Discover DHCP addresses
Is there is way on the command line of the host to determine the IP
address of a guest virtual machine? Perhaps a way to find out what
addresses have been assigned by the DHCP server on the host?
Thanks,

(KVM) How can I migrate VM in a non shared storage environment?
Hi,
I have a server running CentOS 5.5 with KVM capabilities. I need to migrate
all the VMs to another server with the exact same hardware specs. The
problem is it is running on individual harddisks, not shared storage. What
is the best way to migrate to minimise downtime?
Thanks!

KVM and shared disc...
Hi all
I have deploy some VM's with MS Windows 2008 R2.
I deploy it using virt-manager, on CentOS 6.
On the same host where I installed CentOS I have installed LIO-Target to, in
order to providing iSCSI storage to VM's, 'cause I need install Windows
Cluster failover here.
I was work with iSCSI initiator from inside each VM's but this pratice show
me very instable situations.

disk i/o benchmarking inside vm
Hi,
I'm having trouble benchmarking disk i/o in my vm's. The data I get seems
bogus.
I have two centos 6 guests which use a raw image as volume. Each volume is
stored on its own physical disk and both disks are the same model. The host
system is fedora 15 with the virt-preview repo enabled. The disks for the
guests use virtio and caching is set to none.
My problem is that I get very

Unable to use all the memory available
Hello:
As you can see from xm info below, we have almost 200GB of memory in our
server running CentOS 5.2. But, we can't seem to allocate all the memory.
For some reason, the total memory that can be allocated maxes out at 188.4
GB. None of the VMs has hit its own max-mem limit. Even when we set one of
the VM's memory so the total is above 188.4 GB, its memory allocation stops

Windows Xen VM's have high guest CPU usage and poor performance
Hello all,
I have a PowerEdge 2950 that I am using to host Windows XP VM's under
CentOS. I am experiencing poor performance in the Xen VM's. Any time I
try to do something, the CPU usage (as reported by the Windows task
manager) hits 100% for a few and then drops back down. This is causing
the VM's to run sluggish and be quite annoying to use. Example.. I

how to monitor each VM's traffic?
Hi all
Can someone please tell me how to monitor each VM's traffic on a CentOS 5.2
server, running either Xen or OpenVZ? I need to bill my users for the
traffic they use, and would like to have a traffic usage graph for each Xen
/ OpenVZ Virtual Machine on the server.
Thanx :)

KVM VM crash under I/O load (e1000 and virtio)
I'm pretty consistently getting crashed KVM VMs under network I/O load when
using the e1000 and virtio NIC models, with the follow message in dmesg:

domU reboot leaves VM crashing continually
Greetings,
I?m new to xen virtualization on CentOS, but I have been unable to find the
answer to this problem I?m experiencing.
My setup: AMD quad core (64bit), 8Gb ram. CentOS 5.3 dom0, CentOS 5.3
domU?s (paravirtualized).
Dom0 is set up with two NIC?s, the built-in and a PCI card, and I set up xen
bridging on both interfaces.
My domU?s seem to boot up fine, run fine, and

Shutdown windows-vm hangs
Hello
I have a problem with CentOS 5.4, kvm and libvirt.
Although my VM with Windows Server 2k3 supports ACPI the shutdown of the VM does not work.
Once a user is logged on, Windows sends an application popup ("Other people logged on ...") and wait for user-action.
The shutdown hangs up and the VM's will be terminated hard.
Does anyone know a way to resolve this problem?

change network settings of VM depending on logged in user(s)?
1guys,
I think it can be done via power management feature if PC idle a period of time, sleep it.
For your message, to disallow an user to have internet access that can be done via his account profile at local security from Microsoft product itself. Alternatively GPO policy at the AD. When he logs on to the username and password, his profile will also download to that PC.
Hope that help!

KVM online backup images
Hello to you all!
We are implementing here at the University KVM virtualization for our
servers and services and i was wondering if anyone try to automatically
backup images.
I am actually using logical volumes for the VM guests. All virtual
clients are installed in their LVM logical volume. We are already use
IBM TSM for backup as we used to when we had physical machines, ie

change network settings of VM depending on logged in user(s)?
I'm not a M$ expert, but I've seen enough GPO's to believe there is a way
to do it through Windows.

KVM: 'ÿ' character after starting a VM via virt-install
I'm unable to start a virtual machine with KVM.
I'm using Centos 5.4
I have installed all necessary rpms (to my knowledge), but as you can see
from the output (below), the system does not boot the CD-ROM. It just sits
there doing nothing:
# virt-install --prompt
Would you like to use KVM acceleration? (yes or no) yes

Easy method to set user-mode virtual memory space in Windows Vista and 7
I thought I'd share this with the list since it appears to provide a
quick fix to some memory problems, and I haven't see it discussed in
relation to R.
To reallocate virtual memory from kernel-mode to user-mode in 32-bit
Vista or Windows 7 one can use the increaseuserva boot option value.
See
