horizontal strip? I tried > plot(x=c(1,2,3,4),y=c(1,1,1,1)) #works but screen image is square. > pdf("ratio.pdf",height=1,width=6) > plot(x=c(1,2,3,4),y=c(1,1,1,1)) I got the following error message: Error in plot.new() : figure margins too large Is it possible to produce an on-screen picture that is a horizontal strip? short plots: lwd, margin and postscript behavior
Hi all. I'm working with a short plot (3x3 inches), but the results (via postscript command) are not nice. The lwd command don't affect the lines (that are very large) and the margins don't change using oma, mai, mar, ... Below I put an example. Moreover, save the graphics via postscript command isn't working well (see the attached ps). Thanks by the help, Cezar Freitas.

dotchart.R and left margin
Hello, In trying to minimize the margin on the left hand side when using dotchart I found what may be a typo in the code. In the lines below from dotchart.R, should nmai[4L] be nmai[2L]? if (!(is.null(labels) && is.null(glabels))) { nmai <- par("mai") nmai[2L] <- nmai[4L] + max(linch + goffset, ginch) + 0.1 par(mai = nmai) } Thank you, Stephen Weigand --

Adding text to page margin with lattice graphics
R: 2.12.1 OS X Colleagues I am working with lattice graphics for the first time and I am confused by some aspects of controlling these graphics. The most pressing issue is the following: I can print the graphics without problems with the command: print(MYFUNCTION(SOMEOBJECT) However, I would like to add margin text (this terminology might not apply in this setting). I am able to do so with

Margins in dcast (reshape2)
Hi, I'd like to get mean values for the margins of my casted data.frame. For the casting I am using dcast() from reshape2. However, when I set the margins parameter (margins=c("grand\_row")) I get following error concerning an unrecognized escape character '\_'. So what is the correct command to get the outermost margins only in reshape2? /johannes [[alternative HTML

unrooted tree and margins, ape package
Hello, I have a question about margins when plotting an unrooted tree (type="unrooted") with the 'ape' package ver. 1.7. When I plot an unrooted tree with: no.margin=TRUE it seems that the margins are still there. It appears to be only when type="unrooted". I'm plotting multiple plots using layout() and would like to be able to get rid of the margins or if

size of graphs when using multiple figures by row
Hi all, I have a basic question concerning graphs in R. I?m using the par() function and I?m working with multiple figures by row (mfrow) but my the hight of my figures become compressed. I have 4 rows and 2 columns (because I want to plot 8 histograms (freq = FALSE ) on it. I know I can adapt my margins with for example ?oma? and ?mai? but I don?t know how to choose the size of the figure? I
