Can't install "e1071"
I observed the same behavior as Edward this morning with R-1.2.2 on Red Hat Linux 7.0. There appears to be a problem with the library in netpbm-9.5-5, even after hunting down the missing shhopt.h that pbmplus.h is looking for. I worked around the problem by compiling e1071 without pbm support (moved pbm.c to pbm.c.bak). Matt Matthew R. Nelson, Ph.D. Director, Information Systems Esperion

RMagick=bad, ???=good
I know that Zed has made mention of the fact that using RMagick with mongrel and rails is a bad thing. I''m currently using FlexImage (which in turn uses RMagick) on my application and really haven''t had too many problems. We get a restart for memory usage every 8-10 hours on one mongrel of twelve running, but I''m not sure if that''s an RMagick issue. Either way,

yum install netpbm - where?
I'm a noob with CentOS so I appreciate your valuable time and patience with my silly questions. Hopefully, I won't be a noob much longer :-) I'm using CentOS 4.4 and Plesk 8.1 on my Apache web server. I installed netPBM via yum: # yum install netpbm-devel.i386 # yum install netpbm-progs I saw no errors, and when I run "yum list installed" I see the packages. The problem

NetPBM
Greetings, I am setting up a CentOS+BlueQuartz server, replacing my Cobalt machine. On my Cobalt I had installed a set of pre-made binary's for netpbm. Using "yum search", I found and installed "netpbm.i386" but I am at a loss as to how to use the resulting libraries from my php scripts etc.? Do I need to install the netpbm-progs.i386 and netpbm-devel.i386 also?? -

PICT output?
hi, all. I use R on a unix (linux) box and am quite happy with it. However, sometimes I need to create a graph that needs to be used with Microsoft Word or Powerpoint (ug). I can create a png or jpeg format picture, but the text look pretty crummy because jpeg is bitmapped. I can also create a PS/EPS version (my preference), but then it doesn't display properly in word or powerpoint (but it

e1071 and netpbm
Having compiled and successfully installed e1071 on a previous machine (and run under 0.62.4) I want to compile it on a new machine to run under 0.63.3 but the loader can't find netpbm - both machined are RH5.2 Linux installations. I have some quite old netpbm's on a CD but none more recent and I certainly didn't install them on my old machine. I can't locate or rpm -q or rpm

Plotting using image files
This is a strange request, but I want to build a scatterplot using different image files (jpegs, gif, etc.) as the plot symbols. I have thought about setting this up using a very large layout matrix, but I thought someone might have a better approach. Furthermore, is there any way to have R paste an image file into a specific coordinate within a scatterplot? Thanks in advance, Mike Mike

SERIOUSLY OT STREAM EDITING IMAGES
Hi All, I have been Googling my head off but cannot find a method to stream edit all the images in a directory and to resize them. I have a large number of images of up to 3GB in size that I want to put in albums on a website, but before I do this I need to resize them to a more realistic configuration. I know how to do this manually with the GIMP but it becomes tedious for more than a few

fnmatch, getopt_long for module-init-tools
Halo, fnmatch() and getopt_long are necessary to compile module-init-tools with klibc out of the box. Would you consider accepting patches to implement those 2 functions? Can we use the bsd libc functions? is the lisence acceptable to you? .bill

R-beta: PostScript tick marks in 62.1
R-users/developers, I am loosing tick marks that I add to a plot with axis() when plotting to the postscript device. They show up fine on the x11 device, and work with the postscript device when the default tickmarks are used (those added by plot()). I am using R-62.1 from the RedHat5.0 rpm's on i86 Linux. Do later snapshots correct this, or is this a running bug in R awaiting the

Missing functions in package e1071(Win*)
Hi! After unziping the CRAN file e1071.zip on my Win95 library directory, I start R and type >library(e1071) After that, help commands of the e1071 functions work (i.e., help(read.pnm), BUT some functions themselves are not available: > read.pnm Error: Object "read.pnm" not found I've looked at the file library/R/e1071 with an ascii editor and it seems like the functions
