text() with large cex parameter crashes X11() (PR#553)
Trying to use text() with very large cex parameter crashes
R when using the X11() device
X11()
plot(1,1,type="n")
text(1,1,"foo", cex=10)
This also crashes R
points(1,1,pch="A", cex=10)
presumably because we are trying to load a font that doesn't
exist, but I haven't looked into it.

R-beta: R has underflows on sparc-redhat-linux
Hi --
I'm trying to package R for inclusion on some upcoming Red Hat
Powertools distribution. I have started with the 0.61 version
packaged by Martyn Plummer <plummer at iarc.fr> (Thanks Martyn!)
and have upgraded to 0.62-2. I have succeeded in running R demo's
on i386-redhat-linux-gnu, and now I am also trying to get the
alpha and sparc versions working.

Matrices given to pt? [was: [R] for loops and counters]
Hi, people.
I was a bit intrigued by the message quoted below. Indeed, if pt() is
given a matrix, it returns a matrix. Should this feature be documented?
?pt speaks about "a vector of quantiles", and says nothing about the
type of what it returns.
The same might presumably apply to other distribution-related functions.

R-beta: PostScript tick marks in 62.1
R-users/developers,
I am loosing tick marks that I add to a plot with axis() when plotting
to the postscript device. They show up fine on the x11 device, and work
with the postscript device when the default tickmarks are used (those
added by plot()).
I am using R-62.1 from the RedHat5.0 rpm's on i86 Linux.
Do later snapshots correct this, or is this a running bug in R awaiting

Dear Martyn,
Thank you so much for your suggestion. Can I install R by rpm WITHOUT Internet? This Linux server cannot connect to web.

R-0.90.1 is released
I've rolled up R-0.90.1.tgz a moment ago.
You can get it from
ftp://cvs.r-project.org/pub/CRAN/src/base/R-0.90.1.tgz
or
http://cvs.r-project.org/pub/CRAN/src/base/R-0.90.1.tgz
or wait for it to be mirrored at a CRAN site near you within a day or two.
There's also a version split in two for floppies and a patch file if
you prefer that.
For the R Core Team,
Peter D.

par(mfrow = ) resets par('cex'), not reduces it (PR#13373)
help(par) says:
'mfcol, mfrow' ...
In a layout with exactly two rows and columns the base value of
'"cex"' is reduced by a factor of 0.83: if there are three or more
of either rows or columns, the reduction factor is 0.66.
In reality, par(mfrow =) *resets* par ('cex'), not reduces it as
documented. To reproduce:
par(cex = 0.5)
par(mfrow = c(2,
