HowTo: Grub Installation for CentOS 5 and 6
Hello: I've completed the HowTo "Grub Installation for CentOS 5 and 6", currently at http://wiki.centos.org/YvesBellefeuille/Grub_Installation I'd like to suggest that an appropriate location would be in the HowTos, section 17, Misc. (It doesn't seem to fit neatly anywhere else.) I couldn't figure out how to do the two internal links at the very bottom, so please

Grub Installation for CentOS 5 and 6
Hello: I've written information on installing Grub: http://wiki.centos.org/YvesBellefeuille/Grub_Installation I wrote this in response to requests that I update the Hard Disk Upgrade Mini How-To I wrote a zillion years ago to add information about Grub: http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos/2011-August/115661.html http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos/2011-August/115617.html The

New Grub Installation How-To
Hello: I've written a Grub Installation How-To, and I'd like to post at least a draft version. The information presently at http://wiki.centos.org/TipsAndTricks/InstallFromGRUB is somewhat related, but my How-To is much more detailed. The information at "Tips and Tricks: Installation Tips" is most closely related to what I prepared, so I suggest that a new page entitled

Grub Installation for CentOS 5 and 6 HowTo
Hello: As I mentioned, I consider the Grub Installation for CentOS 5 and 6 HowTo to be ready. It's now at http://wiki.centos.org/YvesBellefeuille/Grub_Installation ; I'd like to suggest that an appropriate location would be in the HowTos, section 17, Misc. Skype on CentOS 6
Hi: I've finished the changes about installing Skype on CentOS 6. Thanks. (Except that I still think that this information should be moved in the list of HowTos from section 17, "Misc.", to section 18, "Non CentOS Applications".) xmlrpc-c-client from CR repo requires curl >= 7.15.5-9.el5_7.4
The package xmlrpc-c-client-1.16.24-1206.1840.el5_7.4.i386 from the CR repository requires curl >= 7.15.5-9.el5_7.4, which isn't available. The most recent version of curl I see is 7.15.5-9.el5_6.3, also in the CR repository. The CentOS "contrib" repository
According to the Wiki, the CentOS contrib repository "contains packages contributed by CentOS users which do not overlap with any of the core distribution packages". The repository seems to be empty. Are contributions actually welcome? Are there any policies about proposing packages? Thanks, -- Yves Bellefeuille <yan at storm.ca> "La Esperanta Civito ne rifuzas anticipe

Skype's no-redistribution policy
Hello: Skype for Linux version 4 has recently been released. An RPM package has been made, and it's mentioned in the Wiki: http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Skype#head- a08dbc518378653842007a2eec37bc32e13c0bd0 However, Microsoft claims to prohibit redistribution of Skype (http://www.skype.com/intl/en-us/legal/terms/tou/ , subsection 4.2). My feeling is that the Wiki shouldn't mention

Format for giving examples of commands
Hello, Is there a standard format for quoting examples of commands to be entered by the user? I've given the following example commands: cd /tmp wget http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-linux-beta-static cd /opt tar xjvf /tmp/skype_static-4.0.0.7.tar.bz2 rm /tmp/skype_static-4.0.0.7.tar.bz2 ln -s skype_staticQT-4.0.0.7 skype Someone changed them to add prompts: [root at host]# cd /tmp [root

Correction to HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey
There's a mistake in HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey , so I'd like to ask that someone fix it, or that I be given editing rights. The mistake is that in the section on CentOS 6, step 8, the correct command is "syslinux /dev/sdb1" (only). Also, although this isn't a mistake, I'd like to suggest mentioning in step 1 that the reason why part of the USB key has to be formatted

Proposed change to HowTos/Skype
In the section for CentOS-5, it would be nice if the following alternative method for running Skype on CentOS-5 were presented: You can download a statically linked version of Skype which will work in CentOS-5 from http://download.skype.com/linux/skype_static-2.1.047.tar.bz2 I think it's a little bit silly that the first recommendation for running skype on CentOS-5 is to install a new

Firebug 1.2.0b4 for FF3
The current beta version of Firebug doesn't appear to install on Firefox 3 on CentOS 5.2, apparently because it's reporting itself as 3.0b5 rather 3.0. I tweaked the minVersion requirement in the xpi to 3.0b5 and it seems to be working fine for me now. In case anyone else is interested in testing it, my tweaked version is available here:

OpenOffice 2.0 rpms
Was just wondering if anyone knows of any third-party RPMs for Open Office 2.0 for CentOS 4? Haven't come up with anything via yum or rpm.pbone.net yet, and would prefer not to go the openoffice.org binary installer route if possible. CentOS 5.4 and BitTorrent
If I remember correctly, when version 5.3 was released, about 95% was made available by BitTorrent before the official release date, so that the entire file would be available as soon as possible after the release. Could the same be done this time? -- Yves Bellefeuille <yan at storm.ca> "Yves Bellefeuille: Eterna malvenkanto en UEA" -- Heroldo Komunikas, n-ro 389

Is there any decision about the donation programme? The Web page still says: "If you are looking to make a cash dontation to the CentOS Project, please check back here after August 15th, 2009." nullmailer recommendations
Just wondering what people tend to use for nullmailers on their centos boxes (i.e. a minimal outgoing-only MTA)? I guess the obvious solution is a minimal postfix config, but that seems reasonably heavyweight and easy to misconfigure - is there anything lighter floating around the centos universe?
