building a package
Dear R-helpers,
I'm learning how to compile R packages with fortran
routines and use the acepack source as an example.
After some hiccups (Guido told me about the
need to set make_mode=UNIX) I got to the following:
`make pkg-acepack' runs without error (see below),
but it does not
* compile any .f file in acepack/src
* (hence) try to create any dll file or libs

Building acepack for Rw1000 under Win98
(Sorry, I had the previous emails on a different machine.)
Thanks to Prof Ripley for diagnosing the problem with
inconsistent capitals under Win98. It's 'interesting':
* I had ...\acepack\Src\Ace.f Avas.f and Rlsmo.f (tar'ed in
a Unix machine and Ws_FTP'ed to the PC)
* when the directory name was changed to ...\acepack\src
it still didn't work

Has anyone had success building a package on a windows machine?
I am trying the following command with no luck (perhaps my flags are
incorrect?). At this point I am stuck. Any help greatly appreciated.

compiling packages
Hello, happy new year to all.
The new Year gave me a new computer with Win98 and promptly I installed
R on it.
I created a directory R, with subdirectories gcc, perl,bin, helpwrk and
rw1040.
I got rw1040 from BDR place, the rest were gotter from the internet in
the last week of the year, i.e. they are the newest versions.
I modified autoexec.bat to put gcc\bin, perl\bin, etc in the path. I put

rw1020 Rcmd INSTALL path\ deletes rw1020\library\* (PR#789)
The trailing backslash seems to be the culprit.
After looking at rw1020\bin\INSTALL, I noticed
$pkg =~ s/\/$//;
which I assume is to strip the trailing slash from a package name
before obtaining the package name and cleaning out its directory
I added
$pkg =~ s/\\$//;
immediately after this line. Rerunning
Rcmd INSTALL C:\rw1011\src\library\bqtl\
with that change seemed to work OK

troubleshoot the following problem. Maybe you already know about this, but I
certainly didn't. In the end I also suggest an update fix.
PROBLEM:
I have been building packages for a couple of months now without any
problems. However, a couple of hours ago I ran into a strange problem, which

download problem!
Hi,
I recently had trouble downloading R contributed packages, such as acepack.
When I saved acepack.zip to my R library, extracted it and went back to R
and type "library(acepack)", I got the following warning
Package `acepack' contains no R code in: library(acepack)
Could you please tell me the reason?
Thank you very much!

Bug in acepack (PR#2352)
This ancient bug was tracked to the acepack library, line 556 in line
src/avas.f
The troublesome line is:
if (x(n).gt.x(1)) go to 30
Since the input arguments are empty, referencing x(1) and x(n) cause
a Segmentation fault, and cause R to crash. Acepack author and
maintainer Rob Tibshirani <tibs at utstat.toronto.edu> has been contacted
with this information. This is not a

R-1.5.0: compiling package foreign on WinNT failed
Dear R-help,
I was able to build R-1.5.0 on WinNT w/o problem (actually it seems easier
than previous version). However, I encountered problem when trying to
compile the recommended package foreign:

Build R-patched from Source
Hi,
If I want to build R-patched from source (on Windows), do I need to edit
Makefile and/or MkRules at all?
I have followed all instructions in the INSTALL file (under
R-patched/src/gnuwin32/), as well as downloaded all the files from
http://www.stats.ox.ac.uk/pub/Rtools/ . My PATH variable has been
modified accordingly.
Now, with the only change to MkRules I made was to modify the Tcl/Tk
