handling dates
howdy R friends, Can anyone help me with converting a ''unix'' date (seconds since 1970) into something readable? There doesn''t seem to be anything in the ''date'' package and the prospect of calculating this myself doesn''t excite me. thanks, John Strumila -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- r-help

Crosstabs
Hello all, i think i am to silly. I have installed R 1.7.1 (2003-06-16). Installed some packages like xtables ore xml. I tried out this to installing packages. Then i tried to make a crosstable like i know it from spss. They say in this list that it would be going. I made a table in asci-format, seperated with tabs or blanks and than i use something like this:

Is there an equivalent in R to the crosstabs command S-Plus? I've been searching for a while and can't seem to find anything. Thanks. Mark J. Grouped AND stacked bar charts possible in R?
Good day all, My statisticians want an R procedure that will produce grouped stacked barplots. Barplot will stack or group, but not both. The ftable function can produce a table of the exact form they want, but the barplot doesn't show all the divisions we want. For an example, here's the sample from the help file for "ftable:" data(Titanic) ftable(Titanic, row.vars = 1:3)

Crosstabs Output
Hi, I'm a new R user. I noticed that RKWard has a really nice output when it does crosstabs. It even includes the chi-squared values. However, I obviously can't simply copy this into my standalone R script. Does anyone know the code or a way for me to view the code. Secondly, if I am writing an R script I want to be able to view the output as a pdf even if my function is not a graph,

Crosstabs function
Is there a crosstabs function like the one found in S-Plus available in any of the R addon packages? I can't seem to locate anything other than the chisq.test, which is adequate but does not yield the output customarily required with any journal submission (in my field). (S-Plus, SPSS, SAS all provide examples of the required output). If there isn't such a function already

newbie query: simple crosstabs
I've been playing around with various table tools, trying to construct a fairly simple cross-tab. It shouldn't be hard, but for some reason it turning out to be (for me). If I want to see how many men and how many women agree with a agree/disagree question (coded 1,0), I can do this: >attach(mydata) >mytable <- table(male, q1.bin) # gender and a binary response variable

S function crosstabs
Hello there, I'm quite new with R. Does anybody know a true variant in R of the Splus function "crosstabs" to create contingency tables, with the possibility of assigning a weight variable? Crosstabs
Dear Users, I'm a complete novice to R. I need to do a crosstabs in R, but my data is almost completely alphanumeric (with some variables scaled). The Table routine does not seem to accept alphanumeric data. What should I do? Do I need to recode it? How should I do that? Thanks in advance, Wilfred

List of occuring values
Dear all, ftable produces a list of the frequencies of all occuring values. But how about the occuring values? How can I retrieve a list of occuring values? How can I retrieve a table with both the list of occuring values and their respective frequencies? Thank you in advance, Yours, Ferri

Ancova doesn't return test statistics
Dear all, I'm quite sure that this is a stupid question, but I'll ask anyway. I want to perform an ANCOVA with two continuous factors and three categorical factors. Plant population growth rate (GR) = dependent variable Seed reduction due to herbivory (SR) = continuous explanatory variable Herbivore species (HS, 2 levels) = categorical explanatory variable Population (Pop, 24 levels) =

Merge?
I see that feature freeze for a better than ever R has been announced. May I ask if there will be or could be "merge" function for data frames? I believe it would be very nice if this were "centrally" implemented (with regard to my humble steps to writing such a function and the related error and other precautions). I know from VR2R.pdf (courtesy Profs. Venables and Ripley)

str and structable error
Hallo I encountered a behaviour which puzzles me (but finally I did get what I wanted). I used structable and strucplot but I wanted to change names of variables in structable object. I tried to subset it, use names but to no avail. So I tried str and expected to get a structure of an object but: > sss<-structable(Titanic) > str(sss) Error in "[.structable"(x, args[[1]],

Crosstabs in R
Before I reinvent the wheel, I have need for a relatively straightforward crosstabulation (2 x n) function. I know that R has table(), ftable(), xtabs(), and summary(xtabs()), but none of these produce a fully "tricked" out cross-tabulation with marginal totals, expected cell frequencies, and an array of statistics about the contingency table. Is there a more complete (something

(no subject)
Hi All, I'm new at programming in R. Some functions create objects for which extractor functions are written to pull out some partial result. I wish to extract partial results from functions without extractor functions: for example, to pass a vector of results to another function. Even after looking at V&R S Programming I don't see a general approach. Specifically, how would I

List of tables rather than an extra dimension in the table or (l)apply(xtabs)
I'm not sure how to best explain what I am after but here goes. I have a data frame with 2 geographical factors. One is the major region the other is the component regions. I am trying to process all the regions at the same time without using "for". So I need (think, I do) a list of matrices each structured according to the number of subregions within each region. So is there a

Convert ftable to latex?
Dear list, I cannot make the latex command to output a ftable objet the way I want it. Is it posible? I found a post in the archives saying that one should use the rgroup and n.rgroup arguments to supply the row names, but so far I have been unsuccessful. This is what I have: >

graphics
I have been receiving complaints that my libraries no longer give reasonable graphics with R0.90. I have been replying that I have not changed anything. Among my travels (presently in Umea), I have finally had a chance to take a look. The best way to describe the current default graphics is HORRIBLY UGLY. The R core member who made those changes should buy glasses to see the screen better instead
