Can anyone tel me how to plot two boxplot at the same abscisse value ?
Because I want to compare the discrimination of two different biological
methods of the same data.
Thanks

global variable
Hi,
I would like to know if it is possible to make global variables in R.
My problem is that I use the same data frame in many different functions
that I have written, but it implies a very big waste of time because it
slow down the program.
So I would use my data frame without need to copy it each time in
another function to have a faster program execution.
How can I do ??
Thanks for Help

prcomp compared to SPAD
Hi !
I've used the example given in the documentation for the prcomp function
both in R and SPAD to compare the results obtained.
Surprisingly, I do not obtain the same results for the coordinates of
the principal composantes with these two softwares.
using USArrests data I obtain with R :
> summary(prcomp(USArrests))

reversing the x-axis terms on a boxplot
Hi,
I am able to reverse the order of plotting on regular plots (i.e. with the
plot() function) by manually setting the xlim variable.
Is there some trick like this which will work for a boxplot?
* for example:
l <- sample(letters, 500, replace=TRUE)
n <- runif(500)
boxplot(n ~ l)
this will produce a plot with the x-axis ranging from a->z ... i know that
these are labels,

manual construction of box&whisker plot
Dear useRs,
how can I construct a box&whisker plot based on the vector "fivenum"?
The challenge I face is as follow: I have a table such as
x | fivenum
---------------
... | (.....)
... | (.....)
and so forth....
For each observation x I have generated a vector containing the fivenum
estimates.
The first challenge is to group my fivenum vectors into groups based on

why are my multiple box & whisker plots so small?
Hi all,
I'm sure this is reallly basic, but I just can get it to work. I want to
plot six box & whisker plots together to make one figure so that they
appear one below the next.
I can do this using >par(mfrow=c(6,1)), but each box&whisker plots end up
vertically compressed to the point where I can't see the actual bars, and
there is a large amount of white space between each

french secondary boxplot
bonjour,
i'm a mathematic teacher and i have a question for R-developers :
is it possible to have (in the future) a boxplot with whiskers from
the first decile to the ninth decile, as usual in secondary french
schools... by example : boxplot(serie,range=-1) for french boxplot ?

error using boxplot.stats (but boxplot works¿?)
Hi
The answer to this may be obvious, but it's got me floored.
I'm unable to get boxplot.stats to work for me!
My session looks something like this:
> ia=read.table('/tmp/prueba.csv', header=TRUE, sep=",")
> attach(ia)
> boxplot.stats(X8weeks~Orden)
Error in sort (na.last, decreasing, ...) :
argument 1 is not a vector

Boxplot, formula interface, and labels.
I have data I'd like to plot using the formula interface to boxplot.
I call boxplot like so:
with(mydata, boxplot(count ~ geno * tissue))
I get a boxplot with x axis labels like "wt.kidney". I would like
to change the '.' to a newline. Where is this separator configured?
Thanks,

Label / Tick under single Boxplot
Hi!
I am trying to get the tick / label under a stacked
boxplot with only a single
data row. With >=2 rows it works, but with a single
one the tick resp. my class
name is not printed below the boxplot. Can anybody
point me to what am I doing
wrong?
For example:
boxplot(data.frame(c(3,4,5)),names=list("a"),beside=F)
Here, I would like to have the "a" below the single

Boxplot by factors
Dear all,
I have the following data format
cellnumber force
1 100
1 230
1 100
1 200
1 130
1 210
2 179
2 298
2 400
2 500
2 600
...........
I want to make a boxplot of the force according to the cellnumber. Here
the cellnumber is actually a factor. It has 1, 2 two levels. How can I
do that using boxplot?
Thanks in advance

How to get a grid behind a boxplot
I am using R 2.2.1 on a Windows 2000 PC.
When I do a grid() after the boxplot
it overprints the boxplot:

> grid(nx=NA, ny=NULL)
>
if I try the panel.first
> boxplot(count ~ spray, data = InsectSprays, col = "lightgray",
+ panel.first=grid(nx=NA, ny=NULL))

horizontal boxplot + xlim
Hi there,
I get a strange behaviour of a boxplot with the following code. There seems to
be a problem with the xlim-parameter. Did I do anything wrong? What else can I
do to force the boxplot to have a defined x-range?
x <- rnorm(100)
boxplot(x, notch=TRUE, xlab=parameter, xlim <- c(-4,4), horizontal = TRUE)

How to create interrupted boxplot
Hello,
I have created two boxplots with following R code. There is one outlier in
B group.
The outlier is 33. But the all other data are between 0 to 4.
How can I skip y-axis around 5 to 25, and expand 0-4 for this case. Also I
want keep the outlier in my boxplot.
I want my boxplot look like the second one, keep the outlier, and make an
interrupt of y-axis from 5 to 25.
Thanks,

boxplot() from list
I have a list containing 48 objects (each with 30 rows and 4 columns, all
numeric), and wish to produce 4 boxplot series (with 48 plots in each) ,
one for each column of each object.
Basically I want a boxplot from boxplot(mylist[[]][,i])
for i in 1:4. It seems that I can create a boxplot of length 48 from the
entire list, but I don't seem able to subscript to return 4 boxplots from
the list

hi
I have list of matrix of lenggth 61 containg the mean values..I want to make

How to return/show the indexes of unusual points in boxplot?
I am wondering if you know how to return by function or show in boxplot,
the indexes of unusual points, such as,
points that are outside the box or in [Q3+1.5IQR,Max].
For example,
> boxplot(c(4,rnorm(20),8))
There are 2 unusual points 4 and 8. How to show the indexes of 4 and 8 in
the boxplot
or return them by function?
Thanks,

question about boxplot axis
Hi:
I have a question making side by side boxplot.
My response is numeric and I want to make a side by
side boxplot of it accroding to a factor vector. So,
there are several boxplots on the same plot. Each
boxplot is with respect to one level for a factor. The
levels of
the factor are some characters. When I make the plot,
the boxplots are arranged according to the alphabetic

limites de un boxplot
Hola a todos,
Tengo una pregunta: ¿cómo puedo forzar para que el eje de ordenadas de estos dos
boxplot esté por ejemplo entre -10 y 10? He consultado la ayuda de la función
pero no he sabido cómo hacerlo.
a<-rnorm(1:100)
boxplot(a)
b<-rnorm(2,1:100)
boxplot(b)

i would like to know if it is possible to have (with the agrement of
