Future directions of R for Windows?
Now rw0640 is released, we have achieved our main goal of being able to build easily new versions from the Unix sources, and the R functionality is as complete a copy as we can achieve easily. We are now thinking of possible enhancements, and would like your comments on the following ideas. o Use a standard MDI interface like MS Office's, say. Would you prefer an MDI interface

R-0640 Windows
From: "Heberto Ghezzo" <heberto at MEAKINS.Lan.McGill.CA> Please be patient: rw0640 was only released very late on Monday, and this is not my primary occupation! In some cases you _need_ the versions of pre-built packages for rw0640: there is no version of sm for rw0640 there, yet. I have one working, but not yet fully tested. (I put one up briefly but removed it pending testing

Problems running 'R' on Windows-2000
I run R 1.3.1 on Win 2000 Pro and I don't have any problems. I don't use the --vanilla switch. my Rprofile is completly commented out(This is the way it came). Here is a copy of my Rconsole(I made no changes to it): # Optional parameters for the console and the pager # The system-wide copy is in rwxxxx/etc. # A user copy can be installed in `R_USER'. ## Style # This can be

Re: Future directions for R for Windows
Thank you for all the valuable feedback so far. I will try to produce a summary of views and suggestions early next week, so there is plenty of time for more views. There is a clear polarization between those who like Windows, and those who use it under duress! Fine: there does not need to be just one version. -- Brian D. RODBC 1.2-6 on CRAN, future directions
Version 1.2.6 of RODBC is now on CRAN. This has a number of bug fixes and many workarounds for ODBC driver quirks--I've set up further testbeds for SQL Server 2008, Oracle and DB2. More visibly, the documentation has been expanded in several ways, in particular in collecting together advice on using 'schemas' and 'catalogs' in the ?RODBC overview. There is also a test

(PR#7277) Re: strange windows behaviour after changing
I can reproduce this in MDI. Another clue is that as the pager for ?merge is opened, the font in the console changes. The console is still working: commands you type in it are accepted. So the issue appears to be that the font in use has been changed incorrectly (and it seems that the C code thinks it has been changed in the preferences dialog). creating help files
Dear R-help, I'm trying to create a help file for a data set. The existing help files tell me I should use the prompt(data.set) command which creates an editable file, and then move the file to the appropriate directory. This is the output > prompt(charac) created file named charac.Rd in the current directory. Edit the file and move it to the appropriate directory,

Error handling
Dear R-Help, I am trying to run the following: apply(Data,1, fit-non-linear-curve) where fit-non-linear-curve() is a bootstrapping procedure that uses the nls() function. Unsuprisingly there are some lines in the Data for which the nls() procedure fails, probably due to bad starting values. How do I make R just give up on that particular line of Data and carry on? I am using R 0.99 on

R-0.64 versions of packages
Versions of KernSmooth VR5.3pl037 boot gee rpart sm (delete src/Makefile: I'll get the version on CRAN changed) tree for R-0.64 are now on CRAN. Please note that spatial (in the VR bundle) and sm really do need 0.64 as we use the platform-independent file handling, and sm uses chull. This will be the last version of the VR5.x software for the second edition, as a new more `R

Borland Database Engine related installer issue (Portal GT-D)
I am attempting to install the Portal GT-D mud client (www.gameaxle.com) on top of wine-0.9.6-1.fc4 which I then reconfigured using winetools-0.9-3jo after failing to install MS Office XP Pro (which I never did get to work either, but I found some references saying that it wasn't likely to). IE6 installed and runs for what it is worth. I run the setup program in the style the wine tools use

Hello, I just tried the rw0640 version for Windows95. If I type link.html.help() a 1: appears. Does anyone knows what to type in after that, it seems that some input is required? basic question about lm summaries
I'm very new to R and I'm having trouble doing something that should be very simple (so I'm probably missing something quite obvious). When I run > lm(data$CRIME~data$INCOME+data$HOUSING) I get the correct coefficients. However, when I try to get anything else out of this I get a message about a missing argument, e.g.: >
