cant restore .Rdata
Hi Folks, I loaded a couple of quite large data sets into an R session and then quit (after saving the image). Now I get: Error: a read error occured Fatal error: unable to restore saved data (remove .RData or increase memory) after trying to start my R session using something like: R --vsize XXX --nsize 1000000 For any value of XXX (I went up to 300 or 400, which is as high as I could go.

OT: R for iPhone/iPad OS?
No, seriously: I've had more than one person at work wonder what math toolset could be loaded onto iOS. So, before Matlab, FreeMat, Mathematia, SciLab, Octave, or numpy (:-) ) produces a version for iPad, any chance someone is working on R for iPad?

math symbols in plot text: 2nd try
Ok, I think my first mail didn't get through so I'll try this again. Please disregard. I'm trying to use subscripts on plot text. The help files say this can be done and give several example. I'm trying to do: P_{2} (for example) and so I tried: text(5,2,expression(P_{2})) which doesn't work. There are no subscript examples. I recall someone telling me that latex-like

help files for libraries that aren't in the defaults library tree
Hello, I created a library for a bunch of functions that I use frequently so that I dont have to carry duplicate copies around to wherever I fire up an R sesssion. However, I have problems locating the help files for those functions. Here are some details. I created the library "myR" and installed this in /home/royle/R using: R INSTALL -l /home/royle/R /home/royle/Rpackages/myR

New version of benchmark comparing R with other software
Hello, Thanks to Douglas Bates, there is now a new benchmark suite (version 2.3) which is compatible with R 1.9.0 and the recent Matrix library (0.8-1 or above). You find it at http://www.sciviews.org/other/benchmark.htm. It compares R 1.9.0 under Windows with: S-PLUS 6.5, Matlab 6.0, O-Matrix 5.6, Octave 2.1.42, Scilab 2.7 and Ox 3.30. In short, R in its version 1.9.0 and with the new Matrix

How does R compares for speed?
Hi, For those who are interested, I have update my R benchmark (to version 1.5.0) and also to Splus 6. They are available at: http://www.sciviews.org/other/benchmark.htm. A comparison is made between Matlab (5.3 & 6), R 1.5.0, Splus 6 rel 2, O-Matrix 5.1, Octave 2.1.31, Scilab 2.6, Rlab 2.1 and OX 3.00 under Windows 2000 pro. Overall, R is not the fastest package, but it is one of the

help with "attach"
Hello, I've been migrating my computing to R and have not had any major problems running old Splus programs in R. However, the one thing I am missing is the ability to attach directories full of general utility functions from whereever I happen to fire up an R session. As a consequence, I find myself making many duplicate copies of these little general purpose functions by cutting and

Re: follow-up
.RData files are *not* machine-independent! Thus, it doesn't mean the file is corrupted if it won't load on another machine. If the work in the file is quite valuable, you may wish to send email to r-devel at stat.math.ethz.ch where the R hackers hang out. [I used to hang out there, but have been trying to work on my dissertation instead! The patch I gave was one I needed to load my

Cannot install Matlab 5.3 R11
Hi everybody: Thanks for reading. I'm a Linux Debian Lenny user. I'm trying to install Matlab 5.3 R11 through wine-1.0.1-174-gc4039bd. The SETUP.EXE runs correctly. The problem is when I enter the PLP (Personal License Password) required. I'm sure that the PLP is correct, but "matlab says not". The message is: "The PLP you have entered is incorrect. Check your PLP

GUIs (for teaching)
Sorry for entering late in the thread, but I was absent last week. I am developping an alternate GUI for R (and also Splus, Octave, Scilab, Matlab, Ox & Mathematica). The project started 3 years ago, but it is progressing slowly, since I am currently the only developer on the project and had to do it during my extra time. Now, it is going a little faster because I got some time and money

CentOs 4.X and APF firewall issues
Hi, We have 7 Dell 2850 servers with dual xeon 3 gig processors running the APF firewall version 0.9.6 http://rfxnetworks.com/apf.php They run fine for a day or two, then suddenly lock out all incoming connections, other than the backend IP, sometimes restarting the firewall resolves this, but occasionally we may have to leave it 10 mins or so before restarting where it will actually
