compilation failed for package
Hello, I am new to R on Linux (and to LINUX), running a 1.9.1 on a Linux MDK10.0. When updating or installing different packages, I get messages like this (under), the package doesn't install. Can anyone help me? I know this is all to little information, but I don't know were to start. I think there is something wrong in how or were the C++ or fortran compilator is installed?? Thanks, Geir

Xapian ported to WebAssembly for use in web browser
Hi all, First off, apologies if this list is not the correct place for this message. Although we have used Xapian with our email services for a long time (over 10 years) we haven't had the opportunity to contribute or participate in the Xapian community until now. We might therefore not be entirely familiar with acceptable protocol here, but we thought others might be interested in a new

96k/24-bit BWF encoding
Hi, I am attempting to use flac to encode 96k/24-bit broadcast wav (BWF) files. BWFs are wav files with some extra meta-data chunks, and is the favoured archival format for many institutions around the world. These files are encoded successfully by flac, however the resulting flac file is not playable on all flac players - it plays successfully in foobar2000 but is silent in winamp, and when

wav to flac corruption
I have exactly the same problem. I encoded a BWF file to flac and then then decoded back to wav, using --keep-foreign-metadata, and I ended up with a bit-perfect copy of the original BWF. So I was fairly confident that the flac encoding is working correctly, the problem definitely appears to be with the flac players. Unfortunately it seems that the majority of flac players cannot play 24bit

density estimates for fixed points
Problem: Based on a n x 2 data matrix i want a kernel estimate of the bivariate density. However, i also wish to specify wich points the density should be calculated at. I can offcourse just write the full kernel density estimate as a R-code, but surely there must already exist some package for this operation? The package density(), seems to create a new matrix (depending on n), where the

wav to flac corruption
Hello, I'm attempting to convert fairly large WAV files (90 - 800 MB each) using flac but the files do not work after the encoding. (The play fine in wav format) Command I'm using: flac --verify -8 file.wav Attempting to run the file with either flac123 or the default player for Ubuntu (Movie Player?) results in the extremely terse messages: Default Player: "An Error Occurred:

wav to flac corruption
Thank you for the reply! I know that my system can play flac files, I've played others I've managed to convert using both of those programs. I'm only running into difficulty when it comes to these large WAV files. By "Does not work" I mean that they do not play, and instead I receive the errors I mentioned in my original post. I wasn't actually intending to use

Looking for users of --keep-foreign-metadata
Hi all, Currently I'm looking for users of the --keep-foreign-metadata feature of FLAC. There has been some improvement of this feature in FLAC 1.4.0. Since 2007 there has been a warning in FLAC that --keep-foreign-metadata is a new feature. I think removal of this warning is long overdue, but there are still some issues surrounding it. So, if there are users of this feature on the mailing

wav to flac corruption
So some research and experimentation I think I found the problem, but I'm not sure how to go about fixing it. If I import one of the wav files into Audacity then export them as "16 bit PCM" then they encode to flac and play fine. The files bitrates are currently at 24. If I export them from audacity as a 24 or 32 (anything higher than 16), flac fails on me. With a bitrate of 24, the

Solving a system of nonlinear equations involving weighted parameters
Hi, I'm trying to solve the following system of nonlinear equations P1 - F2 = x[1] + (1/2) * x[3] * x[1]^2 P2 - F2 = x[2] + (1/2) * x [3] * x[2]^2 F1 - F2 = -(1/2) * x[1] - (1/2) * x[2] + (1/8) * x [3] * (x[1] + x[2])^2 B1 - F2 = (1/4) * x[1] - (1/4) * x[2] + (1/16) * x[3] * (x[1] - x[2])^2 B2 - F2 = (1/4) * x[1] + (1/4) * x[2] + (1/16) * x[3] * (x[1]

GPO's
I am excited about the latest samba 3.0 release with AD support but have some questions. For this to be a viable alternative I really NEED GPO's or equivalent functionality. I am not thrilled about using LGPO's... I did see a thread on this list regarding GPO's but it seemed to be mostly directed toward working around this by using LGPO's and using a new package management system

IP Address permissions per share
I've googled and googled for an answer to this but all I can find is ip specific global permissions for samba. What I want to do is only allow specific ip addresses access to certain shares in my config. Is this possible? I know I could do user permissions to shares but I want to lock it down per ip address. Thanks, Ed

lmer, mcmcsamp, coda, HPDinterval
Hi, I've got a linear mixed model created using lmer: A6mlm <- lmer(Score ~ division + (1|school), data=Age6m) (To those of you to whom this model looks familiar, thanks for your patience with this & my other questions.) Anyway, I was trying this to look at the significance of my fixed effects: A6post <- mcmcsamp(A6mlm, 50000) library(coda) HPDinterval(A6post) ..but I got this

R, Coda, and OpenBUGS
Hi All, I am trying to figure out how to use R-Coda with the output from OpenBugs. I have installed and loaded the packages BRugs and R2WinBUGS. I have successfully run a simple Bayes model in WinBUGS using R2WinBUGS' "bugs" and have used "read.bugs" to build the coda object. I can successfully switch to OpenBugs and run the same model and get the basic summary
