R INSTALL *.tgz fails (minor docs/feature bug) (PR#652)
R Team, I was attempting to install Lindsey's rmutil.tgz and other non-CRAN packages using 'R INSTALL', for example 'R INSTALL rmutil.tgz' after downloading 'rmutil.tgz' from Lindsey's page (as linked from r-project.org page). Directly using the compressed file as 'R INSTALL rmutil.tgz' failed, though the shell help from 'R INSTALL --help'

gauss.hermite?
The search at www.r-project.org mentioned a function "gauss.hermite{rmutil}". However, 'install.packages("rmutil")' produced, 'No package "rmutil" on CRAN.' How can I find the current status of "gauss.hermite" and "rmutil"? Thanks, Spencer Graves

Negative Binomial modelling
I have some data which I am trying to fit with a negative binomial distribution. I have found the glm.nb function from MASS. I have reason to believe that the mean parameter mu depends on certain factors, and that the shape parameter theta depends on others. If, say, the factors are P and Q, it might be that mu ~ P:Q and theta ~ P (where mu ~ P:Q means that mu is a function of the pair (P,Q))

Installing Lindsey's packages
Dear r-helpers, I downloaded http://popgen.unimaas.nl/~jlindsey/rcode/rmutil.tar (it was originally .tgz, but got unzipped by my browser). Can anyone give me detailed instructions on installing this and Lindsey's other packages on R version 2.4.0 (2006-10-03)---(powerpc- apple-darwin8.7.0, locale: C)? _____________________________ Professor Michael Kubovy University of Virginia

bivariate normal cdf
-- R Help List -- I am looking for a bivariate normal cdf routine in R. I have some fortran routines for this, which appear to be based on 15-point quadrature. Any guidance/suggestions on making these in loadable R-functions would be appreciated. Thanks, Dan =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Daniel A. Threshhold Models in gnlm
Hello, I am interested in fitting a generalized nonlinear regression (gnlr) model with negative binomial errors. I have found Jim Lindsay's package that will do gnlr, but I have having trouble with the particular model I am interested in fitting. It is a threshhold model, where below a certain value of one of the parameters being fitted, the model changes. Here is a sample: Cones:

R-0.90.0 untar
I had a couple of problems getting R 0.90.0. In case anyone has similar problems, I though I would mention them. 1/ I can't use "ftp cvs.r-project.org" from either home or work. The ftp service does not seem to be available. Perhaps this is intended. I only discovered it because I thought the file I got through Netscape might be corrupted. (I don't understand why Netscape

multilevel factor model in lmer
Hello -- I am curious if lmer can be used to fit a multilevel factor model such as a two-parameter item response model. The one parameter model is straightforward. A two-factor model requires a set of factor loadings multiplying a single random effect. For example, a logit model for the ith subject responding correctly to the jth item (j=1,..,J) is logit[p(ij)] = a1*item1(i) + ... + aJ *

Problems with installation on Debian
Hello- Tired of the crashes I was experiencing with r 1.2.1 on Windows ME, I downloaded the r-1.2.1.tgz under my Debian Linux box. I untared, unzipped and then I ./configure and make as specified i the FAQ. But something went wrong...I had version 0.90 per-installed, as it comes with the normal Debian distribution and now, whenever I run R, the old version is the one that executed. Can

Have Class Only Perform Actions When There Is Work To Do (i.e. Making Them Idempotent)
Howdy. I feel like I am missing something really simply with regards to the way that Puppet works and I am wondering if someone can point me in the write direction. I have written a class that downloads, uncompresses, compiles, and installs Python from source. So far so good. The problem is that it only needs to do this once, when Python is not already in place (or some other custom

Installing R-1.5.0 on Linux
Dear all, I am sorry in advance because probably my question was already discussed. I have installed an R version R-1.3.1 on Linux RedHat 6.2. As I want to install R-1.5.0, I have first followed a suggestion of Peter Dalgaard (mail in FAQ) in order to keep the version R-1.3.1 by renaming /usr/local/lib/R and /usr/local/bin/R (/usr/local/lib/R-1.3.1 and /usr/local/bin/R-1.3.1 )and then set

RHOME
R-help -- I built R-2.2.1 in my own directory on a sun (solaris). Now I would like the sysadmin to move the contents to /usr/local/lib and place the binary in /usr/local/bin. No problem. However, the RHOME variable defaults to the directory from which R was built so it is not usable by anyone but me or ROOT. I would like to avoid building this again if possible. Any ideas? Thanks, Dan

Source Code for zoo?
Hi, I downloaded the source code for the package zoo (zoo_1.2-2.tgz from CRAN). When I gunzip and untar the file I can't find the R / C / FORTRAN code for the library. In the R directory under zoo, the listing is for 3 files: zoo zoo.rdb zoo.rdx Is the code encoded in one of these files? I've had this problem with other packages too, trying to browse the source. Am I missing something

GlusterFS 3.7 - slow/poor performances
Dear all, I have a crash test cluster where i?ve tested the new version of GlusterFS (v3.7) before upgrading my HPC cluster in production. But? all my tests show me very very low performances. For my benches, as you can read below, I do some actions (untar, du, find, tar, rm) with linux kernel sources, dropping cache, each on distributed, replicated, distributed-replicated, single (single
