Split plot in colors/pch??
Hi all This seems like a very easy question, but I have not found a simple answer to it: If you have a dataframe, how to you plot two of then in different colors depending on a third variable? Unbalanced ANOVA in R?
Hi all I'm trying to complete a textbook example originally designed for SPSS in R, and I therefore need to find out how to compute an unbalanced ANOVA in R. I did a search on the mailinglist archives an found a post by Prof. Ripley saying one should use the lme function for (among other things) unbalanced ANOVAs, but I have not been able to use this object. My code gives me an error.. Why

Rsync with non-english characters in filenames?
Hi, I am trying to use rsync to migrate homefolders from one server to another. For this I use: > rsync --rsh="ssh -l root" -vaz beaucent.ling.umu.se:/export/home/ . Which works fine until I get to some files where the user has, unfortunatelly, used a non-ascii character in the file name: --- snip -- ...

Urgent - odfWeave produces graphs /images with Read-Error
Dear list, I have been working on a report with around 60 images in it, and everything has been fine, until now. I find that the image output that is produced by odfWeave produces images that are NOT readable by OpenOffice or NeoOffice. I get empty boxes with Read-Error written in them. While generating the file using odfWeave, I can see them being generated on the screen, and they all seem fine.

How do I get just the two last tokens of each string in a vector?
Dear list, Sorry for asking this very silly question on the list, but I seem to have made my life complicated by going into string manipulation in vectors. What I need is to get the last part of a sting (the two last tokens, separated by a space), and of course, this should be done for all strings in a vector, creating a new vector of exual size. So, a <- c(" %L H*L L*H H%",

Best option for exporting data frame to SPSS?
Dear list, I am leaving my old position and now need to convert my R data frames into a format that can be used by an SPSS user replacing me, without running into conversion problems. The data set consists of strings in UTF8 encoding and values in double precision floats. The data set is not terribly large, but I had bit problems getting it into R due to the large number of unfortunate characters

Post hoc analysis for ANOVA with repeated measures
Dear all, how can I perform a post hoc analysis for ANOVA with repeated measures (in presence of a balanced design)? I am not able to find a good example over internet in R...is there among you someone so kind to give me an hint with a R example please? For example, the aov result of my analysis says that there is a statistical difference between stimuli (there are 7 different stimuli). ...I

Non-parametric test for repeated measures and post-hoc single comparisons in R?
Some attribute x from 17 individuals was recorded repeatedly on 6 time points using a Likert scale with 7 distractors. Which statistical test(s) can I apply to check whether the changes along the 6 time points were significant? set.seed( 123 ) x <- matrix( sample( 1:7, 17*6, repl=T ), nrow = 17, byrow = TRUE, dimnames = list(1:17, paste( 'T', 1:6, sep='' )) ) I found

post hoc tests two way repeated measures anova
Hi, is there a specific/appropriate function/package to perform post hoc tests when running a two way repeated measures anova? I'm looking for something that will be equivalent to the 'TukeyHSD()' for between subjects anova (with 'aov()'). For one way repeated measures anova, the 'pairwise.t.test()' function seems to work correctly but the results are questionable for

Subset with selection variable from function argument. Is there another way?
Dear list, I'm making my current code more generic and would like some advise. The basic problem is subset and the name of the column to be compared for selection. What I've come up with is > data(mammals) > set <- bottompremolars" > subset(mammals, eval(parse(file="",text=set)) > 2) This seems a bit odd. Is there a nicer way? /Fredrik

Tukey HSD (or other post hoc tests) following repeated measures ANOVA
Hi everyone, I am fairly new to R, and I am aware that others have had this problem before, but I have failed to solve the problem from previous replies I found in the archives. As this is such a standard procedure in psychological science, there must be an elegant solution to this...I think. I would much appreciate a solution that even I could understand... ;-) Now, I want to calculate a

barchart in black & white with 10 categories?
Dear list, I am trying to plot a barchart (from lattice) in B & W, with 10 categories per bar. It seems that the colours are recycled after reachingcategory number 7, which creates a problem interpreting the chart. I therefore have two questions: 1) How do I get more shades? 2) Does anyone have a theme to share with me with distinctive shades in Black & White? Thankful for all the
