How does KVM handle multiple cores?
Hi All,
How does KVM handle multiple cores. I have an x5650 with 6 real cores
that presents itself to my OS as 12 virtual cores (hyperthreading).
Does KVM see 6 or 12 cores.
And, can I tell KVM how many cores I want it to use?
Am I misunderstanding how KVM works?
What I am after is if my guest is 100% busy, I still
want some power left over for my host.
Many thanks,

Received Date vs Date Header
I am trying to figure out why my mail clients are not correctly showing
me the received date versus the date header date. I am using Dovecot
1.1B9. Here is a copy of the rawlog from Dovecot when I started up the
client. Is Dovecot supposed to be sending the received date and the
date header during this conversation?

I'd like to compile R with a BLAS but the question is whcih one.? Seems
like the only free ones are GotoBLAS which I'm not sure is being maintained
for newer CPUs and OpenBLAS for Loongson CPUs.? I saw a favorable report

KVM vs ESXi
Morning Everyone,
I'm busy doing a rebuild of my home server and am tossing between
VMware and KVM for this build. I already have experience with ESX, we
use it at work, but I'm debating trying out KVM for a while. The
server itself is a budget build using a Supermicro X8SAX board w/
i7-950 & 12GB RAM, LSI 3081 SAS RAID (1068e based), rolled into a
NorcoTek 16 Bay SAS case. Not fancy

Does WINS need to be populated or configured?
Hi All,
Now that I have winbind running and

in my smb.conf, am I missing something?
Like setting up WINS, configuring it,
populating it, etc.?
Can someone point me to documentation on
what to do (administrate) WINS?

iTunes?
Hi All,
If you would please suffer a Fedora Code 13 question on a CentOS mailing
list, I
have a Linux customer with Fedora Code 13 who loves it but is about to dump
it because he really, really wants iTunes. (He owns an iPod and an iPhone.)
None of the Linux utilities quite work right and he wants to buy music from
the iTunes store as well. Plus he wants to synchronize his contacts list.
So, I

psycho-acoustic model in ogg vorbis
I wonder what psycho-acoustic model is used in ogg vorbis.
Did they create their own model (this requires big listening tests) ?
Or is it something that was already there, like gpsycho ?

Experimental psycho-acoustic model
Hi everyone,
For those who like to play with experimental stuff, I've got something
new to test. If you compile with --enable-vorbis-psy , Speex uses a
variant of the Vorbis psycho-acoustic model to shape the coding noise.
So far, I've obtained a slight increase in quality, but I'm interested
in feedback from others. This still needs a lot of tuning and has
received only a minimal

Confused by "qemu-img convert"
Hi All,
Okay. Now I am confused.
I have a bunch of virtual machines running under Virtual Box 3.2.12.
I want to run them under KVM and drop Virtual Box from these
systems.
Supposedly "qemu-img convert" now supports direct conversion
from vdi to whatever KVM uses. So I fired up the man page and
got really confused. Then I fired up Google and got worse
confused.
Might I impose on

What is the purpose of "add user script"?
Hi All,
I am confused. In one of the examples of a PDC,
the following smb.conf parameter is given:
add user script = /usr/sbin/useradd -m -G users '%u'
If you have "passdb backend = tdbsam" and the way
to add users to "tdbsam" is "pdbedit -a -u username",
what is the purpose of the "add user script"?
I am thinking it is to add the user

Why is Ogg Vorbis better than mp3?
Hi!
Why is Ogg Vorbis better than mp3? Which basic technologies has Ogg Vorbis,
that f.ex. lame doesn't have? Ogg Vorbis has a different psycho model than
mp3, but what is the names of these models and what is the differences?
Which advantages have Ogg Vorbis, that cant be implemented in mp3/lame due
to compability reasons?
<p>Thanks in advance!
