using highlight from aaf
Hi,
I''m trying to use highlight ferret method with trunk aaf and 0.10.1
ferret.
In my search display I use:
Myindexedclass.ferret_index.searcher.highlight(@query, result_line.id,
:content)
* searcher is a protected method; how can I access to the searcher from
aaf ?
* is the doc id in aaf the same as my model id ?
* is the first param, query, the string query or the query object ?

concurrency / #search_each problem / segfault
Hello everyone,
I was stress-testing my application (running on Rails via FastCGI) by
letting two concurrent users (not human .. an app called ''siege'')
a) save an Article and b) search for all Articles.
I am searching via
Article.ferret_index.search_each( ..) do |doc_id,score|
doc = index[doc_id]
..
end
and writing via
Article.ferret_index <<

adding a custom filter to the query
Hi all,
I''m trying to figure out how to add a filter into a search. I''ve
created the filter, basically copying the location filter from
http://blog.tourb.us/archives/ferret-and-location-based-searches. But
when I try to call Index.search and pass the filter in a hash with the
key :filter, I get back that it is expecting type Data, and so I''m at
a loss to figure out

Thanks for your help in desperation!

The following script creates a search index and then searches it. I get
no results? Where am I going wrong?
Thanks.

require ''ferret''
include Ferret

field_infos = Ferret::Index::FieldInfos.new()
field_infos.add_field(:name, :store => :yes, :index => :yes)

More sorting problems with untokenized index
I''m having problems sorting on untokenized fields. I have one field that
sorts fine, but there are others that seem to sort on a different field.
Here''s the index description:
acts_as_ferret
:remote=>true,:fields=>{:name=>{:boost=>2},:name_for_sort=>{:index =>
:untokenized},
:city=>{:boost=>2}, :city_for_sort=>{:index=>:untokenized},

Memory concerns ferret 11.4.
Hi list,
We just built our own ferret drb server (mostly because we don''t do
an indexing from within rails).
The ferret drb server only handles index inserts and some deletes.
Usually we make batch inserts were we retrieve a couple of hundred or
thousands of documents from a database and then inserts them inte
ferret one by one.
We call flush every 50th file. We are very impressed

more specific queries via IndexReader
We would like to show a list of "most recently added terms", meaning,
the results of this query:
Resource.aaf_index.ferret_index.reader.terms(:summary)
BUT, only returning terms from a certain set of documents (in our
case, we are going to filter by creation data).
Is this possible?
Thanks,
John

The ferret logs
Hi.
We''ve had some problems with ferret not being able to load our classes
(stack trace below for the curious).
I nailed it down to a deployment issue, where an old instance of ferret
drb was running. I don''t understand the details quite yet, but the
result was the the old ferret was never shutdown during redeployment,
and attempts were made to start up a new one.
Anywho,

Effective search when knowing ID
Hi list,
I''m new to ferret and I wonder what is the best way to search if I
know one fields id and want to search on its content.
I have experimented with FilteredQuery but I don''t know if this is
the best way.
Eg.
index = Index::Index.new(:path => ''/tmp/all'')
@dbh = Database.instance.connect
result = @dbh.exec("SELECT pk_fulltext_id, fulltext_text

Query Objects vs. Query Strings
Hi ..
I tried to build some query objects to get some documents from my
index.. without success.. Is something wrong here?
q = Ferret::Search::BooleanQuery.new
q1 = Ferret::Search::TermQuery.new(:type, "movie")
q2 = Ferret::Search::TermQuery.new(:name, "Indiana")
q.add_query(q1, :should)
q.add_query(q2, :should)
Indexer.index.search_each(q) do |doc, score| puts doc end

Query question
I have an index in which I want different records to be accessible to
different users. I think I can do this by adding a "users" field to
each record in the index and narrow down my queries to only those
records matching the current user''s userid. I have the userids
separated by commas. What would be the right way to query for a
certain user? I have to make sure that I

counting occurences of words in the result set
Hello, I need to be able to count the occurences of certain terms in the
reults.
Currently my setup is Ferret 0.10.1 aaf bleeding edge.
results = VoObject.find_by_contents(query,:offset=>page, :limit=>
20,:sort => sort_fields)
I use results.total_hits for pagination. This all works really nicely.
However i need to be able to know how many occurences of certain
predefined terms occur

Confused about Search Results
Hi everyone,
I''m pretty new to Lucene and Ferret, so I feel that this is most likely
myself not completely understanding the correct way to do this. I haved
indexed ~2200 text files (of various sizes), and I am now running
searches on the index to get a feel for Lucene and Ferret.
In my first program, which is using Lucene I search for ''influenza'' and
get the

Query with special characters crashes under Windows XP
Hi,
Index queries with special characters (e.g. German Umlauts but also
other European ones) make the Ruby process run for quite a long time and
crash finally.
I''m using Rails on Windows XP with Ferret 0.11.4_mswin_32.
I could isolate the problem in the following simple controller action
(so there''s no web browser form field involved):
def test
index = Ferret::I.new

higlighting problem
Hi,
I''ve been having a problem getting highlighting to work with aaf.
I have a class defined as follows such:
class Link < ActiveRecord::Base
acts_as_ferret :fields => { :description => { :store => :yes } }
end
I get back the correct results when I do Link.find_by_contents, however,
I''d like to highlight them.
If I do something like iterate through the list of
