ruby column at linux Journal
Better Late Than *Reeeally* Late: Last week''s Ruby column was posted at Linux Journal last night. There appears to be a bit of editorial flux there right now, so markup and scheduling are all a bit weird, but I hope to get things straightened out in time for next weeks column. In addition to news from around the Ruby world, I''ve included a quick overview of the rubyGems and

Wish/suggestion: add output of citation() to package "manuals" (PR#9009)
Dear R core, influenced by recent panel discussion in Vienna I think that it would be nice to add package specific output of citation() function to package reference manuals. I think that apropriate place would be just after fields from DESCRIPTION file. This will be OK for CRAN, but not for locally installed packages as there is not reference manual there (at least on my linux box) - why is this

Hi, I need to italicize the journal in a citation but have thus far failed. How can I make 'Journal of Something' below italic but leave the rest plain? mtext( "See Author1 and Author2 (2007) , \"Title\", Journal of Something , pp. 1-50.", side = 3, outer = T, line=-0.75, cex = 0.7, at= 0.04, adj = 0, font = 1, family = "Times") Thanks -- View this

[LLVMdev] The OCaml Journal: first article on LLVM
The OCaml Journal just published its first article on LLVM. This article describes the basic use of LLVM for static and JIT compilation from OCaml programs, including passing data from OCaml to run-time generated code and the compilation of non-trivial expression trees (including control flow constructs). The OCaml Journal is available here:

[LLVMdev] OCaml Journal article: Building a Virtual Machine with LLVM
I'd love to read this article, but I can't justify paying to register. Will it become a 'freely available' article at any point soon? [LLVMdev] OCaml Journal article: Building a Virtual Machine with LLVM
Following on from the success of our previous OCaml Journal articles covering LLVM, we have begun a series dedicated to the design and implementation of high-level languages using LLVM. In particular, these new articles are more pragmatic in nature and go beyond describing working compilers to also discuss testing, debugging and the performance of LLVM-based compilers. The first article in

Need suggestions for choice of print services for Samba
I've installed Red Hat 7.3 (2.4.18-3) with Samba 2.2.3a as a standard install. I can access Samba (running as a workgroup server) from several Win clients. The Samba server is going to act as a very simple file and print server for about 10-20 users with no complex authentication or features. Can I get suggestions on which Linux print server I should run. The office has two HP Laser Jets

External Journal scenario - good idea?
Hello everyone, I've just recently joined the ext3-users list. I spent much of the weekend browsing over list archives and other tidbits I could find on the net, regarding using an external journal, and running in data=journal mode. From what I have seen looking around at what other folks are doing, data=journal with an external journal may be able to help our problem here. If I

voip-info.org DNS seems broken
For the last few days I can not resolve voip-info.org from many DNS servers. It does resolve with some DNS servers but I suspect it may be related more to caching. Possible bug - delete complains about parent directory in new version
I have what I believe to be a bug in the behavior of the current (2.6.4) version of rsync. While trying to upgrade from version 2.5.2 to the current version (for security concerns), I noticed the following difference in behavior between the two versions which is preventing the upgrade: If you have a directory tree on the target such as the following: dir/pdf/file1.pdf dir/pdf/file2.pdf

Suggestion for libvorbisfile: scaling
I've been experimenting with the ideas of Replay Gain[1] and find that ogg123 doesn't have a way of specifying the scaling applied to replayed samples (like -f in mpg123). Looking at libvorbisfile, I see no function exactly matching this possibly desirable behaviour. ov_read() scales by either 128 (byte output) or 32768 (word output), but there's nothing in between. ov_read_float()
