Error in the inverse of a diagonal matrix?
I?m new to R so maybe this issue has been asked before and I still could not read the complete set of past messages sent to the list. I found a weird behabiour that I will explain with a simple example. Lets consider the following block of commands: > x <- diag(c(1,4,10)) > x [,1] [,2] [,3] [1,] 1 0 0 [2,] 0 4 0 [3,] 0 0 10 > invx <- x^-1 > invx

Rank of a matrix?
Hello everyone, this is a very simple question but I could not find the answer. :-( Is there any function in R for calculating the rank of a matrix? (In the sense of the dimension of the vectorial space that spans) Thank you in advance! Reference Classes copy(shallow=FALSE) unexpected behavior.
Dear all, I''ve just discovered the ''Reference Classes''. In a previous attempt ---a year ago--- to re-implement in a Object Oriented fashion the AMORE package using S4 classes I strongly felt the need of such capability. It''s great to have the Reference Classes now available. Along with the discovery of the Rcpp package, this new programming paradigm has boosted

train nnet
Hi R-helpers, Can some one tell me how to train 'mynn' of this type?: mynn <- nnet(y ~ x1 + ..+ x8, data = lgist, size = 2, rang = 0.1, decay = 5e-4, maxit = 200) I assume that this nn is untrained, and to train I have to split the original data into train:test data set, do leave-one-out refitting to refine the weights (please straighten this up if I was wrong). I just don't know

Changing gird marks in ggplot2
Hi, When I zoom into a graph created in ggplot2 with the coord_cartesian(ylim=c(0,5)) option, I have no values labelled on my y-axis. For this graph ggplot2 only puts labels the y-axis at intervals of 10 (i.e. 0, 10, 20, ...). However, the major portion of the graph I am interested in is located between the values of 0 and 5 on the y-axis (thus why I am zoooming). How can I coerce ggplot2 into

Windows BMPs: Why grey background? How to display BMP in R?
"white" is supposed to be the default background for BMPs (according to ?bmp) but it doesn't work > bmp("test.bmp", bg="white") > plot(0) > dev.off() # results in grey background # This seems to be a good enough workaround for now. > bmp("test.bmp") > par(bg="white") > plot(0) > dev.off() # background is white

trouble with cloud output to bmp when in loop
I have some data that I need to view in various 3-D clouds. To better see the cloud structure on a 2-D screen I would like to output a bunch of bmp files with clouds at slightly different angles, then run them through an external program to animate them. But I'm having trouble getting cloud() from the lattice package to output to bmp files. Oddly, this is only a problem when outputting

no transparent background in bmp
I've been attempting to export a graphics file of my lattice plots and no matter what color I use for the bg= argument in the bmp/jpeg/png function, the background is grey. bmp(filename = "c:/my_paper/resids.bmp", width=1024, height=1024, pointsize=10, bg="transparent") # these are lattice plots. plot them in a 3x2 matrix print( hgqqplot, position=c(0.0, 0.66, 0.5, 1.0 ),

How to write a BMP file pixel by pixel?
Dear all, I open a bmp device by the bmp() function in the png package, but I don't know how to write color pixel by pixel into the file? Any help or hint? What I want to do is to create a 512*512 bmp file with certain dots being red and others black. I have all the pixel coordinates for the red dots, but I don't know how to draw the color on the device. Please help

bmp
Hi R users, I already had post this question under the title of bmp header, there was a mistake in my post. The following is the same post without the mistake. Thanks Rostam I have a xml file. A value of one of the nodes of the xml file is a bmp image encoded in base64. I would like to read this image by R. I think I should do the following steps: 1. Decoding it from base64 to binary. 2.

bmp() shifts the image (Windows XP)
When using bmp() under Windows XP, I find that the saved image is a shifted version of the correct image. Try this: n<-5 fn<-"01.bmp" x<-matrix(runif(n*n),nrow=n) image(x,col=gray(0:255/255),axes=F,frame.plot=F) bmp(filename = fn,width = n, height = n, units = "px") par(mar=c(0,0,0,0),pty="s") image(x,col=gray(0:255/255),axes=F,frame.plot=F) dev.off() The

reading BMP or TIFF files
I realize that this question has been asked before (2003); From: Yi-Xiong Zhou Date: Sat 22 Nov 2003 - 10:57:35 EST but I am hoping that the answer has changed. Namely, I would rather read the BMP (or TIFF) files directly instead of putting them though a separate utility for conversion as suggested by, From: Prof Brian Ripley Date: Sat 22 Nov 2003 - 15:23:33 EST "Even easier is

PPM to BMP converter
Dear all, Several days ago, I posted How to write a bmp file pixel by pixel. Instead of bmp, I succeeded in writing a PPM file by using the pixmap package. Thanks for the hint generously provided by Uwe Ligges. Now I have a new question. How to convert a PPM file to BMP file in R? I know I can do this in photoshop or by some other softwares, but I think if I Can do this in R, that

Generating 1-bit and 8-bit BMP files using R
Hi, I'm trying to use the data which I generate within R to make images in .bmp format to be lateron printed by a printer. My first thought was the RImageJ package, but this seems to be discontinued. What I am currently doing is generating a matrix of grey values, which needs to be parsed into the right image format. Is anyone aware of a package or rather "easy" way to generate
