Mounting LVM contained ntfs systems.
Using CentOS 5.4 Xen Virtualization "stock install"
Added rpmforge NTFS extension for mount command.
Scenario: Have mirror dd'd off to "backup" unmounted LV contained
Windows machine. Within the LVM volume are two NTFS partitions formatted
by Win2k8.
Issue: How can I mount this? I need to verify file existence and run
batch of file compare checks.

HowTo copy a Logical Volume to another LV
hello all,
Hoping for some help on copying Logical Volumes.
I would like to copy an existing LV to a newly formed LV.
I don't want to do a snapshot of an existing LV.
Only way I've seen is to mount the to LV and:
mount /dev/vg00/lv00 /mnt/orig
mount /dev/vg00/lv01 /mnt/copy
cd /mnt/orig
tar cf - ./ |(cd /mnt/copy; tar xf - )
Is there a LV tool to do this?
Or an option used with

LVM - pvmove and multiple servers
Hi All.
Looking for some guidance/experience with LVM and pvmove.
I have a LUN/PV being presented from a iscsi SAN. The LUN/PV is presented
to 5 servers as a shared VG they all have LV's they use for data, they are
all connected via iSCSI.
As the SAN I am using is being replaced I need to move onto a new unit.
My migration strategy at this time is to
1. Present a new LUN from the new SAN

Safely Remove Disk on LVM
Dear All,
I plan to replace an error disk that is part of an LV. from LVM how-to
it could be done with using pvmove to move all PE from old disk to new
disk. But the howto also said that pvmove is slow. Anyone has
experience using pvmove on 2TB disk?
Is it possible to make all PE on the old disk empty so I don't have to
do pvmove (assuming that I can make a free space >= 2TB). Thank you in

Looking for a life-save LVM Guru
Dear All,
I am in desperate need for LVM data rescue for my server.
I have an VG call vg_hosting consisting of 4 PVs each contained in a
separate hard drive (/dev/sda1, /dev/sdb1, /dev/sdc1, and /dev/sdd1).
And this LV: lv_home was created to use all the space of the 4 PVs.
Right now, the third hard drive is damaged; and therefore the third PV
(/dev/sdc1) cannot be accessed anymore. I would like

pvmove speed
Are there any ways to improve/manage the speed of pvmove? Man doesn't show any documented switches for priority scheduling.
Iostat shows the system way underutilized even though the lv whose pe's are being migrated is continuously being written (slowly) to.
Thanks!

LVM change disk
Dear all,
I have a 4,1TB Logical volume consist of four disks with size of 2TB,
1TB, 1TB, and 500GB. The LV currently full. I plan to change the 1Tb
disks and 500Gb disks. I plan to remove one 1TB disk or the 500GB so
that I can replace it with 2TB disk. most LVM tutorial ask to use
pvmove to move phisical extent to the new disk. The problem is that I
have no SATA port left so that I can't

rd.lvm.lv on CentOS Stream 9 (first-boot failure)
I've install a CentOS Stream 9 system from a kickstart file that
specified (among other things) several logical volumes:
logvol / --fstype="ext4" --size=10240 --name=lv_root --vgname=VolGroup
logvol /var --fstype="ext4" --size=4096 --name=lv_var --vgname=VolGroup
logvol swap --fstype="swap" --size=2048 --name=lv_swap --vgname=VolGroup
When that system rebooted,

How to upgrade hard drive in a single drive (with LVM2) computer
This one has me stumped and I'm sure I must be missing something
trivial. What is is eludes me.
I have a 20G drive that will be replaced with a 160G drive. The /boot
partition is just a standard type 83, and the swap is an 82. The system
root partition is in a LV, as is the /home partition.
I've upgraded hard drives dozens of times without incident, but never
ona system with LVM.

Questions about software RAID, LVM.
I am planning to increase the disk space on my desktop system. It is
running CentOS 5.9 w/XEN. I have two 160Gig 2.5" laptop (2.5") SATA drives

Disk /dev/sda: 160.0 GB, 160041885696 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 19457 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

As far as I can tell, this is because in the dracut boot process, the
device backing VolGroup is activated, but the device backing BackupGroup
is not.? As a
