glustefs as vmware datastore in production
Nice to read this. Any particular reason to *not* run the OS image in
glusterfs cluster?
Thanks

Hi,
I am using glusterfs 3.10.x for VMware ESXi 5.5 NFS DataStore.
Our Environment is
- 4 node supermicro server (each 50TB, NL SAS 4TB used, LSI 9260-8i)
- Totally 100TB service volume
- 10G Storage Network and Service

glustefs as vmware datastore in production
Sometimes os disk hang occured and re-mounted with ro in vm guest(centos6)
when storage was busy.
After install vmware plugin, increased block response timeout to 30 sec.
But os workload reponse time was not good.
I guess my system composed with 5400 rpm disks with raid6.
Overall storage performance is not good for multiple os images.
best regards.

Gluster+NFS as VM datastore for ESXi - issues
Hi all,
I've been trying out Gluster Platform, so some info will be from the management interface. If additional data from logs is required, please let me know which logfiles.
When using a Gluster NFS volume as a ESXi datastore, creation of a disk file (vmdk) takes a considerable amount of time (with unfsd using 10-50% cpu) and then crashes unfsd. A reboot of the system seems necessary to

glustefs as vmware datastore in production
Hi,
Does anyone have glusterfs as vmware datastore working in production in a real world case? How to serve the glusterfs cluster? As iscsi, NFS?
Thanks in advance

trying to kickstart a vm guest from my datastore
I have a new ESXi server (5.x), and trying to load some VM guests on there.
I have the guests configured, but when I try and boot from ISO image,
the graphics are so bad it is futile. No worries I normally use
kickstart anyways.
Because the ESXi (on the same network as my physical servers) cannot
talk to the PXE server. But works fine on the network (I can ssh/scp in
and out of the ESXi

NFS and unsafe migration
Hi all,
I have a question about NFS datastore and unsafe migration.
When migrating a virtual machine having a virtio disk in writeback cache
between two hosts sharing a single NFS datastore, I get the following error:
"Unsafe migration: Migration may lead to data corruption if disks use
cache != none or cache != directsync"
I understand why libvirt alerts for unsafe migration in

Libvirt not creating .vmdk file and .nvram files on vmware esx host
Hi,
I am currently using libvirt API(java api) for creating VMs in esxi host.
I am passing commands as follows:(trying from terminal)
virsh -c esx://192.168.0.144?no_verify=1
define /home/bm/eee.xml
Domain eee defined from /home/bm/eee.xml
I have attached the eee.xml file and the eee.vmx from the esxi datastore
with this mail.

Possible split-brain
Hi all,
I have 4 glusterd servers running a single glusterfs volume. The volume was created using the gluster command line, with no changes from default. The same machines all mount the volume using the native glusterfs client:
[root at localhost ~]# gluster volume create datastore replica 2 transport tcp 192.168.253.1:/glusterfs/primary 192.168.253.3:/glusterfs/secondary

Is it possible to make rsync VMware split .vmdk's aware?
Hi,
I am using rsync for my customers to have disaster recovery off-site
with files from a VMware Server (under Linux). All works very well, but
when I defragment the VM's (once a week) or Exchange defragments it's
datastore the disk layout changes offcourse and sometimes a lot.
What do I do:
- I am making a local copy with vmware-vdiskmanager to an USB
disk in the split

dsync: expunge from pop3 does not replicate
Yes, it should incoming mail to inbox, where replication was requested
(and mail was replicated succesfully, of course). After expunge via
POP3, replication was not called at all. (It doesn't happens on IMAP
connections, if I didn't mentioned in previous message)

[PATCH] ESX: Fix storage URL if storage has a snapshot
If an ESX guest has a snapshot, the path the libvirt driver gives us will look
like:
[yellow:storage1] RHEL4-X/RHEL4-X-000003.vmdk
instead of:
[yellow:storage1] RHEL4-X/RHEL4-X.vmdk
The current path mangling code does take this into account.
This change makes it use the current mechanism first, but try again after
removing a '-\d+' suffix if it gets a 404. Trying twice should make it

Multi Server Exim/Dovecot and NFS
In reading the Dovecot NFS WIKI entry:
http://wiki2.dovecot.org/NFS
It mentions a FreeBSD NFS client caching bug. I believe that bug only exists pre-8.x ? It seems that a patch in the PR notes was MFC'd and made it into 8.x at some point. (at least I checked the source in 8.3 and it was there). So I assume that FreeBSD 8.x mitigates the issue? Maybe not?
So our deployment is multi

[LLVMdev] Code Generation Problem llvm 1.9
I sent a long message yesterday describing a problem I thought had to do with the JIT stubs.
After further investigating, the problem seems to be in the code generation.
The following basic block seems to have an error in it's code generation:
__exp.exit: ; preds = %codeRepl258, %__exp_bb_bb.exit
phi double [ 1.000000e+00, %codeRepl258 ], [ %.reload.reload.i,

Two departments on two different locations
Hi there,
like topic sais, I'd like to build a domain-system with two locations.
Our users work one day here the other day in the other place.
The two locations are connected via VPN (10MBit).
To have one datastore in sync on both locations I was thinking about
something like a distributed filesystem (e.g. ceph). Why?
I hope to be able to setup the cluster between the two locations with a

NFS vs Replication
Thank you all for replies!!!
Some missing infos...
- As load balancer I'm using a pair of keepalived with simple setup and
not the DNS
- Load balancer algorithm is "Weighted Least-Connection"
- About 20 domains and 3000 email
- I'm monitoring my backend servers with poolmon
- The backend servers are virtual machine (vmware) with datastore on
"all flash" storage
