Finding DHCP IP of guest system
If I can log in to the guest through the console, I can of course find out
what IP DHCP has assigned it. If I configure a static IP I can of course
connect to the system there (if it runs services, the firewall allows it,
all the usual caveats).
Does there happen to be any way to determine from dom0 what IPs are
participating in the network and which guests they belong to? (I'm

Trouble getting a DHCP address when booting.
Hi.
I spawned a thread last week about the failure of bridged networking and
I have gotten a little further. Turns out that I _do_ have network
connectivity from inside the domains, but I cannot get the network to
come up when I boot. I have to login and start up the network manually.
E.g. after installing Debian Sarge according to the debootstrap method
outlined in the users manual, I created a

MS-Win7 kvm guest gets dhcp from host bridge
CentOS-6.5

MS-Windows v7proSP1
We have installed a MicroSoft Win7 system as a guest and have joined it to our
MS AD domain. The system runs and has internet access. However, the IPv4
address it obtains and the gateway it is assigned are both sourced from the
virtual machine host system and not from our AD DC DHCP server.
To clarify, the virbr0 IP address

two IP addresses on the same NIC: one via DHCP, one fixed
Hello listmates,
If I have a NIC on my CentOS 6.2 machine two which I want to assign to IP

do that? How do I do that?
Thanks.

ipconfig:About the length of 'options' field of DHCP packet
Hi,
I had the problem that 'ipconfig' as DHCP client in Debian-squeeze could not get
DHCP Offer reply from the built-in DHCP server of the cheap route that I have.
The name of the router is 'MegaBitGear TE4571E' which
I got at contract of ADSL Internet access service in 2009.
The router is not too old and can reply to other
DHCP clients like ISC-dhclient, WindowsXP and Vista.

UEFI PXE / split config / TFTP attempted to DHCP server, not TFTP server
All,
I realize this is not strictly a PXELINUX question. So I hope you'll
indulge me; hopefully some of these PXELINUX experts have seen this before.
And can tell me what I'm doing wrong. Or confirm my suspicions.
I have a test lab server at work. Split config. The network team manages
the DHCP servers, points to our TFTP server.
Test subnet has 3 DHCP pools. BIOS PXE, UEFI PXE and

grep ip address from KVM DHCP log
>
Hi,
I plan to use KVM internal network 'default' and grep dhcp log to figure
out the IP address that assigned to my VM.
I know I can configure static ip but I like to assign ip dynamically to
avoid mgmt cost.
Does anyone know where the dhcp log is? My KVM host is running Ubuntu
Raring (13.04). It does not have file /var/log/daemon.log as some online
doc mentioned.
Thanks,

KVM and DHCP
CentOS-6.5
We have a KVM guest running MS-WinV7pro. This guest is joined to an Active
Directory Domain. That domain provides DHCP to the members. The KVM guest
does not obtain its IP from the domain but from the local host's qemu
hypervisor instead.
Is there anyway to get around this and have the guest MS-Win OS get its DHCP
from the same place as the rest of the domain members?

Server w/ DHCP address incorrectly registers with WINS
I am sneaking Linux and Samba into my client's IT department (with the
cooperation of the IT manager) and we have a few issues getting the
system talking to the rest of the network.
The network we are inserting the system into uses WINS and does not
have DNS for local hostname resolution. The system is required to get
its IP address via DHCP. The system is running a vanilla install of

How does a linux DHCP machine inform DNS of its name and obtained address
I am using a number of DHCP devices on a network. Working fine with
CentOS 5 x86_64.
My question is now how do I tell the DNS (after I get my DHCP address)
about my devices
name and IP address so that others can find me by my machine name?
I thought that was an automatic thing - but it appears not.
Thanks,
Jerry

Hello New MAC / DHCP Request - How to spot the presents of a new MAC address...
Hi All,
How do I find out about new new DHCP connections as they appear?
I want to write a script that will do some stuff based on a new ip
request from a machine on my lan.
ie - new user connects to the lan, DHCP server on my Linux (debian)
gateway gives them an IP, my script is run automatically to change the
firewall rules and start recording their presents, or if it''s an unknown

Gene,
All good questions. Thanks for taking time to respond. You've given me
great leads to follow up w/ DHCP appliance consultant.

DHCP and DomUs: not working
I''m trying to get DHCP working with DomU clients. I don''t want to use
libvirtd. There''s a dhcpd on the machine and it works fine for all clients
in the network, but not for DomUs. If I set a static IP on the DomU all
networking for them is fine, so there''s no general networking problem.
I use the xen 3.2 packages for CentOS on CentOS 5.1.

can I check the mac address on DHCP from my command line
Hi,
I have an interesting problem. I want to be able to verify that my
hostname, ipaddress, and mac address are correct in the DNS/DHCP. I have
the values, how do I compare.
I am able to use NSLOOKUP for the hostname=ip confirmation
How do I do the ip addresss = mac address comparison
I tried arp and a few other things. Almost everything on google says
either to logon to DHCP (which I do

dhclient doing DISCOVER with bad IP checksum - bge
Sorry for the cross-post, but this could be either lists problem.
I have 2 boxes running 7-STABLE as of 20081130, both i386 SMP. One is
running ISC DHCPD 3.0.x from recent ports, and the other dhclient from
make world.
The server is refusing to answer the DISCOVER request, as it thinks the
IP checksum is wrong, which tcpdump also confirms. Other DHCP clients
are working fine on this network,

dhcp best practice
I have been wanting to allow our routers to continue to serve dhcp thinking
this would give us a safer fail environment. Now we are learning that our
routers can handle creating a whitelist of mac addresses to use for dhcp
leases. So we need to look at alternatives.
I am wondering how many samba AD DC's also run dhcp -- and if there is a
samba 'good practice' for managing dhcp. Yes, I

DHCP failover ... Some questions.
Hi,
I plan to reorganise our IP management and I'd like to implement a slave
DHCP server. Right now we assign IP addresses based on the
ethernetadress of a client 1:1.
The tutorial here [1] is simple and looks like the thing I need.
I do have a lot of subnetworks and my cisco router has an DHCP helper
address set. I know I'll have to add the second dhcp-server address.
My questions now

samba4 bind9_dlz and dhcp
Hai,

A bit off topic in the samba forum, but i thinks this is the best place to ask.

Im having?some troubles to get the dhcp server fully working with samba4.
I dont think this is a samba problem, but as i did say here maybe the best placy to ask..

It works, but not totaly. The strange thing is for example.
