HABTM relations
Hi,
I have 3 tables with HABTM relation.
USERS -> QUOTE_TO_USER <- QUOTES
Table QUOTE_TO_USER has 3 attributes: quote_id, user_id, component.
I have a form where I can tie multiple users to QUOTE. This is easy one,
thru "user_ids" (@quote[:user_ids] = @params[:quote][:user_ids]).
In this form I have all users and I just check those I want to tie to
this quote, however

habtm and :uniq
Hi
I wonder what the state of this ticket is:
http://dev.rubyonrails.org/ticket/2019
Does anyone have information regarding whether there are plans to fix
this behaviour? It seems strange to me to force uniqueness in Ruby
(i.e. application code) but not in the database.
For example, in activerecord/lib/active_record/associations/
has_and_belongs_to_many_association.rb there is a line

uniq -c
Is there an R analog of the Unix command uniq -c:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uniq
Given an array x, uniq -c replaces each contiguous subsequence of
identical numbers with a tuple (count, number). E.g.

Problem with has_many :through, :uniq => true with polymorph
Didn''t have quite enough space to describe it there...basically i''m
having a problem with the :uniq option in my tags.
I''m using acts_as_taggable_on_steroid which adds these associations to
my Resource class:
Resource
has_many :taggings, :as => :taggable, :dependent => :destroy, :include
=> :tag
has_many :tags, :through => :taggings, :uniq => true

Getting the through items from a has_many :through :uniq relationship
Getting the through items from a has_many :through :uniq relationship
In a nutshell, I have been using the has_many :through :uniq
relationship, and I want a DRY way to list the join model objects.
Currently, my objects include taxon objects, toxin objects,
data_object objects, and taxon_toxin_citation objects ("citation" is
another word for data_object). A taxon has many data objects,

Patch 10463: has_many through using uniq does not honor order
Hi,
I''ve just submitted a patch for ActiveRecord;
http://dev.rubyonrails.org/ticket/10463
The patch includes new fixtures because I could not find a applicable
combination among the existing fixtures. I hope that''s okee.
Please +1 or comment it.
Thanks,
Remco

expire plugin: columns not uniq
Hello list,
My dovecot setup have expire plugin enabled. It is working fine: new records added to database(sqlite), expire-tool successfully expunges old mail, but when expire-tool try to update database record for processed user, I get error in logs:
root at mail dovecot 0:0 # /usr/sbin/dovecot --exec-mail ext /usr/libexec/dovecot/expire-tool.sh --test

Optimizing grep, sort, uniq for speed
This snippet of code pulls an array of hostnames from some log files.
It has to parse around 3GB of log files, so I'm keen on making it as
efficient as possible. Can you think of any way to optimize this to
run faster?
HOSTS=()
for host in $(grep -h -o "[-\.0-9a-z][-\.0-9a-z]*.com" ${TMPDIR}/* |
sort | uniq); do
HOSTS+=("$host")

HABTM - how to insert join row when associated rows exist
I have successfully used HABTM to create a many-to-one-to-many set of
rows in one step. Now, if two objects I want to associate already exist,
how do I create the join row? The Agile book mentions the
''push_with_attributes'' method. The text says this method is useful for
adding additional attributes to the join row (in the example a ''read_at''
timestamp). I

How to retrieve attributes from HABTM?
We have tables Users and Communities linked by has_an_belongs_to_many.
The join table Communities_Users has additional fields [ is_active,
is_blocked, join_date] etc. These are populated using
@user.push_with_attributes(:is_active => true,...).
Later on how do we update or retrieve the attributes in the link table
for a given user or a community with doing it explicitly using SQL?
Thanks,

Is HABTM Dying?
For a while, I''ve been getting that HMT is replacing HABTM. It appears that
HMT can do all of what HABTM can do and more. The question is: Should I stop
using HABTM? Let''s take a simple case:
A case has many categories
For a given category, there are certain valid statuses

has_many with :uniq not working for me
Hi all,
I have a relationship (no really!)

end
class RiskFactor < ActiveRecord::Base
belongs_to :risk_matrix

habtm and insert_sql
Briefly, I want to create an :insert_sql attribute for
a has_and_belongs_to_many relationship, and then add items to that
relationship using push_with_attributes. Is that possible?
Less briefly:
I have a legacy postgresql database where one of the join tables has an
ID column, so I had to set up the association with a custom :finder_sql
attribute, as follows:
class Topic <

Updating Attributes in a HABTM Join Table
Is there a way to update attributes in a HABTM join table? Right now
I am deleting the join and then recreating it with new attributes.
I have a table "categories" and another table "items". They are both
HABTM with the join table "categories_items" between them. If an item
is joined to a category once, no problem, we create the join. But if
an item is

has_many :through does it support collection_singular_ids ?
Good evening list members,
I have the following model:
class Author < ActiveRecord::Base
has_many :authorships
has_many :books, :through => : authorships
end
Should I be able to do the following?
Author.find(:first).book_ids = [1,2,3]
I ask, because it doesn''t. The docs state that it should, but it
doesn''t specialise in the case of a :through

Self-referencial habtm relationship
Heyo!
I am setting up a self-referencial habtm relationship with the users
of my app. I am using Chad Fowler''s "Rails Recipes" to get me started,
and everything works great with the join table "people_friends". I add
friends by doing somebody.friends << somebodyelse. However, with my
app, there is an approval process so my join table has columns

habtm on an array (or object.habtm.habtm)
Hi,
I have three Models: User, Group and File.
User habtm groups
and
Group habtm Files
How can I find all files that a particular user has access to?
eg user.groups.files ?
As user.groups returns an array, the above doesn''t work.
Id like to find the files for all groups in that array, without adding
any code to the User model.
Thanks in advance

uniq -c
I need an analogue of "uniq -c" for a data frame.
xtabs(), although dog slow, would have footed the bill nicely:

> x <- data.frame(a=1:32,b=1:32,c=1:32,d=1:32,e=1:32)
> system.time(subset(as.data.frame(xtabs( ~. , x )), Freq != 0 ))
user system elapsed

HABTM: deleting records based on attributes
Hello All,
I am new to ROR, and can''t seem to get HABTM to cooperate entirely...
however I might be abusing it! Before I try a different strategy I
thought I''d ask here and see if I''m missing something simple.
So say Projects and Companies are related. Projects can have multiple
Companies, and Companies can be on multiple Projects. But, the same
Company can also
