RNG in R and Splus 3.4 Prof. Ripley asked the details of the example. We were doing parametric bootstrap, so it is similar to simulation. Anyway here is the details. We start with a sample of 19 positive numbers. We know the sample is from truncated exp(0.3)...only the truncation point, theta, is unknown. In other words, the sample can be generated from something like x1 <- rexp(100,

Hi, I have recently upgraded hardware and now have a run-time error with R62.3 when I have built it from scratch with EGCS 1.1 (Guido's original binaries run OK). (333MHzK2, 64MBRam, 1.5GBHD, Win95b). Anyone any ideas ? R : Copyright 1998, The R Development Core Team Version 0.62.3 Beta (Sept 8, 1998) R is free software and comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY. Keyboard problem using RWin 1.7.0
I just installed RWin 1.7.0 on an Intel box running Win2000 Pro. If I try to paste from the clipboard to the console command line, the command(s) are executed, but the console then stops responding to the keyboard. The only way I have found to continue is to use the mouse to shut down R. Typing in the console works just fine; commands are executed, command-line editing is ok, source-ing

R-beta: Guido's Port
I am having problems accessing sirio.stat.unipd.it/pub/R so can't get to his latest port (Win95, v62.3, Guido's port.) I am being denied access. This may be a local problem with our network here, but is anyone else having a problem? Is that site mirrored anywhere that I might be able to access? Thanks! Jeff jmorris at cldx.com

win3.1 in wine & suse8.1
I'm new to wine and suse 8.1. I d/l the most current wine version for suse8.1 = 200303.. and rpmed it. I was surprised that wine was not updated with Yast but only directly with rpm.-F ... Does anybody you know why? I had tried it first and it seemed to work but rpm -q showed the same date! I now have doubts on all the other rpm patches/updates ... The win3.1 program is special purpose

R won't run under Win3.1 with win32s
I added win32s to Win 3.1 (actually Windowns for Workgroups). When I start R (from rsept31.zip) I get errno=120, the R window with R console come up briefly, print some info, and then quickly disappears. As I mentioned in another message, I'm able to run the same software in a Win-OS/2 session on a different computer. Why won't it run on an actual Windows machine?

R-beta: more R for Windows (rjune)
I've just put up (12:00 noon NZ) yet another tmp.zip with the fixes for Peter Dalgaards two bugs. Niels reports that the 3.51 problems are now different but not solved. I'm trying to locate a 3.51 machine and will post another fix. Can I get some feedback on how people want these "patches" delivered? Should I be numbering them and keeping the old patches? I don't want to

[Q] GET_DIM() crash on Windows only
I have the following contrived code in package format. On Solaris and Mac OS X, code runs just fine. On Windows, it crashes the R environment with the "Send Bug Report" dialog. I tried R 1.8.1 (Win2K) and R 1.9 (WinXP) binaries with the same result. PCs otherwise appear properly configured for creating R packages. Anything blatantly wrong? Suggestions? TIA Relevant files from package

Todays R-1.7.0-beta (see below) compiles fine on, but it doesn't pass make check-all on WinNT4.0, SP6. dotplot: character size of labels
Dear R users, using dotplot (R1.2.0, WinNT4.0), I am trying to change the character size of the labels of the points: > # example > data(VADeaths) > dotplot(VADeaths, main = "Death Rates in Virginia - 1940") > # I'd like to have smaller character size of the labels (for age and population groups) > ?dotplot > # for argument "cex", this says:
