boxplot grouped by two variables.
Is there a quick way to make boxplots groups by two variables? By that
I mean, that if x axes have values ("A","B","C"), than at each value
there would be a few boxplots each for a value of second variable (say
("1","2","3")).
Thank You.

Porting S library which use "graphics.h" and "device.h"
Hello.
I am porting Splus library to R, which use S "graphics.h" and "device.h",
the library makes a number of high resolution plots using these.
Does anyone have an experience with similar porting? I don't really want to
rewrite all C code, so any recommendation would be helpful.
Thanks.

nargs() inside "[.myclass"
I am writing a function to work with class I am defining. I have a question
about using nargs() inside of parentheses function. nargs() shows the same
for supplying 1 argument, or no arguments at all. Here is a small example:
> "[.myclass"<-function(x,...) print(nargs()-1)
> x<-c(1,2,3)
> class(x)<-"myclass"
> x[]
[1] 1
> x[1]
[1] 1
> x[1,2]

Hi,
I was trying to read ~400 chips in an affybatch and I got the same message.
Could you find a remedy for that. My server has 128 GB of RAM. However, R
halted ever before it uses the memory.
I have been able to load upto 250 CEL files but this time I wanted to test
what would happen if I want to normalize 400 chips.
Thanks

Adding colored background area to a time series plot
Hi,
I am trying to add a rectangular colored background area to a plot of a time series of relative price changes. I believe that what I'm trying to do is very similar to the question and example given here:

http://www.mayin.org/ajayshah/KB/R/html/g5.html
My problem/difference is that my time series looks like so:

How to fill in a region with different patterns?
Hi to all,
Here is a question which I cannot solve. Appreciate so much for any suggestions!
I have a squared region which is irregularly divided into many rectangular patches.
Each patch is associated with a value, and two patches possibly share a common value.
I hope to fill in each patch a pattern according to its value. For
instance, if a patch has value 1, then I fill in that patch

R and TeraData
Hello,
Does anyone know a way to connect from R on Linux box to TeraData
server? I can use ODBC connection on Windows box, but with amount of
data I need (and prefer) to use large Linux box.
Thanks,

X11 & dev2bitmap
Hi,
I am trying to put some graphics I have generated from R on a
webpage using dev2bitmap to create a bitmap, .BMP, file.
When I look at my notes from 2 or 3 months ago I was successfully able to
put the ACTIVE device plot result into a bitmap file using a command such
as:
dev2bitmap("InsectSpray.BMP")
Job done!
Now when I try the same command, I get the following:

legend() with xpd=T; omission of initial plot character (PR#943)
In the following:
plot(0:1, 0:1)
legend(x=0, y=1.2, pch=c(1,2), legend=c("May","June"))
the first plot character is omitted when plotting to
the screen.
I obtained the same behaviour when placing a legend
in the margin following use of pairs()

drawing a rectangle through multiple plots
How do I draw a rectangle across multiple plots on a device?
E.g.,

I want the rectangle to extend across the whole device. How

How to draw a rect() behind a hist() ?
Hi,
I have the following code:
hist(gps$heartpercent, breaks=5)
rect(90, par("usr")[3], 100, par("usr")[4], col = "red")
How do I get the rectangle to appear behind the histogram. Barring that,
how can I make certain bars of the histogram to be a certain color?
Thanks,

Multiple symbols per single line in a legend
Hello everybody,
Is it possible to coax legend() into displaying more than one simbol per
line in legend? I have a graph like the one attached to this mail; I would
like to reorganize the legend in such a way that the duplicate text would be
omitted, i.e., the first line would read <square> <triangledown> "increasing
frequency" and the second one would read <circle>

barplot and ylim - display problems
The following single line of code shows what I am trying to do, and the
problem I am having...
barplot(c(101,102,103),ylim=c(100,103))
The 'xaxis' is missing, and the grey bars 'fall off' the plot area. This
is generally ugly, and I would like to trim the bars (ideally they would
have a ragged appearance to show that I am 'zooming in').
I can see why what I am trying to

rect function
Dear all,
I have a question about how to load data or (entering data )to each cell of
a rectangle created by rect .
e.g.
I have a matrix
rbind(1:2,1:2)
I have created a 2x2 rectangle by using:
a<-0:1/10
b<-0:1/10
kk<-expand.grid(a,b)
plot.new()
rect(kk[, 1], kk[, 2], kk[, 1] + .1,kk[, 2] + .1)
so how do we put the value of rbind(1:2,1:2) into the relevant
