Sorting and getting occurrences of search in hit
Is there any way you could get the number of occurrences of the search in one hit? In a result I get the ferret_rank and ferret_score but not how many hits the search generated in the current record. I would also like to be able to sort after this when I search. /mattias -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Ignore apostrophes in words
Hi, I just started using ferret and the aaf plugin and it seems to work quite nicely. However, my fields are very short (titles of music) and I don''t think may users will be typing in apostrophes when they are looking for something. Right now, for a simple document such as "what i''ve done" I''d like it to be indexed as "what ive done" instead. Right

According to the following link: http://ferret.davebalmain.com/api/classes/Ferret/QueryParser.html :handle_parser_errors => true is enabled by default and seems to be in acts_as_ferret in class_methods.rb of the plugin. However, when I pass a special character as a query (e.g., !, -, <, >, etc) it throws an error and pukes. -- snip -- Error occured in src/q_parser.y:279 - yyerror

acts_as_ferret : cannot use a customized Analyzer (as indicated in the AdvancedUsageNotes)
Hi all, I cannot make aaf (rev. 220) use my custom analyzer, despite following the indications @ http://projects.jkraemer.net/acts_as_ferret/wiki/AdvancedUsage To pinpoint the problem, I created a model + a simple analyzer with 2 stop words : "fax" and "gsm". test 1 : model.rebuild_index + model.find_by_contents("fax") # fax is a stop word. => I get a

Is there a way to do incremental search?
Say the user first enters "ruby" for search and gets 1000 results. Then he can search "rails" just in the 1000 results just returned. The common scenario is some kind of advanced search. User can incrementally add criteria and the program will narrow the results step by step. I know that at least I can use all the criteria as a whole to do the searching, but this is a waste

Short words not indexed?
I noticed that if I have a field that contains something like "Institute for medicine", that if I search using nay of these queries: for *for* for~ Nothing shows up. If I search for either of the other two words, though, that term would show up in the result set. Does this indicate that short words like "for" are not indexed? Thanks! Jen

Ferret and non latin characters support
I''ve successfully installed ferret and acts_as_ferret and have no problem with utf-8 for accented characters. It returns correct results fot e.g. fran?ais. My problem is with non latin characters (Persian indeed). I have tested different locales with no success both on Debian and Mac. Any idea? custom sort routine
is it possible to write a custom sort routine for ferret? I use ferret right now to index all my products. One of the variables in these product documents is the product popularity, where 1 = best selling production, 2 = 2nd best, etc..
