x labeling in an interaction.plot
Dear R-Users,
Is it possible to omit the automatic x labeling in an interaction.plot?
xaxt="n" doesn't seem to work. Also I tried to set col.axis="white" but it
changes only y annotation color.
Thanks,
Ant?nio Olinto

interaction plot with intervals based on TukeyHSD
Hi,
The problem is that I would like to do an interaction plot with
intervals based on Tukey's honestly significant difference (HSD)
procedure, but I do not know how to do it in R.
I have 3 factors "A", "B" and "C" and a response variable "response".
I would like to study a model where there are main effects and second
order interaction effects.

'at' parameter in mtext(.., adj=0, outer=T) (PR#396)
Depending on the setting of par()$usr,
the 'at' setting in mtext(.., adj=0, outer=T) may cause the
text to appear in an anomalous position (e. g. in the first
instance below, at the left of the plot region rather than
at 'at=0' in the figure region), or the text may not appear
at all.
If one does not set the 'at' parameter the text appears
(with 'adj=0') on the

X11 fonts cannot be loaded - SuSE Linux solution
Dear list,
I would like to make a comment how to solve the X11 font problem under
SuSE Linux (9.0) when you get the message:
"X11 font at size 16 could not be loaded".
After having modified /etc/X11/XF86config as root (see below) you have
to run 'SuSEconfig' as root as well else nothing might be changed in the
X-Server.
After that no further messages should appear.

not a problem: a submission (PR#8714)
Full_Name: TOBY MARTHEWS
Version: 2.1.1
OS: Windows XP
Submission from: (NULL) (139.133.7.38)
I think you should have better examples on the ?plot man page, if you don't mind
me saying. Can I suggest something like this, which would probably stop so many
emails to the R help about how to put on error bars
Cheers,
Toby M

A plotting question - how to get error bars?
Dear R list,
Can anyone help with a plotting question? I'm trying to display some data
on a plot and I've almost got the format I need (see code below), but 2
things I can't get:
1. How to get "Jan","Feb","Mar" on the x=axis instead of 1:3?
2. How to get "T"s on the end of my error bars like you have in standard
scientific plots?
Any comments

How to avoid the NaN errors in dnbinom?
Hi, The code below is giving me this error message:
Error in while (err > eps) { : missing value where TRUE/FALSE needed
In addition: Warning messages:
1: In dnbinom(x, size, prob, log) : NaNs produced
2: In dnbinom(x, size, prob, log) : NaNs produced
I know from the help files that for dnbinom "Invalid size or prob will
result in return value NaN, with a warning", but I am not able

Conditional error bars
How can I condition any error bar function that use the arrows() function,
such as 'CI.plot' (see example below) or 'error.bars', to draw only upper
error bar (upper CI) if the bar value (mean) is positive and the lower
error bar (lower CI) if bar value is negative?

resolution of windows metafiles
I am having trouble getting smooth-appearing curves in figures produced as
windows metafiles using R (R-1.1.1 on Windows 98). When I import them into
a word processor (either MS Word 97, or WordPerfect 9.0), the figures
appear only slightly bumpy on screen, but when printed, there is a clear
jaggedness reminiscent of aliasing. Is there a fix for this (if the answer
is "upgrade to 1.2",

Rank and extract data from a series
Here's one way. Suppose your "time series" is in a vector called "x".
top10 <- sort(x, decreasing=TRUE)[1:10]
mean.index <- mean(which(x %in% top10))

cov.unscaled in NLS - how to define cov.scaled to make comparable to SAS proc NLIN output - and theoretically WHY are they different
I am running a 3-parameter nonlinear fit using the default Gauss-Newton
method of nls.
initialValues.L = list(b=4,d=0.04,t=180);
fit.nls.L = nls(
myModel.nlm ,
fData.L,
start = initialValues.L,
control = nls.control(warnOnly = TRUE),
trace=T
);
summary.nls.L = summary(fit.nls.L);
I run the same analysis in SAS proc NLIN.
proc nlin data=apples outest=a;
parms b=4 d=.04 t=180;

cov.unscaled in gls object
Hi list,
can I extract the cov.unscaled ("the unscaled covariance matrix") from a
gls fit (package nlme), like with summary.lm? Background: In a fixed
effect meta analysis regression the standard errors of the coefficients
can be computed as sqrt(diag(cov.unscaled)) where cov.unscaled is
(X'WX). I try do do this with a gls-fit.
Thanks, Sven

tcltk: multiple listboxes, selection
Dear list,
I have multiple (BWidget) listboxes in the same toplevel window.
The problem is, if I select (by left clicking) on one of those
listbox elements, the current selection in the *other* listboxes is
cleared!
Anybody knows how I can prevent this?
Here's my code (sorry not complete):
(E.g. If I select an X value, I'd lose the Y value I selected before)
