NLME and NA:s
Hello, I have an unbalanced data set with some factors and several variables. The missing values are spread unequally over the variables. Because of the unbalanced structure have i tried NLME, but I cannot understand how I should set up the na.omit. I would not like to use na.omit before setting up the model, as that would exclude too many observations (on the whole structure). Lets say I have

Correlation matrices
Hello, are there any good methods in R that will test if two correlation matrices (obtained in different ways) are equal? Something better than the Mantel test would be preferable. Documentation of par(gamma) (PR#540)
The on-line documentation for par() refers to a 'gamma' argument. Documentation of par(ann) (PR#539)
The on-line documentation for the 'ann' argument under par(), states "If set to 'FALSE'...". Non linear regression using Levenberg-Marquardt method
Hello, I want to fit some non linear models with the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm. It doesn''t seem to exist any function to do this in R ( well, maybe one does, but I''m a new user, and the only documentation I have is "An introduction to R"). I''d like to know if this function exists, maybe throught an additionnal package. I''d also like to know if if

Typo in documentation for order() (PR#541)

Percentile function
Is there an R function that inputs a value and a vector, and returns the percentile corresponding to the value? Something like pvalue<-function(x,vector){mean(x>=vector)} but with interpolation. Given the above function, is there a way to do the following without the loop: for(i in 1:10) y[i] <- pvalue(x[i],vector) where x and y are numeric vectors of length 10? -- Art Salwin

How do you go beyond tapply()?
"An Introduction to R" notes that the function tapply() can be used to index a vector by multiple categories. But they don't show how to do this. How does one implement, for example, the example in the text in which tax accountants are indexed by both state and sex? Is there a way to use tapply() to put the vector into bins defined by the levels instead of having to exactly match

fitting problems in coxph.fit
Dear Thomas & Dear List, the fitting function `coxph.fit' called by `coxph' may fail to estimate the regression coefficients when some values of the design matrix are very large. For example library(survival) ### load example data load(url("http://www.imbe.med.uni-erlangen.de/~hothorn/coxph_fit.Rda")) method <- "efron" ### copied from `coxph.fit' coxfit

fixup for debug package and R2.4.0
A number of users have spotted a terminal problem with the 'debug' package under R2.4.0, along the lines of > mtrace(x) > x() Error in attr(value, "row.names") <- rlabs : row names must be 'character' or 'integer', not 'double' This arose from a bug in 'rbind.data.frame' in R2.4.0 itself. The bug is fixed in R2.4.0 patched, so the

Minor logical bug in rbind.data.frame ?
When attempting to merge 3 data frames, one of which has fewer columns than the others, rbind.data.frame correctly refuses to perform the bind. However, the error message given is a bit obscure due to a logical bug in the match.names() internal function to rbind.data.frame. Illustration: ## Three data frames with same column variable names: > foo <- data.frame(v1 = c('a',

Forcing standard notation in Sweave tables
I'm hoping someone with some experience generating tables in Sweave will be able to solve this problem for me. I'm experiencing some inconsistency with the way floating point numbers are displayed -- for some tables, they will be in standard notation, e.g. 11±26 while in others, it uses exponential notation, e.g. 1.1e+01±2.6e+01 I am using code such as the following; note I have

predict.naiveBayes() bug in e1071 package
Hi, I'm currently using the R package e1071 to train naive bayes classifiers and came across a bug: When the posterior probabilities of all classes are small, the result from the predict.naiveBayes function become NaNs. This is an issue with the treatment of the log-transformed probabilities inside the predict.naiveBayes function. Here is an example to demonstrate the problem (you might need
