sqlinux weirdness
Every now and then I get an alert like this one. I have no clue what this "rear" subsystem is, or why madam would be trying to write to its log file. Can anyone enlighten me? thanks in advance! ------------------------- SELinux is preventing /usr/sbin/mdadm from write access on the file /var/log/rear/rear-fcshome.log.lockless. ***** Plugin restorecon (93.9 confidence) suggests

strange email from cron regarding "rear"
I don't understand what this means, I found it in root's email this morning: To log into the recovery system via ssh set up /root/.ssh/authorized_keys or specify SSH_ROOT_PASSWORD WARNING: /usr/lib/grub/x86_64-efi/moddep.lst not found, grub2-mkimage will likely fail. Best practice preparing for disk restoring system
I'd agree with you John. I'm trying to get away from Amanda's unpredictability and go back to using scripts to drive dump (for ext2/3/4) and xfsdump (for xfs). Is there any easy way to tell rear to include xfsdump and dump capability? If the commands are there then its trivial to restore data. What I've done in the past is before the nightly backup write a small file to the

What are KVM guest cores?
Hi All, What are guest cores in KVM? Are they fake, like everything else in the guest? Just another process running on the host emulating a core? Or are the guest cores actually connected directly to the physical cores on my motherboard? Many thanks, -T

Meaning of mapping[]
Hey everyone, I've added Ogg Opus support to my Adobe Premiere plug-in here: http://github.com/fnordware/AdobeOgg Now I'll add Opus support to me WebM plug-in too. I've got this Opus stuff mostly figured out, but I have a few questions. Here's one: What do the numbers in mapping mean? I see that opus.h refers to the Vorbis channel mapping order, so does mapping in Opus take

Installing 6.8 from DVD1.iso, changes
Downloaded 6.8 DVD1.iso, dd to stick. Went through same selections I have gone through since 6.2, only this time it got to the end and stated it couldn't find rear, which is under "backup client". OK, try it again without rear. This time it's yum-plugin-ovl from base (?). Then chrony, also in base (?). Then flightrecorder, libreswan, at least 2 of openmpi & co. and

iTunes?
Hi All, If you would please suffer a Fedora Code 13 question on a CentOS mailing list, I have a Linux customer with Fedora Code 13 who loves it but is about to dump it because he really, really wants iTunes. (He owns an iPod and an iPhone.) None of the Linux utilities quite work right and he wants to buy music from the iTunes store as well. Plus he wants to synchronize his contacts list. So, I

Audio weirdness on CentOS 6.2 with flash?
Hi List, I have an ASUS G73S laptop with our favorite OS installed and all up-to-date. Sound has always "just worked" When I use the Preferences>Sound app I can setup the hardware, input, output and was overall very impressed. One can check each speaker and the laptop has a front left and right and also has a bass speaker which seems to be connected to the left rear. The various

where is the machine name used?
Hi All, Just a bit of PDC confusion on my part. 1) I do not give machine names a password. Am I correct? 2) I am presuming that machine names are used to limit what machine user names can have access to to the samba server. If Foo has an smb username and computer A has a machine name, but computer B does not, then Foo can enter only through computer A. Am I correct? 3) If I am correct on #2
