Previewing oggvorbis files in GNOME...
Hi. I'm wondering if anyone out there can give me a little help trying
to figure something out: I presently am running CentOS4.1 with GNOME as
my desktop (It runs quite well, I must say!). I just have a little
curiosity: I have a few audio files (.wav, .mp3 and .ogg) and I like to
"preview" them. When run my mouse over the .wav files (and mp3 files)

Thanks Dragos,
I assume I will be setting those parameters during initialization of
encoder right?
Question is, if connection gets too lossy, how will opus adapt to it? Can
it automatically shift bitrate down to minimize impact?
Mark from IRC suggests that the app has to be aware of the losses and
change it on the fly.
Has anybody on the list tried this?

Fourier / Bandpass filter help?

I am trying to apply some digital signal analysis methods to IPv4 networks. Specifically, I have had some success using the Fast Fourier Transform in R to find periodic events in IPv4 network traffic by producing periodograms. I store network traffic in a mysql database so I have been using RMySQL to generate a data frame of [timestamp,events] (the FFT is run on the vector of events).

Questions regarding OPUS_APPLICATION_AUDIO vs OPUS_BANDWIDTH_NARROWBAND
I have an audio device whose 'driver' gives me Opus encoded frames using
OPUS_APPLICATION_AUDIO and max bandwidth set to OPUS_BANDWIDTH_NARROWBAND.
How does Opus encoder decide the center point of the 4K bandpass filter?
Is it done frame by frame?

22 kHz version of CELT
Hi,
I'd like to know the reasons why CELT supports only signals with sampling
frequency in the range of 32-96 kHz.
In effect, it can clearly outperform speex at high bitrates, and has
potential to be used in high quality voice communications even for 11, 16
and 22 kHz speech signals. It could also compete with SILK codec (to be soon
released by Skype).

Questions about window sizes
Hello,
I have a few questions about the block size in ogg vorbis
1. The allowed blocksizes are powers of two between 64 and 8192 Samples.
As I understood , there are fixed sizes for long and short blocks .
The encoder can pick any allowed value for long blocks and onother value, that must
be smaller or equal to the first one, for short blocks.
On which base does the encoder choose the size for

bitrate limits don't work with -q settings?
I'm sorry if this question has been asked before; I've looked through
the archives and haven't seen anything.
The problem I'm seeing is that oggenc's VBR encoding doesn't seem to pay
attention to any sort of bitrate limitation, either the -m or
bitrate_hard_min settings. It isn't that it temporarily dips below the
minimum; the average for the whole (in this case,

convolve bug?
I have been experimenting with convolve().
What I know about convolution I learned from engineering (they call this
stuff linear systems theory), not statistics, so maybe this is all just a
matter of different conventions. BUT I notice very weird things with
convolve().

Hi,
Man page for 'convolve' says:
conj: logical; if 'TRUE', take the complex _conjugate_ before
back-transforming (default, and used for usual convolution).
The complex conjugate of 'x', of 'y', of both?
In fact it seems that it takes the complex conjugate of 'y' only which
is OK but might be worth mentioning because (1) conj=TRUE is the

The audio bandpass setting is only configurable when the encoder is instantiated (eg: start of a Voip call ) , but you can change the bitrate anytime.For example if you can read incoming RTCP packets , you can check if there's reported packet loss , and then lower the bitrate accordingly.Yes, the app has to be aware of the packetloss ?percentage.

We obtained some disturbing results from convolve() (inaccuracies and negative
probabilities). We'll try to make the context clear in as few lines as
possible...
Our function panjer() (code below) basically computes recursively the
probability mass function of a compound Poisson distribution. When the
Poisson parameter lambda is very large, the starting value of the recursive
scheme ---
