Outbound connections not using primary eth0 IP
Hello: I have a machine running CentOS 5.2 I added two IP addresses to eth0 by copying /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 to /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0:0 /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0:1 and changing the relevant IP info. I am now seeing outbound connections failing at my firewall from services like NTP, etc. since they are now using a source address from one

Window Server 2003 will not run as paravirtualized?
Hello: According to the Red Hat Virtualization Guide, Windows Server 2003 32-bit will only run as a fully virtualized guest on an AMD64 system. I thought I have seen a lot of discussion about running paravirtualized Windows on CentOS. Is that a bad idea? Starting libvirtd cuts off host access to external network
I've spent some hours on this without success - any help greatly appreciated. I've just done a new RHEL6 setup, with a KVM guest (first time). The basic installation works fine until I start libvirtd; at this point, the host machine loses access to the external network: step 1: ping from host to network works; external machine on network can ping both eth0 and br1 on the host step

Need info on vnet mapping to guests
Hello: I have a host running two KVM guests. The guests use br0 and each has a static IP address. I am trying to figure out if there is a way to use snmpd on the host to measure the traffic usage of the guests. I do not want to require anything running on the guests since I do not control them. Looking at netstat -in on the host, I see this info: Kernel Interface table Iface MTU Met

Recommendation for PCI-e SATA RAID 5 card?
Hello: I am looking for a recommendation for a PCI-e RAID card for my server. The server has a PCI-e x16 low profile slot so the card has to be at most 6.6 inches long x 2.536 inches high. I would like to use RAID 5 with 3 drives so I have to have those capabilities. It has to be CentOS 5.4 compatible (Of course!). I took a look at the offerings from 3Ware, but their cards are too long. If

Looking for recommendations for blocking hacking attempts
Hello: I have been looking into projects that will automatically restrict hacking attempts on my servers running CentOS 5. I think the two top contenders are: DenyHosts - http://denyhosts.sourceforge.net Fail2ban - http://www.fail2ban.org >From what I see, DenyHosts only blocks based on failed SSH attempts whereas Fail2ban blocks failed attempts for other access as well. The main benefit

Centos6.4 routing problem
dear All, I'm facing this routing problem, the setup is actualy part of ltsp, but I think this problem is Centos-specific. The server is a Dell Poweredge R210. The install is standard 6.4, updated. I have one nic facing the public internet: vi /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-em1 DEVICE=em1 BOOTPROTO=none HWADDR=d4:ae:52:c1:28:2b NM_CONTROLLED=no ONBOOT=yes TYPE=Ethernet

Help with Network configuration files
Hello, I?m trying to configure a CentOS 7 server to act as a host for a bunch of virtual servers (KVM). I have an 802.3ad bonded Ethernet connected to the server with a bunch of tagged VLANs. I want to be able to build a bridge interface on the server for each VLAN and then attach that to the bond interface and the virtual clients. I also want to attach a host interface to one of the VLANs

A bridge problem
We just went to replace the bridge/firewall services one one server with the same on another. It's pretty simple, and I literally cloned (w/ rsync) a third server that does this onto the one that will be the new one. Then copied the /etc/sysconfig/iptables from the one being replaced, and brought it up this morning. Nope. We had to put everything back the way it was. The new one sees the two

Routing setup questions
I am experimenting with routing tables to obtain a little understanding of how things work. I have a kvm hypervisor host (KVM1) with two physical Ethernet nics configured as bridges (br0 and br1). KVM1 br0 is configured with a public ipv4 address [x.y.z.42/24] and br1 is configured with a private ipv4 address [192.168.216.42/24]. A second kvm hypervisor, KVM2, is similarly configured albeit with

Is AMD rev F the same thing as socket F?
Hello: I am looking at the RHEL 5.4 virtualization guide. According to Chapter 17, if I want to use KVM on my machine, I need to check if it has the constant Time Stamp Counter by running this: cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep constant_tsc When I do that on the server (Currently running CentOS 5.3), I do not get any output. According to the output, that means my system does not have the counter. It

Using Puppet to swap eth0 and eth1
I''ve been using Puppet now for a month or so and I''ve come to a problem that may warrant an additional Puppet metaparameter. I''m advocating the addition of a metaparameter called "preaction" (or something like that), which will perform some arbitrary action before the resource is modified. There may be a way to do this within Puppet already (with some

VNC not connecting
Hello all: I am trying to install CentOS 5.4 as a KVM guest. The host is running CentOS 5.4 and does not have X installed. I used ssh to connect to the host and ran this command (I formatted it for readability, it is all on one line): virt-install -n jamm12e -r 1024 --vcpus=1 --check-cpu --os-type=linux --os-variant=rhel5 --hvm --accelerate --cdrom=/tmp/CentOS-5.4-x86_64-netinstall.iso

True bond howto for Centos 6
Hi all, Read many posts on the subject. Using 802.3ad. Few problems; Cannot ping some hosts on the network, they are all up. Cannot resolve via DNS which is one of the hosts that I cannot ping, internal nor external DNS hosts. Unplugging the NICS and plugging them back in will then not allow pining if the default d=gateway. When cold booting it somewhat works, some hosts are pingable while
