help on sampling from the truncated normal/gamma distribution on the far end (probability is very low)
Hi, guys,
I am trying to sample from a truncated normal/gamma distribution.
But only the far end of the distribution (where the probability is very low)
is left. e.g.
mu = - 4;
sigma = 0.1;
The distribution is Normal(mu,sigma^2) truncated on [0,+Inf];
How can I get a sample? I tried to use inverse CDF method, but got Inf as
answers. Please help me out.
Also, pls help me on the similar

Additional autoconf test for linuxppc/mklinux
I am attaching a patch to R-0.63's configure.in file which will enable
R to detect and use some special math libraries on linuxppc and mklinux.
The patch provides tests for these libraries and enable/disable switches
for them as well.
One library is the libmoto math library which must be used in
conjunction
with libm (it only replaces some of libm's functions). The other is a

Problems with Lapack's eigen() on 64-bit
I'm only now realizing that we have severe problems with R on our
AMD 'Opteron' and 'Athlon64' clients running Redhat Enterprise
with all 64-bit libraries (AFAICS).
The Lapack problem happens for R-patched and R-devel both on
the Opteron and the Athlon64.
Here are platform details:

R 2.1.1 installation fails under Suse 10.0 (PR#8533)
Full_Name: Sigbert Klinke
Version: 2.1.1
OS: Suse Linux 10.0 (Full DVD)
Submission from: (NULL) (141.20.100.252)
Suse 10.0 installs only a Fortran 95 compiler with g77 compability mode. Using
this leads in "configure" to an abortion with problems about "FPICFLAGS".
Deinstalling g77 compatiblity mode, using f2c, compiles R. But after calling R()

bounds violations, infinite loops in optim/L-BFGS-B (PR#671)
I'm having some trouble with optim(method="L-BFGS-B"),
and I'm not sure I have the ability to track down and fix
what seem to be bugs within optim().
I'm bootstrapping an original data set and fitting a model
to each bootstrapped data set. For some bootstrapped samples,
optim() sets negative parameter values (despite the fact that
I have explicitly set non-zero lower

I hope someone can point me, a newcomer to building R as well as 64-bit R, in
a useful direction. I have a dual Opteron 275 box running RedHat EL4. I ran
configure successfully, and, then, get the following error while running make:

Installation of R-3.0.2 failed Fortran error
Dear all,
I have a big problem to compile R-3.0.2 on our SUSE SLES 11 Server.
Make breaks up with fortran errors and so the installation isn't
successful
This is a part from the make run output.:

nlminb with constraints failing on some platforms
I've noticed unstable behavior of nlminb on some Linux systems. The problem can be reproduced by compiling R-3.5.2 using gcc-8.2 and running the following snippet:
f <- function(x) sum( log(diff(x)^2+.01) + (x[1]-1)^2 )
opt <- nlminb(rep(0, 10), f, lower=-1, upper=3)
xhat <- rep(1, 10)
abs( opt$objective - f(xhat) ) < 1e-4 ## Must be TRUE
The example works perfectly when

gfortran optimization problems
Colleagues,
I have a routine in package labdsv that calls a FORTRAN subroutine.
Recently, I was informed that it sometimes gives different results on a
PC and Mac, and that the PC version is clearly wrong. I tested it on
linux (because I don't have a PC), and I get the same (incorrect)
behavior as the PC.
Simply by inserting debug WRITE statements in the FORTRAN I would get
different,

linking R to goto blas
Dear all,
I am currently trying to link R 2.1.0 to the GOTO BLAS 0.99.3 library on
a box running Fedora Core 3 , basically following the steps indicated in
the R-Admin document:
1: I downloaded the current libgoto.xxx.so from
http://www.cs.utexas.edu/users/kgoto/libraries/libgoto_prescott-32-r0.99-3.so.gz,
a version suitable for our XEON machine (Nocona core), unpacked it to
/usr/lib and created

install problem -- libg2c
Hi, there
I'm totally new to this. I used to use SPLUS, but think maybe
useful to try R at home.
But seems it doesn't like me. I got error message says
ld: cannot open -lg2c: No such file or directory
My OS is openlinux 2.3. I use egcs-2.91.66. I searched under
/lib/egcs-2.91.66/ but found no libg2c.a. There's only a libgcc.a.
Thought maybe g77 people changed

EGCS optimizer bug?
The current development version dies in qbeta() when compiled with
egcs -O, egcs 1.0.2 and glibc 2.0.7 (RedHat versions). Since this also
kill the F and t distributions, it doesn't exactly do wonders for R's
usefulness...
Anyone else seeing this or has my setup just gone out of whack? It
does look pretty much like a clear compiler bug when inlining math
functions (storing temporaries

Serious GCC/EGCS 2.91 bug found (bites rc2)
Hi folks,
The folks on RedHat who have been complaining of poor-quality encodes
prompted us to track down the trouble, and it's a compiler bug. We
have the asm .s files to prove it :-)
The summary: EGCS (gcc) versions through March 1999, including up to
at least gcc/egcs 2.91.66 have a serious floating point optimization
bug that hits Vorbis. This is a fairly old gcc version, but RedHat
