Time for Usenet R Group?
I probably shouldn't suggest this, because I can't volunteer to implement
it. However, I bring it up in the hopes that if (1) others agree and (2)
the R core group think it a good idea that a suitable volunteer will come
forward.
I am finding that the flood of R email messages is becoming difficult to
deal with, even using filters, etc., in my email client. Would we be

Size of objects in the workspace
Is there an easy way (or any way) to determine the size of all the
objects in an R workspace. I know that "dim" will work on matrices,
"length" will work on lists, but what gives the size of a function?
After I have worked for a few days I often get confused about what is
what in the workspace, so I'm looking for something like "ls -l", to
point me toward

Unix R core dumps if $HOME is not set.
One of my colleagues was/is trying to run R via a WWW perl script. The way
our system is configured (and I have no control over this), he ends up
in a process where the HOME environment variable is not set. When he
tries to run R all he gets is a core dump.
A regular user can verify this by just unsetting the HOME variable and
trying to run R.
The problem is in the system.c file, in the

iproute2: gatewayed routes in ancillary tables
Hello all,
Tomas Bonnedahl and I recently corresponded about a rather odd behaviour
with routes in ancillary routing tables.
We both receive a "Network is unreachable" error when we try to add
gatewayed routes to ancillary tables and the main routing table does not
contain an entry for the gateway IP.
It seems that unless a route to the gateway IP exists in the main routing
table, I

PXELinux cannot load the config file
I have DHCP and TFTP on a Solaris machine, pxelinux.0 loads, but it
can't load the configuration file. The tftp server on Solaris tries to
send the file, but data transfers do not receive ACKs. Previous posts
to this list have indicated that the suspect was the PXE BIOS (ref

Sendmail Configuration Problem - 550 5.1.1 - User unknown Problem
Hi,
I'm having this Sendmail configuration problem and stuck. I've been doing googling/reading posts and none of the solutions matched my problem.
I'm doing some testing, and have been getting this 550 5.1.1 ....User unknown error when I send the email to my company's email address. When I send it to an external email address, such as yahoo, the message delivered successfully.

SPAM: Get Rich NOW!!
Hello root@inet.hkg.com,
It looks like someone, at your end, is leaking SPAM into the Samba list.
The apparent source of this SPAM is <inet.hkg.com> which, unbelieveably, is
a real address. They are then relay-raping the Singapore Network to get it
into this list.
After careful deliberation, I have conciously decided to forward this one
message into the samba lists. All future SPAM

Re: Apostrophes in Windows usernames (again)
I think I've narrowed down my problem, but I still don't know where to fix it. It appears that scanning the
users.map file strips out the apostrophes and the Windows ID never matches:

And route print?
Do you have any servers on the WAN? (or is everyone connecting to the
servers THROUGH the WAN?)
Can you see the samba machines at all in network neghborhood?
What happens when you type in the UNC of a samba server manually? (i.e.
\\SAMBASERVERNAME)
I hope I can help you, and I'm trying, but I'm not a samba guru.

MS Patch MS04-011 & Samba upgrade
If I have a Samba server that is part of a Windows 2000 domain and is not a domain controller (all of our
authentication goes against a Windows 2000 box), do I need to upgrade to 3.0.4/2.2.9? What is the interaction
between a Samba server that is part of a domain and the Windows client if all of the authentication is being
done against a Windows 2000 PDC?

Upgrade & directory permissions
I've just upgraded the version of Samba we're running from 2.2.2 to 3.0.2a and am seeing an issue with permissions on directories. Users can still map the shares that are set up, but cannot access the directories within those shares. This is also not consistent; it's not happening to all users. Our environment:
Samba 3.0.2a

model.matrix troubles with AlgDesign
Dear DevelopeRs,
in continuing with my suite of packages on experimental design, I am stuck
with an issue that appears to be related to package AlgDesign - I have tried
to get it solved by Bob Wheeler, but he seems to be stuck as well.
Whenever AlgDesign is loaded, some of my code does not work any more. For
example, in a fresh R session:
require(DoE.base)
fac.design(nlevels=c(2,6,2))

Re: Apostrophes in Windows usernames (again)
It's very possible. I've put the suggested changes in place and recompiled on a test box, but my user is out of the office today and can't test it so I'll have to wait for hte weekend to pass. Thenks for the info.
