Problem installing source packages on OS X
I am attempting to install the Hmisc, rreport and Design packages, but am not able to do so. I am running R v1.9.1 on Mac OS 10.3.5. I have tried installation using both the GUI version of R and also running R from sudo in a terminal session. In the terminal I receive the following error: * Installing *source* package 'Design' ... ** libs g77 -fno-common -g -O2 -c lrmfit.f -o

Sacrilege, but...
RedHat 6.0 originally, with upgraded glibc. I just checked the machine again and I was off on the versions. glibc-2.1.3-22 glib-1.2.3-1 glibc-devel-2.1.3-22 Still, pretty similar. As far as I know, those are most recent for RH6. Upgrading the server to 7.x is not exactly easy since it's in co-lo 3 hours away. Plus, until now, I don't think anyone knew Icecast may be effected by this

rgl on Mac OS
Hi, It seems like a number of people on this list can install rgl but have problem loading it. I found myself in the same situation too. I have tried the workaround of removing /usr/X11R6/lib from DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH, but it doesn't seem to work for me, I am still getting the same error (that everyone else seems to get). Can anyone give me some ideas on what else to try? I have Mac OS 10.3.5,

MDS with missing data?
Hello I will be applying MDS (actually Isomap) to make a psychological "concept map" of the similarities between N concepts. I would like to scale to a large number of concepts, however, the resulting N*(N-1) pairwise similarities is prohibitive for a user survey. I'm thinking of giving people random subsets of the pairwise similarities. Does anyone have recommendations for this

when RedHat makes patches for only some versions
I guess this is really a RedHat, not CentOS question, but I?m hoping that someone here will be familiar enough with the upstream policy to have some useful information. How does RedHat decide which versions to release patches for, e.g. https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2015-7613 <https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2015-7613> which has only a RH7 erratum, not 6? And are

RH7.0 compilation
Hi everyone, Like most people with RH7.0 Linux, I had problems with their "experimental" gcc-2.96 compiler. To circumvent the problem, I installed stock gcc-2.95.2 in the /usr/local tree, so it will be picked up first as /usr/local/bin if before /usr/bin on my PATH. With this setup I was able to compile R-1.2.0 straight out of the box (as well as compile Linux kernels). One problem I

Canberra dist and double zeros
Canberra distance is defined in function `dist' (standard library `mva') as sum(|x_i - y_i| / |x_i + y_i|) Obviously this is undefined for cases where both x_i and y_i are zeros. Since double zeros are common in many data sets, this is a nuisance. In our field (from which the distance is coming), it is customary to remove double zeros: contribution to distance is zero when both x_i

daemon
Hi, I am struggling with starting smbd and nmbd as daemon under RH7.0. I made a file just like the example in the doc: #!/bin/sh /usr/local/samba/bin/smbd -D /usr/local/samba/bin/nmbd -D which I called "startsmb". Then I changed added the execution permission and ran it, but it doesn't run as a daemon. I also tried running both commands from the command line, but it

R works on Fedora Core 3
The RPM for Fedora Core 2 seems to work just fine on Core 3. (The graphics window got smaller, but I'm sure there is a setting for that.) Hi, I'd like to perform Dufrene-Legendre Indicator Species Analysis for a multivariate regression tree. However I have problems with arguments of duleg(veg,class,numitr=1000)function. How to obtain a vector of numeric class memberships for samples, or a classification object returned from mvpart? thanks in advance -- Best regards, Agnieszka Strzelczak
