Documentation of par(gamma) (PR#540)
The on-line documentation for par() refers to a 'gamma' argument. However, if 'par()' is invoked, there is no gamma argument. -- Art Salwin salwin@mitretek.org (202) 863-2985 (202) 863-2988 (fax) --please do not edit the information below-- Version: platform = Windows arch = x86 os = Win32 system = x86, Win32 status = major = 1 minor = 0.0 year = 2000 month = February

Documentation of par(ann) (PR#539)
The on-line documentation for the 'ann' argument under par(), states "If set to 'FALSE'...". However, this parameter shows up as a numeric on my machine, not as a logical. -- Art Salwin salwin@mitretek.org (202) 863-2985 (202) 863-2988 (fax) --please do not edit the information below-- Version: platform = Windows arch = x86 os = Win32 system = x86, Win32

Typo in documentation for order() (PR#541)
The documentation for 'order()' has the following sentence: `sort.list' is the same, using only one argument put allowing partial sorting. Should "put" be "but" or possibly "'partial'"? -- Art Salwin salwin@mitretek.org (202) 863-2985 (202) 863-2988 (fax) --please do not edit the information below-- Version: platform = Windows arch =

Percentile function
Is there an R function that inputs a value and a vector, and returns the percentile corresponding to the value? Something like pvalue<-function(x,vector){mean(x>=vector)} but with interpolation. Given the above function, is there a way to do the following without the loop: for(i in 1:10) y[i] <- pvalue(x[i],vector) where x and y are numeric vectors of length 10? -- Art Salwin

Comments on Win95 R Distribution (PR#527)
Here are some comments generated by a new R user based on initial experiences with the tool. On-line help for tapply: The following appears "for to each (non-empty) group of values" It seems there's an extra preposition in this sentence. On-line help for cut: "break" should be "breaks" morley.data not available with the distribution. Would be helpful for

Non linear regression using Levenberg-Marquardt method
Hello, I want to fit some non linear models with the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm. It doesn''t seem to exist any function to do this in R ( well, maybe one does, but I''m a new user, and the only documentation I have is "An introduction to R"). I''d like to know if this function exists, maybe throught an additionnal package. I''d also like to know if if

warning with cut2 function
Dear r user, please find my attached sample of the dataset i? am using to create a crosstable and eventually plot a histogram from the output. I am using? the cut2 function to create bins, about 7 of them using the code after reading the data: cluster <- cut2(cross_val$value, g=7) I get the warning: Warning message: In min(xx[xx > upper]) : no non-missing arguments to min; returning Inf

Cutting vectors
I have one factor with say five levels (fact) of different size and a corresponding variable (var). I randomly generate five new levels (nfact ex. 2,2,1,5,4). What I would like to do is to extract the corresponding variable values into a new variable (nvar). I did try the following, why doesn't it work? nvar<-var[fact==nfact[ ]] Patrik Waldmann

If the server decision makers had not gone for a server designed by accountants but a server designed by engineers then you would not have this problem. Determining model parameters
This may be a begining question. If so, please bear with me. If I have some data that based on the historgram and other plots it "looks" like a beta distribution. Is there a function or functions within R to help me determine the model parameters for such a distirbution? Similarily for other "common" distirbutions, Poisson(lambda), Chi-Square(degrees of freedom, chi-square

Has many through join table issues

I have a directory of members, each member can belong to multiple categories. The category table references itself

samba & unix group permissions problems
Hi, I'm having permissions problems connecting to a share when the gid of the directory shared is not the primary group of the user connecting to it. Maybe I faced it the wrong way, but I did read (and at least thought I understood) the 'File, directory and share access controls' section of the howto [0]. My users have either one or another 'primary group' (the one set in

hist, lines, rug
Hello, I'm trying to plot a historgram with a density plot superimposed: hist(x, seq(-1, 1, by = 0.1), prob = T, col = "blue") lines(density(x, bw = 0.1)) rug(x) I don't want to add rug(x) but the histogram will not be plotted unless rug(x) is there. It does not work if the "hist" line alone is present. Can you help? Thanks, Kim [[alternative HTML version

standard errors in johansen test
Dear all, I have a question. How to get the standard errors of alpha and beta when using "ca.jo" to test cointergration? In the paper by Bernhard Pfaff and Kronberg im Taunus “VAR, SVAR and SVEC Models: Implementation Within R Package” pp.24-25. The standard errors are listed on the table 5 following the code: R> vecm.r1 <- cajorls(vecm, r = 1) I tried this in my Mac R, but

Samba and unix permissions mismatch
I have just managed to get my first Samba/LDAP PDC up and running. But I have one big security problem -- users logging in to the PDC using ssh can access all shares. User credentials, both for ssh login and for Samba access, are retrieved from the LDAP directory. All shares are stored in the /var/lib/samba directory. The directories permissions look like this: drwxrwx--- 2 root Domain
