Installing R on RedHat7.0
I recently got a new machine, running RedHat Linux 7.0 (kernel 2.2.16, XFree864.0.1), and tried to install R-1.1.1 on it from the rpm file on CRAN. RPM complained about missing dependencies: libreadline.so.3 libtcl8.0 libtk8.0 The RH7.0 installation includes later versions of these libraries. I went ahead and forced an installation, and of course R wouldn't work. By linking

Veto files option not working
We're getting very close now to having our RH6.1 server as we want it. Just a few anoying things left to iron out so we can trial it properly prior to going live. One of them is the "veto files" option in smb.conf. We want to stop users on Win95 clients from seeing (or deleting) the dot-files in their home shares. I've tried the above option, I've tried "hide dot

bind-chroot rpm only builds chroot tree?
I just downloaded the bind-chroot rpm and looked into it with Archive manager (so I am lazy), and no files, just the chroot tree. I am assuming there is some script that Archive manager does not show, or I am just missing it, because the ROOTDIR= did get added to /etc/sysconfig/named (and the one in the bind rpm is without this line). Just interesting that if you chroot, you are expected to

RH7.0 compilation
Hi everyone, Like most people with RH7.0 Linux, I had problems with their "experimental" gcc-2.96 compiler. To circumvent the problem, I installed stock gcc-2.95.2 in the /usr/local tree, so it will be picked up first as /usr/local/bin if before /usr/bin on my PATH. With this setup I was able to compile R-1.2.0 straight out of the box (as well as compile Linux kernels). One problem I

starting smb services at bootup on x86 RH6.1
I am running RH6.1 on an x86 with 2.0.6 installed with an RPM. I am confused as to getting smb to start at bootup. It works fine if I start it manually (/etc/rc.d/init.d/smb start). I swear, the 5.2 installation had smb start at bootup, but I can't find the difference between the two. Is the answer 1 - edit the /etc/inetd.conf file (swat needed a line uncommented) 2 - edit the

Can't get into share
It appears I have things set up. Linux (RH6.1) box is running samba and I'm trying to access shares from my 98 box. >From Network Neighborhood I can see the linux bo listed with the other LAN boxes. If I d-click to open the smb box, I DO get a folder withthe share name in explorer. Then, if I try to open that folder (share) it asks for a password for resource \\MACHINE\SHARE I enter my

daemon
Hi, I am struggling with starting smbd and nmbd as daemon under RH7.0. I made a file just like the example in the doc: #!/bin/sh /usr/local/samba/bin/smbd -D /usr/local/samba/bin/nmbd -D which I called "startsmb". Then I changed added the execution permission and ran it, but it doesn't run as a daemon. I also tried running both commands from the command line, but it

Samba 2.2.0 bug.
Ill report this as a bug, since I havent had any response to my question about it on the mailing lists. I am trying to get at the /smb file system. My understanding is to do this I MUST go thru the smbsh. When I try executing smbsh, I see: [reg@orion bin]$ smbsh Username: rwclemens Password: ERROR: can't get smbw shared lock (Invalid argument) Looking at the code its not

Could not load 'USER.DLL' (RH7.2)
I find that I can't run 16-bit apps because of a problem with user.dll. Here is an example. [john]$ wine /mnt/C/Win31/cardfile.exe err:module:BUILTIN_LoadModule loaded .so but dll user.dll still not found Could not load 'USER.DLL' required by 'CARDFILE', error=2 Terminated A 32-bit app (such as notepad.exe) does work though, other than some minor issues related to fonts. oplock break on excel files using samba 2.2.4
Hi, I search for a solution about the "oplock break" problem that occurs sometimes on my RH7.0 / Samba 2.2.4 machine when accessing Excel files on a Samba share. I didn't find any solution on the Net or on this list about this. * Is there a solution without disabling oplock ? * Is it a RedHat or a Samba problem ? Thanks in advance for your help. --- Sylvain BARTHELEMY, Senior

Logging Detail
Hi all, I am using Samba 2.2.7-security-rollup-fix on a few RH7.3 systems. I need to configure the logging to show what user/pc is accessing what file. I've been through the How-Tos at Samba.org and read the section on configuring logging detail but either I'm too tired or too stupid (both viable options ;-) ) to figure out which level I need to get this information. Can anyone tell

z: mapping on netlogon share
Is there any way to change the default netlogon share from using z: in logon scripts? We use a Win95 time recording software package that uses the same drive mapping and need to put it on our RH6.1 fileserver but have the obvious conflict. Bit of a problem really. Thanks. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ntlm_auth seems ok, initial auth failure with dovecot2 (and winbind 4.1.13)
Hello, I've read quite often that there are problems with ntlm_auth helper (last one here http://www.dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2014-June/096561.html). But haven't found any confirmation, neither it's working for anybody else nor that it's known taht this issue needs debuging. Like for ohers, my authentication tests from the commandline with ntlm_auth exactly give expected results.
