Long string in crypting
I use a solution to crypt a string that I found using OpenSSL. But the crypted string becomes very long, too long for a varchar 255 to hold it. What can I do to make it shorter? Or should I just use text as column in the mysql db? public_key_file = ''lib/public.pem'' public_key = OpenSSL::PKey::RSA.new(File.read(public_key_file)) @encrypted_string =

Centos-specific Denyhosts Howto Anyone?
Hi, after reading the docs (no man page) and seeing a few example howtos, I see none for Centos specifically. I hereby offer to write this and even host it, and any other wiki-able howto you want, if you can school me on the first few steps relevant to how to link up the current rpmforge rpm for RHEL4-64. See, right now, the one for centos loads into the /usr/share/doc, which is an odd place

Asynchronous Encryption?
Hi Railers, I''m looking for something to do asynchronous encryption - where the encryption and decryption keys are different. This is for a scenario where I want to be able to store some information in the database that can only be decrypted in a different physical location using a secret private key (which will not be stored on the machine doing the encrypting). I''m trying

[LLVMdev] Still Trying to Build on MINGW
1. I got the tools to build. Yay! 2. I got past all the annoying trouble with not finding header files. Yay! Now I'm having problems with this: llvm-ar rc ./libgcc.a libgcc/./_muldi3.o <and-lots-more-.o-files...> C:\msys\1.0\home\llvm_home\install\bin\llvm-ar.exe: <invalid>: path is not valid I'm investigating this with the debugger and so far I've learned that

It is indeed a bug. The problem is that Path::isValid() will reject a string

Automatic blacklisting.
Hi, Is there any way to automatically block all traffic from IP''s that try more than X number of blocked ports for a preset amount of time? The log I get every morning seems to be getting bigger and bigger with port scans and attempts to access various services, it would be nice if these IP''s could be automatically blocked for like a week or two.. I wouldn''t want

Encrypt/ Decrypt password
Hi, I have user add/edit forms. While creating a user I tried the following method to encrypt password and stored the encrypted password in the table. def self.sha1(pass) Digest::SHA1.hexdigest("#{salt}--#{pass}--") end But when I try to edit the page I get the encrypted password in the password field instead of the decrypted password. Is there any method to decrypt

filter_parameter_logging
Hi, Is there a way to specify keys of a hash in params to filter_parameter_logging. For example, my payment form sends creditcard[:number] and creditcard[:type] in params and I filter these keys using filter_parameter_logging :number, :type. I don''t want :number and :type in other forms to be filtered. Is there a way to solve this? thanks, Ritesh

after_(read|find) callback?
I am pondering the possibility of encrypting/decrypting some fields in a SQLite backend on-the-fly. The point of the message is not security, I know that''s broken, but whether there''s a technique that provides on-the-fly save/read filters. Of course the solution would need to work transparently in joins, so user.posts.last.title would do the right thing if title

Help with encryption
So I have this key information that I got by generating a private and public key in VB, but it gave it to me in the form of a modulus and exponent in an XML file. Now, I need to encrypt some stuff in ruby using that info. On this site: http://blog.internautdesign.com/2007/11/2/ruby-openssl-rsa-public-key-from-modulus-and-exponent/comments/165, they explain how to do that, but clearly this info is

validates_associated bug?
i seem to be experiencing a bug where rails tells me that my organization object''s associated credit card is invalid (activerecord validation-wise invalid), when i know it to be valid. this happens only if i tell the organization to validate_associated :credit_card. i know the associated credit card is valid, because a) that credit_card object itself throws no validation errors, and b)

File Column Directory Add another layer
Quick Question. I understand how to change the default path to something other than public but what if I wanted to add another directory into the equation. I want to upload an image into the following structure: /public/image/userid/imageid/test.gif So basically I want to look up the userid in my users table and put all the images for that user in the same directory. So i have a one
